CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

Given that Disney seems to potentially be positioning ESPN to be sold, we may still end up on Apple streaming by the end of this deal.
There are also people saying Disney will buy Apple.
And that Apple will buy Disney.

Round up from the message boards:

Arizona gone
ASU and Utah worried that they will be left out of fourth and final slot.
Ducks and Dawgs hate the Apple deal, but think B1G invite is around the corner
Stanford and Cal have no fans
OSU and WSU panic
So who is the third? CU is one, AZ two, and ASU Utah worried they will be left out. I don't get who is the third B12 spot.

Because I said so. Lol

In fact, I would argue that being in that position might be a detriment to the P12. I look at this partnership as very much a "proof of concept" pilot for Apple. They get a (semi) cheap way to try out a new product (live college sports) in a way that probably is a viable test to whether it would work for larger brands (i.e. B1G, SEC). If they prove the concept, they might get one of the larger conferences to jump in the next round. Where does that leave the P12?

Wait- is this total attendance or average? Because there are almost 40 games in an MLS season, most of which are played in smaller venues, vs 12 for a college football team.
Average attendance per game

Flugar doing a live show now.
Arizona all but gone.
ASU hasn't exactly been warm to BIG12,
however AZ wants them so could be a package deal but both won't declare at same time.
Some reports say Utah has been distant to BIG12, however that's incorrect as they have been having open communications.
They would be #16 addition after ASU.

There was an interview with Peter Collins on Warchant (FSU) tonight that apparently was shocking. Sounds like Florida St is going to challenge the ACC GOR and might be headed out.

Washington guy trying to spin it. Problem with the streaming number is that it includes subscriptions like Netflix and also doesn't limit it to the streaming app subscribers who pay for something with a sports package (including if it's an upgraded plan like on Sling).

Soccer is the most watched sport globally. Some college conference being on AppleTV brings football and universities into millions of new living rooms globally will have some impact.

The MLS being on in the US during Europes off season is probably getting watched over there. Apple is believed to have helped bring Messi to the MLS. If Coach Prime turns out to be the hot thing nothing is to stop Apple from getting him to a program in their fold by doubling or tripling his pay. The thing with some of these big tech companies is they have outrageous piles of money on hand compared to the traditional media companies.
Prime has Amazon deals
He likely is compelled to push against Apple

I listen to a lot of college radio on SiriusXM and the comments about Colorado in one minute it’s good the next minute we are trash and yet nobody seems to fully appreciate who, and what prime is to the bigger picture of brand, promotion, media, and coaching. Everyone repeats the line then in three years he’s either gone to a bigger school or gone all together. They never seem to say what if he wants to be there forever and kick everyone’s ass.

What I don't get about that narrative is that if successful enough at CU to be offered other jobs or he feels his CFB calling is satisfied, then he's got no reason within his or CU's control to leave or to not complete his contract.

According to recent reports, Disney as a company is expected to register an $800 million loss after the recently ended third quarter of 2023. Nobody ever imagined Disney would be sold to a different company but the recent times and the streaming failures at Disney+ are pushing the company down that route.

I don’t think the whole company is for sale. But I think ESPN is probbly for sale. And more importantly for Apple than the ESPN/ESPN+ sale is the possible sale of 20th Century Fox, Pixar, Marvel, and or Lucasfilm to AppleTV. That lets Disney refocus on Disney Studios and its other properties. And it gives AppleTV a much bigger portfolio of content.

Offloading ESPN unloads billions in sports rights obligations. If he bundles ESPN to ABC and then spins it off as its own public company then BK is probably right around the corner. That carried loss would be pretty valuable to Disneys tax returns for the forseeable future.

Is Pandora's box about to be opened ?
FSU must think they have a firm B1G offer. I can’t imagine breaking the GoR for a deal that is very favorable to ESPN when they are cash strapped is going to encourage ESPN to double their payout by moving them to the SEC. All these teams realize only one team can win a league every year right…and that Ohio State is still there?

They would make a great travel partner for Central Florida.

To the bolded properties, if that's the direction they decided to go Apple is sitting on the kind of cash that could buy that from Disney plus all of the Mattel film, tv and digital rights.

And they could do it at the same time as it's acquiring the sports rights plus ESPN/ABC that make AppleTV a must subscription for anyone who likes sports.
