The old man was an ass back in his St. Anthony's days too. Bullying the refs always, playing up his long time big fish in a small pond thing. The sons learned from the old man. At least Bobby seems to restrain himself. I've actually grown to pull for him over time. It's not easy for a Jersey kid to travel all the way to Tempe and build something, or at least try. He's had multiple chances to coach smaller programs in the Northeast. He deserves respect for that, in my view.
Danny, on the other hand, seems like he's one bad call away from an ugly encounter with law enforcement.

Gary Williams...
5) You don't have to be like him or Bobby Knight to have success. Working the refs is one thing; being a damaged, deranged jackass is another entirely.
What does it say about a man that, when first hearing his name, I think of "Sweat, Gary, sweat."Gary Williams

Generically, I don't disagree here. But would you agree that his latest ref run in at a minimum makes him look like a pompous asshole?Bobby is and always has been a whiner and brat.
Danny is and always has been a take-no-sh!t, in-your-face tough guy.
I've always liked Danny. He's like the poster boy for New Jersey attitude.
I used to compare him to Bobby Knight. Williams screamed more and lacked the championships. What does it say about a man that, when first hearing his name, I think of "Sweat, Gary, sweat."
He said it himself in his presser. He looks like an asshole. I would even say it's not perception but reality - his way of being a competitor is to be an asshole. I respect it and like him for being an authentic asshole who is completely self aware and backs it up.Generically, I don't disagree here. But would you agree that his latest ref run in at a minimum makes him look like a pompous asshole?
We can't embed Bluesky yet, so you'll have to click the link to see the video of Jerome Lane getting a pass from Sean Miller(?!) and busting a backboard. I remember watching that game live. My brother and I lost our minds. Then Jerome came to the Nugs and did squat. But he was a hell of a college player.

Bobby Hurley is everything Tad Boyle isn't. As a coach, player developer, and team developer, Tad runs circles around Bobby. But when it comes to generating attention for the program and pulling talent, Bobby's on a much higher level than Tad. I would laugh at a trade, but Tad's got to figure out how to get better at the things Bobby excels at - even if that means getting the program infrastructure to cover his shortcomings.Part I:
