@Darth Snow has a good point, these depth charts are based of the previous week. They may update them a little for injuries, or truly new starters (Cash coming in for Hank).
I put little stock into the weekly depth chart: many positions are obvious and it seems that Prime & Co, like to put some BS/Fliers out there too. However, they can be useful for trends. Timmons being up there could be just a pairing big WRs with the others, or giving TT more confidence/rewarding him if he is showing out in practice. With Horn out, that #4WR position is in flux.
That depth chart is NOT a knock on Drelon nor a comparison of Drelon/Timmons, as Drelon gets on the field and produces in so many different ways. In fact, Drelon has a great chance to start another game. Although, we list 4 receiver groups CU is not running nearly as many 4WR sets, and Drelon (swiss-army knife) is useful for the underneath, short passes with YAC, jet sweeps or bubble screens; which after Horn's injury seems to be how they are running things. Drelon can catch downfield as well. Also, they move guys around within/across the position groups throughout the game, which they have done this with the Oline and Dlines too. I think guys are still splitting time at the G position. Clearly, our top 4 WRs are:
1. Hunter
2/3 Shepphard/Wester (different players, Shep is coming on, Wester has been great most all the season).
4. Drelon
Jimmy Horn Jr. jumps back in when healthy. IMO, these guys get the lion's share of WR snaps.
Timmons can be up there, however he has to block and make some meaningful catches to garner a ton of snaps. That said, having him play snaps can be beneficial if he plays hard wearing opposing DBs going 1on1 on the outside with his size and speed without even getting a target--i.e. run them to death. Drelon too can run guys to death even without being targeted, plus the opposing O has to know where he is at all times--too dynamic.
If we are short WR#s for some reason, I can see Ogovughe, Waseem, Kam Michel, or Cordale Russell (if healthy) possibly getting some snaps too, unless that burns a RS. Some are big guys. Nobody has film on them, and we seem to desire a finding a new breakout player each game. Same with Timmons, I do not think that there is a ton of CU film out there on him either, and the opposing team is wasting time if they focus on his pre-transfer film given CU has so many other weapons that they need to focus on.
Great to see Welsh on the chart. I want to see more of him, and Smalls get into the end zone this week.
CU has an embarrassment of riches at Defensive End not seen since that days of MAC. Dayon Hayes is listed at #3 DE, but I'm not sure that he back/healthy? They do not even have Wiggens listed and Davis-Swain (he may have 2 more games left from offical roster), where he might be still eligible for a RS. I have not kept up with the team's RS situation. Those guys are no sloughes. Same with for the DL group with DT Cokes (who I believe will be back this week or next) for the B12 it is an embarrassment of riches at the DT position too. Also, is Taurean Carter done? I thought I read this somewhere, but he is still listed on the roster. Another big body with experience, and reading his BIO, I'm blown away his best PFF game came against Georgia, might have been in 2021.
Flight leaving for KC at 3pm. Go Buffs!!
