CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

that pac bowl tie-in requirement is actually a good thing for the departed schools. the left-behind 2 have been waving their tiny wee-wee's around with respect to conference distributions and such. the 10 may have some additional leverage now.

also, why the hell did it take them so long to fire gk? dude had like one job-- hold the conference together and get a tv deal.

i hate our old conference. i hate our new conference. i hate other schools' conferences.

**** all these assholes.

I have trouble accepting that it was an impossible job when I consider what Yormark accomplished with more disruption and lesser assets vis a vis the Big 12 situation.
The same deal the Big 12 got was offered to the Pac 10. Whether the Presidents refused to take it, thinking they could get more, or whether GK convinced them there was a bigger deal to be had via streaming, I don't know if that's really known.

The problem was that Oregon and Washington were aiming for the B1G the entire time, while the remaining Big 12 members were all on board with each other.

It's a real shame because we could be talking about a Pac 10 + 6 of the Big 12 had the Pac 10 just taken the deal first. Could have been KU, KSU, OSU, TTU, TCU and BYU/UH/ISU, while relegating the rest.

Yormark had one advantage - the schools in the B12 are far less laissez faire than those in the P12. Campus leadership at Kansas, OSU, Tech, etc care a whole lot more about their athletic programs and have a better understanding of their place in the college athletics landscape. P12 leadership was deluded into believing their **** doesn’t stink. Kliavkoff was being given marching orders by people who had an unrealistically inflated opinion of their importance.

The Conferences are useless
Time to move away from that model because they are not working for the benefit of the athletes, fans, communities, etc.

I would love baseball, hockey or both. I know at some juncture, there was an analysis of making the foam dome multi-use (hoops and hockey). I do not think that it worked. Beyond the money/Title IX hurdles, the other issue is where to put a baseball/softball stadium. This leads into the never ending and still ongoing East Campus fight. IMO, that property would be by far the best place for a great baseball/softball stadium for it to be anywhere near campus. They would need to build better/more access points; but this would be a special expansion for the overall University. Currently, our campus is pretty land-locked.

Hockey had a bridge location with the First Bank Center (Broomfield Events Center) but they are bull-dozing it. For anyone that has gone to concerts, past hockey, or high school commencements there, it is a great arena. It took $45M to build and is only 16 years old. They still owe $34M on the original bond.
South Campus is where sports will go. Golf is already there along with Tennis I believe.

The two bad options argument doesn't make any sense. The road trip argument is fair, but its hard to not be impressed with the job Yormark has done with the Big 12.

Yipee, more mediocrity for the B12.
We're heading for a power 3-heard a guy talk about FSU/GT to the Big 10, the Carolina/VA schools to the SEC, and a group of leftovers led by Clemson to the XII.

I gotta think the final round of this would include something resembling a move west by the SEC. You can't match what the Big 10 did, but I think you can't give up this part of the country totally. Utah/CU?

It’s a new ball game if the B10 grabs FSU, GT, and Miami.

How would the SEC respond to a devastating blow like that?

Would they look west?

The B1G wants to get into Florida which brings up the question, would the SEC invite FSU to block the B1G from getting into their footprint? I'm not sure how attractive Miami is to either conference.

There has to be an upper limit on a useful size of a conference right?

Or are the Big Three going to shed Vanderbilt et al?

I keep coming back to what Joel Klatt said at the time. Yormark was smart enough to ensure he got to the table and got to eat first.

Kliavkoff was dealt a bad hand but did nothing to improve it. His options were limited and he certainly didn't do a good job during his tenure, but I think many would have failed in his position.

It's going to happen at one point. Whether it's as part of them directly getting kicked out of the boat to make space for someone more attractive or them not being offered a seat when the elite moves on is the only thing I am not sure about.

I think it’d have to be part of a major restructure where a new league entity is created and a handful of programs simply aren’t invited. There’s no real precedent for a University being kicked out of a league and I imagine there would be some serious legal issues.
