CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

Just finished reading Oregon 247 board.
**** ! I hate those assholes so much.
They are so confident that they are Big10 bound. If so their football team will fade into obscurity winning no more than 7 to 9 games a year and remains at O football championships.

Lanning seemed awfully comfortable signing that long term deal. I doubt he’d want to sign on for a long term gig if he had any fear they were about to get stuck in football purgatory.

I'll explain it again. It has almost nothing to do with SDSU. It has nothing to do with market or market engagement because if media partners said they are worth a full share, they're worth a full share. If they're not, you wouldn't take them.

My interest in SDSU is for the market exposure and presence in a place that's huge for CU athletics recruiting but is also huge for driving CU applications, alumni & other fan engagement, and donations.
How do people not get this. Fred get your head out of your 🍑

If they beat the Nubs, it would be hard to hate them.

IF somehow the PAC cobbles together a tv deal with Apple, who here is ready to buy a subscription on top of what you might be already spending for the basic Apple cost?
I look at it differently. I'm a bit tired of paying for the big package so I can get ESPN, fox1. Then oh yeah upgrade further b/c I need espnu. oh then the extra sports pack because a game is on fox2. Then now espn+ now too.Same applies with pac12n.
Was fine in the old days when we actually used it for other channels occasionally. I'd love for the buffs to be on one platform. If streaming Id drop linear in a heartbeat.

P12 meeting is at 7 am local time so I am thinking everything lights up like it’s Vegas around 9 am MT. Sleep tight tonight.

You don’t get it! They will watch something else or play some stupid vidio game. They
won’t pay for a college football game to save their lives unless it’s their team and if it’s on in the back ground at their party. The ( networks or who ever). are losing a whole generation. The nfl is very close and cb is right there. I’m not paying extra to watch certain games that I don’t give a rats ass about but will watch on a casual basis. I don’t know when the last time I watched a championship game? I think it was tx vs sc. Mainly because it was always Ala. vs somebody

Weren’t you calling someone a bad fan for not paying to watch CU earlier in this thread?

Other than you, i don’t think a single person has said they wouldn’t pay to watch CU

Wasn’t there some updated numbers suggesting the overpayment was actually closer to $70m before? Can’t remember where I saw that. Also, they are desperate at this point and have to present something to the rest of the league, so if $20m is the best offer they have, they have to present it.

Not sure what Bob is trying to prove here.

I’m sorry you can’t recall or read proficiently. I Never said that Go back and and look. I don’t care what anyone does w their $. I just wouldn’t pay for it as I am already paying a sh***load as it is just trying to appease a household. I’d watch anything I could and if not listen on the radio. good for the rest of you. I’m glad you all have that extra income.

$6.99 per month is the straw that broke Fred 2’s wallet.

You know, when I read this I think, for at least a few of the top schools, the Apple streaming actually would be very attractive to reach those audiences and better than the dying linear. Particularly if you are a President and looking at athletics as the front porch to future and recent students, this is way better. And increasingly for new graduates that you want to keep in the fold as future donors, they are more likely to have an apple subscription than a monster cable subscription.
Where it breaks down is visibility with Heisman voters and rankings voters, etc.
Not saying this isn't without huge risks and downsides, but I could see it being pretty appealing to a certain crowd and thinking about demographics.

It's obviously the future, but it makes no sense for conferences to rush to get there. Might as well suck the cable teat dry first (B12 metaphor, MFers). Yes, cable is dying and ESPN won't be cashing hundreds of millions of dollars in subscriber fees much longer--but while they are it makes sense for content sellers to get a part of that action. I think that streamers, because they don't need the type of network reach the networks have, will be more competitive with each other when buying content. This doesn't mean they will pay more, just that there will be more bidders for content. There are just fewer barriers to entry vs. cable. So whenever streaming becomes the preferred destination, it will be relatively simple for a conference to sign a deal.

Dude, it's not gonna be PPV. Your kids will pay for streaming services like everyone else. Those services will carry CFB games. Guys who run the sports networks are not giving up their business model of making non-sports fans pay for sports, they are just moving to the internet.

I'm sorry. You are correct. You never said that. You just said you'd rather pay to watch neb/Iowa rather than some CU games:

Based on what? You still don’t get that their market value is still sh** outside of eugene, salt lake, Seattle and co. The rest of the country could care less as well as the rest of the pac. They think the pac is a joke and you can’t disagree based on the last 10-12yrs. Cu is only relevant as long as prime is here. i hope it’s longer but who knows. The pac is a wasteland when it comes to college football nationally. So what kind of media deal are you really expecting people outside of the footprint to pay to watch those games. Would you pay to watch az/Stan or lsu/tamu even neb/Iowa? Personally I’d pay for the latter.

Where it breaks down is with the casual fan. I ain’t paying d*** for most games I don’t care about and/or for some games I do care about including cu. They will still hit me with commercials and crap. Right now I can sit back and enjoy a game on Saturday afternoon and just turn on a game and relax. if I have to pay for steaming I’ll do a movie instead. I’m old but the younger generation will not put up with this. My kids won’t

It's one thing to have games on streaming for a subscription.

But it's another to have to have the subscription and then shell out another chuck of change for a special package like MLS. It's not quite PPV but kind of feels like it.
