CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

I would bet that KU + ISU are on the table as travel partner additions for the Pac-10.

Some current members love the AAU prestige. And those schools need an affiliation that gives them a reset and a hope for a seat at the table - just like the remaining Pac-10.

Then if you can't get TCU, SMU is actually wealthier and a bit better on academics for the DFW market.

Poach SDSU, Boise State and UNLV from the MWC.

That's a lot of great markets, prestigious institutions, and name brand programs.

Football is strong. Basketball is insane. And those of us with a chance in the 2035 round of expansion (when ACC GoR is up), are positioned to make moves.

I like the 2 Texas teams, KU and SDSU argument to the Pac.
I don’t like B12, but getting a better chance at Texas recruits would be a big deal for Buffs and Pac doing nothing for that. CA recruiting won’t be less competitive (unless Cal left out).

I don't look at things in a snapshot.

Denver, Seattle and Phoenix. How do they compare going forward against Waco, Lubbock and Stillwater. I'll hang up and listen off the air.

I don't see it. At all. The four teams that founded the Pacific Coast Conference are still there. SC and UCLA were not added until several years later. The origins are from the Pacific Northwest. There is too much tradition to throw out for an also-ran like the Big 12.

Geography, history, partnerships - none of it matters.

Just what $$ can you scrabble for in the moment.

WTF? Perhaps that is CU’s problem. How about we think about ourselves. Build a great football program to massively improve our university.

Markets don't matter anywhere near as much as they did 10-11 years ago.

I really like the idea of creating a Pac-14 to match numbers with the ACC and formalize a scheduling alliance.

Mimic their new setup of no divisions, 3 fixed rivals on the schedule every year, and then play half the others each year for 8 conference games.


The Pac could do the same and each could play 2 cross-conference games. (I'd do it based on order of finish the previous season.)

In hoops, the ACC plays 20 conference games. Pac does the same and we play 2 games against each other - 1 in non-conference slate and another during the conference season.

More money and brand reach for everyone. And if the conferences get raided down the road at least they're both set up to merge what's left and survive.

Those schools have probably seen the writing on the wall for a while and have come to terms with this eventuality. Cal, suddenly has to deal with the kick in the nuts that UCLA is living the high life while they are about to be homeless.
 
No network is going to offer any conference a big deal without a guarantee that the conference is going to stay in tact. They would have to build something into the contract that would give them leverage. With the last round of TV deals coming to an end and new ones on the horizon, there is a lot of volatility as teams try to position themselves. Once new deals are in place the music stops and you’d better have a chair.

That's basically what I'm trying to argue. The money is going to be better in the Big 12. All CU can do at this point is hope the ACC's GoR holds together until 2036 and use the Big 12 and the stability that being a member of that league would bring as an opportunity to get it together.

Not a bad idea. It would probably allow the Pac to pick off whomever they wanted from Big 12.
