Christian McCaffery blows of Stanford bowl game

There are a lot of guys in sports who deserve criticism. Christian McCaffery is not one of them. He's a great kid.

Well good. Larger point is sports are largely unimporthem unless you're getting paid to coach or play them, so Im not sure why anyone gets so worked up about them.

I'm pretty sure that CFB is important to a lot of people and that is precisely why people get paid to play and coach it. If it was largely unimportant to people then no one would even know who Christian McCaffrey is. If there were no zealous fans CFB would go the way of professional croquet and badminton.

I'll bet you didn't know this but I was once considered the Joe Namath of Jarts.

As a parent yourself, you should be familiar with the concept of seperating the behavior from the whole person.

I'm sure he's a lovely kid who just happened to strike a nerve with his me-first attitude on this particular decision.

The way I look at it, everyone has an opinion and each opinion is valid. I think the main purpose of argument is to change the minds of those who's opinion you disagree with. No one is going to change their minds on this issue, so it isn't worth arguing about.

Ahem.

If memory serves, after your ill fated defense of Dan Hawkins, you eventually came around.

**** you!!

Every game CM played at Stanford was an opportunity to show his skills and get more money from the NFL. Same applies to the bowl game. A great bowl performance could have elevated his stock, a poor performance might lower it. Last minute impressions can make a difference (anyone remember Willie Smith from Missouri basketball?) Of course his 4 years speak for themself (theirself? theirselves?) so he's in good shape for the draft regardless.

The real issue is that CM has been working on his nfl draft resume since he was deliberating which college to join. Stanford was a very very willing participant and no doubt profited $tremendou$ly$ from his presence on the team. The only losers are the naive fans who thought it was all about team and the old college try.

Will teams be drug tested for this bowl and by opting out, will players not be tested?

It's widely whispered that these "high priced trainers" who specialize in training the kids for the combine, have some lotions and potions that may not pass muster. Getting an early start on this is critical, so that you can shut it down early enough, before the combine tests for such things.

they played most of hte year without McCaffery anyway...and the backup RB has been performing real solid.
Let the young dude play and get his recognition, I guess.

So you're implying Christian McCaffery was/is using PED's?

No, I'm implying it's pervasive in the pro game and that guys training for the combine are getting ready for the pro game, with huge $'s at stake over 3+ years. By pervasive, I mean widespread, not the exception. If that's not your worldview, I think your head is in the sand. My view is based on personal experience as well as observation.

Think about some of the gains made from late November until the combine (late February) that you've seen. There's a window to gain, followed by a window to detox before testing begins again.

These so called "training facilities" that specialize in preparing guys for the combine, have trained specialist on staff that will test many aspects of the athlete and identify the areas to focus on. They have every tool in their toolkit.

Not implying that any one prospect or that every prospect will choose to use every tool at his disposal. But to pretend that it's not a popular option is putting one's head in the sand.

Talked with my nephew who is a friend and grew up playing all of his youth sports with Christian. "Complete bitch move."

The Redskins sat RG3 for an entire season because an injury would've guaranteed another year and cost them nearly 20m. The Bills are sitting Taylor in W17 because an injury would guarantee additional years and almost 30m for him. Why is it a smart business decision when the franchise makes such a move and a bitch move or god knows what when a player makes it?

Ah, so is that supposed to prevent him from having an opinion? Reeks of "if you didn't play, you can't criticise. "
Clearly you pointed out the connection as if that somehow made his view on the decision more relevant. I'm just pointing out that it's easy to call it a "bitch move" when it's not your health or your money involved.

Wasn't my intention. It was meant more as an observation.
