Pecking at the low branches has had us starving for success for far too long (MT notwithstanding, as that was a good hire that we didn’t support with resources and admin changes).

I disagree the hire has to be a solid football coach who isn’t a pretender. Both Herman and Mendenhall fit that description, which is why neither will be hired.

Agreement cuts what they owe him by roughly 50% but eliminates him needing to seek other employment or offsetting what ASU pays him if he does find another job.
Don't know that this will help CU in negotiating a buyout with Dorrell. Herm had enough issues with the NCAA that they could have argued that it was a firing for cause.

We’ll pay Dorrell a 50% bonus on top of his buyout
He earned every penny.
