CU players in the NFL

That's why I'm surprised Steve Atwater lasted as long as he did. That dude was a damn monster. Ask Green Bay and Christian Okoye.
Difference was that Atwater was the hammer, not the nail.

Atwater was the one delivering the blows, he was doing the hitting with his shoulder pads, chest pad, forearms, sometimes with his head but as a battering ram.

Viska was the one taking those shots, hits on his extended ribs, on the sides of his knees, hips, ankles. All those shots to areas that weren't as protected resulted in injuries that slowed him down.

McClendon and Will Sherman cut
Bummer about Will Sherman. He’s hung around for the last five years but you have to be on an active roster for three years to receive the pension. Practice squad doesn’t count, so he has zero accrued seasons.

He did earn about $450,000 over his career thus far. Hopefully, he can find a spot with another team.

He’s really carved out a solid NFL career.

Overall Sheppard, CSC, and Sherman are the only ones not to make it.

I’d say that’s a win
Sheppard might still find his way to a practice squad someplace. He's a bigger guy who showed that he can make contested catches.

Shilo as well may get picked up allthough his fight the other day hurts him more than it would seem. Teams might have been thinking here's a hard hitting guy who might come in and develop, maybe away from his dad he will show better judgement and more maturity. He just lost the battle on that last part.

Sherman has been around for 5 years, he has an outside chance of catching on in-season if a team has some injuries and wants to bring in a vet for an insurance policy.

He vests his NFL pension in his first game this year, and this is the first year he’s worked at FB. He earned that as an NFL TE. So…
I’m not sure why you want to fight this. He wasn’t drafted as a te and he has no stats at te in the league. He’s listed as a fb currently but only been utilized on st. I don’t think anyone is saying he’s undeserving of a spot in the league or that he’s a bad player.

Because every time his name gets mentioned someone comments that he was a lousy TE at CU, which I find ridiculous. He’s still the best TE we’ve had in the past—what?—decade? Then he made his way into the NFL, listed as a TE, where he has made a career, listed as a TE. He’s clearly has NFL athleticism and understands game at a level that he was a Pete Carroll fav. Having no receptions does not mean he has not been on the field as a TE, and he’s been on the active rosters to be able to vest. Sure, he’s a back-up and special teams specialist, but that’s because he versatile, tough, knows his stuff, and fast enough to get down the field in the NFL.

I don’t get the meh about him as a CU player who has made an NFL career without the physical tools of a Viska. That should be worthy of more respect, not less.

And rather than simply cheering his making the roster, you decided to call out the controversy.

The Russell argument many made was that he was not an NFL TE but could make a team with grit, working hard in the kicking game, and finding a position switch. That’s quite literally what happened for him. Happy for the guy. Unclear why anybody would gravedig an argument that’s so clear.

My old boss knew a guy that played against him in high school.

He didn't remember it.

As in, he remembered that he was going to play against him. And he remembers the day after the game. He also remembers everyone telling him how he got knocked out during the game.

I can understand why. That dude didn't just hit you, he about killed your ass. That Green Bay Super Bowl, he was killing everybody, teammates included. Just a vicious ass player.

Will S. (Packers) and Cam S-C (Jags) got picked up as practice squad players today, so they are employed by the NFL and have an opportunity. Two deserving undrafted players. Never forget that Cam was responsible for positioning Travis into the exact spot to make the Heisman-moment walkoff forced fumble in OT against Baylor. Scroll to 1:15 in this video.

Or just watch the whole thing. That's my recommendation
