CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

I am still holding out hope that the money is there to stay in the Pac with expansion to 12 through SDSU and SMU to give us the SoCal and DFW presence we seriously benefit from for attracting students and donations.

It would be a strong conference with significant potential in all sports for CU.

Which conference is easier to get into the playoff from? That P12 or the B12? If the money is even comparable, that needs to be the deciding factor. The next 5 years need to be nothing but showing how valuable we can be to the B1G.

Equivalent. Big 12 probably better 1 through 12 right now with that hypothetical Pac-12 having the tougher path at the top.

Wash, rinse, repeat. You guys have been on the "I don't see it lasting more than two weeks" bandwagon for a dozen or so two-week periods.

True but SDSU needs to inform the MWC within two weeks from tomorrow to avoid a steeper exit fee they would incur beginning the next day going forward. SMU has a good amount of cash on hand but they have to deal with the AAC exit stuff (not the ACC mind you).

If CU in fact does announce on the 19th which is a federal holiday, that gives other schools time to make movements such as their respective boards. I did say at least a few weeks ago that June 16th was a date to watch without considering the holiday on the 19th. This can wait until the 29th which is two weeks from now but that is if CU wants to burn bridges with other ADs & schools in parts of this country. CU is squeezing every single drop of hype and buzz from Coach Prime so being the first to move before SDSU seems plausible IF that is what CU wants to do.

I'm ready for this saga to end too. Just because things have quieted down this week doesn't mean the fire is out.

That is where I'm at too but I'm prepared for the outcome that CU goes to the Big 12.

I agree. The matchups in the Pac12 are more compelling to me as a viewer then the ones in the BigXII top to bottom.

As for the P2 part I disagree and dont want to be in a 20 team conference where tOSU and UM dominate the media air time and take turns alternating as conf champ while were one of the speed bumps along their path. Money is ruining the game and youre just encouraging it. At the end there will be a P1 and we will not be in it. Why? Because Northwestern, Indiana, and Vanderbilt dont deserve the money they get by simple association and the TV people will eventually say so And make a UM, tOSU, Alabama, LSU conference to replace the current set up.

Didn't you have a source at the burrito stand saying the Big12 is happening?
Have you got any burrito's in the last week ?

Then go for the money and whomever has the easiest path out of it when we're done with them. Problem solved.
It’s the P12. It would be closer to a toss up but B12 exit fee is constructed in a way where teams aren’t meant to leave (one way door).

I know some believe we could come up with the $80M or negotiate down to $40-50M but I haven’t heard how we could come up with that kind of money. It’s just “we’ll come up with it” but w/o the details.

I think you are reading way too much into that Big 12 exit fee. When a school announces they are leaving, the Big 12 will withhold money and that is something that the P12 would have done if there was one more extra year on the P12 GOR. That is why OU & UT announced the SEC move with a join date four years down the road and that was moved up one year to next year. If the Big 12 withheld $20M from OU & UT the last three years, they just have to pay the remaining $20M over an agreed upon timeframe.

The only way CU would do such a thing is if they are joining the B1G or SEC. That won't happen if the P12 invited the Buffs back in this case. And CU Boulder has a budget of over $2B. Money isn't necessarily much of a problem in this case.

Another strawman that the B12 pushers like to use. If SDSU doesn't inform the MWC before June 30, 2023 then they pay an exit fee for the 2024 season. SDSU can always notify the MWC before June 30, 2024 and play in the P12 in 2025. It isn't all-or-nothing this month.

I keep hearing don’t worry about it. It’s not convincing. OU and UT got a $50M price cut bc of ESPN & SEC. Major details you’re leaving out.

So the CU system is going to cover the exit fee? That is your take? When has the CU system floated the athletic dept $80M?

What about culture? Alumni footprint?

I have not heard anything new or different. However, my confidence in the scoop has taken a hit simply because it would be so out of character for RG to leak and then for things to drag out unless something had changed.

The HC hire, for example, had leaks that he was hiring Bronco. That changed because the big donors who were told rebelled and said to go all in on Prime. Something similar could have happened with Big 12 from donors/BoR/administrators, demanding to at least have a Pac offer to review before making a decision. I don't know. Just speculating.

Or RG leaked the B12 to push the P12 to get it done.

That is if the Big 12 passes on them.

Also their exit fee goes up after this July 1st and that will apply for 2024 too.

I wouldn’t be surprised if RG wants the B12 and is getting overruled. Total speculation on that but if he really wanted Bronco (didn’t know that) then that says a lot about his instincts and what he’s willing to settle for.
