I wonder if the NIL world in tandem with the schools paying players and seemingly more coaches choosing to leave for the NFL, I wonder if this will somewhat reset the market a bit for the coaches that are not considered “elite”

Even though the money coming in to the power conferences continues to increase a reset is inevitable.

Up until recently if a program wanted to spend money on winning (legally) they could put it into facilities or put it into coaching. Now with NIL and expanded rosters a big chunk of the money is going to be funnelled into NIL payments and even with limits imposed on what the schools can pay they will redirect money that in the past would have been donated to the programs directly to players through outside organizations. Think much more of the Phil Long Ford advertising with Travis and multiple other players.

NCAA can't restrict payments directly to players and the bigger programs will simply coordinate increasing amounts of money going to the players instead of into donations.

The result will be less focus on giant facility projects and less money for coaches who haven't proven their value yet. The coaches who are in playoff games will still get paid but going 6-6 to 8-4 each year isn't going to get you the big payday.

Stanford does something similar with naming from donors I believe, "Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics"

Former 5-star Texas, Washington WR Johntay Cook arrested in Desoto, Texas on marijuana possession charges.

A little over a week after being arrested on multiple charges in the state of Texas, Johntay Cook has run into trouble with the law again. According to arrest records in Grayson County, Texas, the former Texas and Washington wide receiver has been booked for marijuana possession of less than two ounces.

Not really new, but sounds official that B1G and SEC have full control over the next CFP format with "input" from other conferences. Likely two automatic bids for the Big 12 and ACC. The real news is that something is going to have to change when it comes to Conference Championship Games that are likely going to be mostly meaningless, outside of the G5.
Yahoo — According to most who have viewed the memorandum of understanding from last spring, the SEC and Big Ten hold sole discretion on the future CFP format starting in 2026, the beginning of the CFP’s new six-year television agreement with ESPN that runs through the 2031 playoff.

The agreement grants the leagues decision-making powers over the format but directs them to have “meaningful consultation” and collect “input” from the other conferences before making their decision.

Leaders in each conference have spent the last several weeks evolving a format idea — multiple automatic qualifiers per league — into a more realistic proposal. The 14- or 16-team model would grant four automatic qualifiers each to the SEC and Big Ten; two each to the ACC and Big 12; and one to the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. It includes one or three at-large spots, one of those intended for Notre Dame if it finishes ranked inside the top 14 — a guarantee specifically designated for the Irish that is part of the CFP memorandum.

Officials describe the 14-team format as a 4-4-2-2-1+1 model in which the top two seeds receive first-round byes. There would be no byes in a 16-team structure. In either, the CFP selection committee’s role is greatly diminished. The committee, its future — as the memorandum stipulates — also controlled by the SEC and Big Ten, would presumably seed 1 through 14 or 16 based directly on its top-25 rankings.

The $EC needs to cement power now before the sporting world comes to the realization that NIL is leaving them behind.

I knew there was no way they would stop at 12 teams as long as they have more than the P2 involved, those two want more seats at the table and a bigger share of the payout.

How long until we see a 6-6 or 7-5 team from one of those two confernces in the playoff?

Nothing would have changed for the B1G this year as they already sent their top 4. The SEC would have added Alabama to get their 4.

Big 12 would have added either BYU or Iowa State. The ACC already had 2 in, Notre Dame made it and Boise made it, so the new format of 14 would have just added Alabama and another Big 12 program.

A 16 team format would add two more at large bids which would have been Ole Miss and Miami based on this years rankings.

I’m fine with either setup, tbh. A 14 team playoff would have top two seeds get byes while there’d be no byes in 16 team format. No idea how they would deal with CCGs though.

Behind? No it’s just leveling out. In no world would the SEC fall behind in donor spending/NIL funding

I think 2 (or more) guaranteed births keep CCG relevance especially if a buy is in play. Probably need to lock the top 14 before CCG week with only seeding on play and a CCG participant can’t drop below a non-participant after the games.
