Conference Championship Games 12/6-12/7

Quick check on Stubhub: SEC CCG ~80 USD, B1G CCG ~30 USD excl fees
One week between end of season and CCG hurts everyone. Need another week for travel arrangements. Most of those tickets were early buy and the dump when your team is not going

The problem with the expanded playoff is that two of the biggest games of the season , the B1G and SEC CCG, where usually everything is at stake are now largely pointless as both are in either way.
For all the stupid things Danny Kanell says, he got one thing right.

Paraphrasing here, every team has to win 4 post season games to win the Natty. The conference finalists basically get an extra bite at the apple.

It's only going to take one first round upset for everyone to realize that getting a bye has massive value.

UGA knew they were playing today 2 weeks ago and the one week turnaround wasn't an issue in the past. I think it shows that a) the game isn't important in the grand scheme of things as unlike previous seasons both teams know they'll be in the playoff and b) people will prioritise those games, especially at a time of the year when funds might be a little limited. UGA being there for the fourth year in a row probably also doesn't help as the novelty has worn off and people who might usually go decided to stay home as a result.

But at the same time you aren't going to risk anything if you know you have another game in either 2 or 3 weeks. I think you would rather take your chance with your star player in 2 weeks than without him in 3.

The point is that if you're in the playoff you have a chance and that everyone is equal once we get there.

Is said star player more likely to get injured in a CCG than in a first round game?

Everyone is equal once you get to the quarterfinals

Joy is approximately halfway to being 35 years old.

If UGA is going to win, it's going to be because their defensive front was dominant. Texas has a huge advantage on the edges.

If he's banged up with a muscle issue I think those 2 weeks might well make a big difference, yes.

Look, I am not saying anyone is gonna half ass this, but I think they will err on the side of caution when in doubt.

I think that announced 55k attendance is very generous

I am curious how that crowd would have looked for a game between say TCU and Okie State

I wonder if Jerry World is a viable venue still with OU and Texas gone. What would be the possible alternatives? NRG Stadium? Glendale?

Lol, Timothy Chalamet was the only picker on Gameday to take Ohio and they won in a blowout.
How many of the Gameday host do you think have even watched a MAC game start to finish this year. It may be that the only MAC football they have seen is parts of early season money games against B1G teams.

They aren't paid for what they know, they are paid to say things that attract viewers, MAC football isn't exactly a high ratings subject.

I see no reason why Vegas couldn’t be considered. They held media days there. Yes it’s west of the entire conference but it’s a great destination, close/short flight for almost every member except for Cincy, WVU, and UCF.

GlobeLife in Arlington has hosted a college football game, but 40k might be too small.

St Louis' Dome at America Center could be an option.

They are paid to be entertaining first and foremost.

65k capacity works very well, too. Jerry World is probably just too big at 90k.

STL looks like a little dated IMO and do you really want to have your showcase game at a baseball stadium? I always felt that's a little gimmicky plus the different sightlins etc will render some boxes and lounges useless and will hurt your bottom line immensely.

SIAP but the get in price at kickoff for the Big 12 championship was $8. 3 weeks ago it was $170. Less than ideal.
The Big 12 has a fanbase and brand problem. You can’t just blatantly cater to CU and we certainly had our chances, but the fact that the conferences only good brand tied for first but missed out on the CCG and potentially playoff because of a third or fourth tier tiebreaker is absurd
