CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

That's not an option they had at the time. Still, BYU is P5 quality in every since, Cincy was a Big East member and has solid football (plus history in basketball), UCF is the largest university in the country and has solid football, and UH was often mentioned on this board as a PAC expansion goal.

I will agree that UCF adds something and maybe BYU. Houston was only in the P12 discussion because it would get that conference into Texas. Houston brings nothing really to the B12. Cincy is a lesser Boise State but is in the Eastern TZ so maybe they bring something there along with decent recruiting ties? They’re all pretty meh and more dilutive

Another 1-3 P12 schools will abandon ship, and although Utah will want to jump, BYU will find a way to block them.

Utah and its unnecessarily arrogant fans will then get to experience the P12/MWC post-Whittingham and the tears of unfathomable sadness will be delicious. Might even stay up til 2am to catch one of their games against SJSU on the CW one night

A big part of me thinks that Commish K had a deal framed around adding SoCal and DFW markets but the decision has to be at least 8-2 on that... and there were at least 3 nay votes between those who didn't want a tougher path (more teams in the way) to making the playoffs if they weren't going to get a B1G invite AND those who couldn't stomach the idea of admitting 2 non-AAU members rated R2 on research intensity who don't even bring any "Conference of Champions" prestige because neither one has ever won a national championship in anything that was D1 and wasn't golf before Jack Nicklaus was even a ranked amateur.

Would seem to jibe with "we're close" a couple months ago and all the weirdness around SDSU sending that letter to the MWC and then needing to walk it back. I think around that same time it came out that SMU had a lead booster step up and say that he'd make up the difference to them on a reduced payout share from the Pac-12 for a number of years.

Please, it all had to do with $. Sdsu and SMU aren’t bringing in the $. I really don’t understand your love affair sdsu. As I’ve said before and will say again they offer nothing.

But are we sure that this isn’t a BYU fan pretending to be a Utah fan? Or maybe it’s a psy-ops where it’s a Utah fan pretending to be a BYU fan pretending to be a Utah fan. It’s all hard to tell.

For as good as Cal and Stanford business schools are, they really didn’t see how bad of a PMF they are.
 
I could be way off base here, but I doubt Prime had any real sway in this move. I’m sure his opinion was asked but this is a move that likely affects CU for the remainder of the decade. The chances of Prime staying here for more than 4 years is relatively low imo so why base a decision off his thoughts on it? But then again, I wouldn’t put it past RG to base his decision entirely on Prime’s opinion because RG is a lil bitch that can’t think for himself.

Hmmmm.....

Back in the day, CU and UT were very much together on Big 12 issues. The formation of the conference, when CU & UT considered joining the Pac-10 instead and were together on Big 12 bylaws (often siding against Nebraska). When CU left for the Pac-12, UT was very tempted to come with us and lead a group of 4 additions.

So, maybe the bright side is that UT will see that CU is back in sync with them if we become a conference killer. That leads to a series of dominos which result in an SEC invite.

Screw you! USC and ucla were conference killers. Cu has only been there 12yrs. How can they kill a conference. Stupid!

I disagree. I think Prime has everything to do with this. Maybe he wasn’t the ultimate decision maker but the schools renewed focus on athletic excellence, which starts and ends with hiring Prime and given him carte blanche of the football program, is the reason this administration suddenly fancies itself a leader among its peers again.

They are absolutely doing this to maximize revenue, recruiting and exposure over the next 6 years in order to position themselves for the jump to a better conference.

The Karl Dorrell mentality from just one year ago would have had the AD sitting with their thumb up their butt, going with the flow of slipping into big time college athletics obscurity
