Coach Prime's Current Health

My guess has always been he had cancer. Scary **** - I hope whatever he has is fully treatable. The good news is that the oncologists at Anschutz are some of the best in the country, so Prime is in great hands.
Yeah my dad was diagnosed last year and had his prostate removed this year. It all depends on the grade but the prognosis can be quite favorable

Edit: others speculating its bladder cancer. Anyways we’ll find out soon

Prime has been here long enough for us to know that he is the one who is going to control the message and that trying to read things into situations before he actually addresses them is likely to result in different outcomes.

For him to talk about the foot means he is thinking about the foot. Very possible that his health situation is something completely different but that the foot, and the potential of further surgery on it up to and including amputation is still there.

Bigger thing I take from the Uncle Neely vid is that Prime still sees Colorado as his mission, as his calling. He never needed to go into coaching in the first place, he could have stayed in the media making millions of dollars without the stress and commitment that coaching requires but he sees himself in the role of helping these young people become men, of helping others to find true success in the world, not just as athletes but as people.

In that context I don't see him having any interest in going to the NFL level, also don't see him retiring from CU anytime soon unless he absolutely has to for health reasons.

Multiple explanations here for having the medical staff at the news conference make sense. It may be that he just wants to shut speculation about his health and keep it from being a distraction this season. Best way to do that is to have the experts on it present to provide the exact situation he is facing and what it looks like for the future.

At the same time he may want to publicly thank them and recognize them. Another characteristic of Prime is that while he doesn't shy away from accepting credit for his accomplishments he also wants to make sure that others get their recognition as well. We have seen him frequently direct praise towards support staff that normally would never be acknowledged in most programs.
