CP's on field performance certainly does not justify a top 5 salary (yet).

His measurable impacts to the university as a whole definitely do. Applications are way up. Admissions are up. Applications, admissions, and enrollment from minority communities are off the ****ing chart from what was formerly expected of lily white CU.

His intangible impacts beyond those things that can be measured are icing on the cake.

Ultimately, anyone who looks at his pay only in "what has his team accomplished on the football field?" terms is missing a meaningful part of the value he brings to campus. Those people will consequently undervalue both his contribution to the school, and how much the school should pay to keep him around (and happy).

I hit the laugh emoji, but this is the part I don't know:

If you could go back in time to where our applications, admissions, and enrollment numbers both as a whole and for minorities were 3 years ago, and ask the chancellor, president, and regents how much money they would be willing to invest each year to achieve the numbers we have today, I feel like they would laugh and say "it's impossible."

But if you insisted that it could happen with the right investment, and forced them to put a value on it, you'd end up with answers spread from $3MM to $20MM and clustered around the low end of that.

This is why I really do think you could/ should take his "football value," and then add a $3-5MM premium on top of that, and it would still be a good investment for the university.

There is simply no other football coach available to hire that brings the off field benefits to the university that he does, so you'll always be paying a premium for those benefits.

And to be clear, I think those benefits to the school and community are worth the premium.

In what world has he earned being the highest paid coach? He’s a really good recruiter but he hasn’t had the #1 class, or even a top 15 overall class, since he’s been here.

He’s not the best offensive or defensive mind.

Hasn’t won any championships.

He is the best for brand elevation. But other than that, what else? We can offer Prime a very good contract, make him the highest paid coach in the Big 12, without jumping to extremes like the highest paid coach in America. Let’s win a big 12 championship at least, then we can discuss

My numbers are based on Highest Paid Coach, Incentives, Profit Sharing on targets related to Attendance, Viewership, Merchandise, Concessions, Radio Shows, TV Shows, Sponsorships that he could help acquire (Success Fees) etc...

Plus, the $21 Million is his number, so you could use the terms "Up to $21 Million"

I’m with you. CU has a multi-BILLION annual budget. To the CU system, Prime is easily worth 22 million/yr. I wouldn’t pay him that but you’re damn sure I’m paying him top5 money.

For example, CU just pissed away 23 million for a parking garage at UCCS. A freaking parking lot!!! In the face of multiple yoy’s in declining enrollment down here.

Tell me, is Prime worth more or less to CU than a concrete parking lot at a second-rate satellite municipal college?
