#Fire Coach Dorrell

So Rick George had a conversation with Channel 4s General Manager apologizing to him for Dorrell's actions against the cameraman. Why isn't Karl doing this? How embarrassing. Maybe this is the start of HCKD foot getting closer out the door. Ending up 1-11 won't help either.
Kinda the beauty of this is you could fire him for that, so that it doesn't look like we fired the reigning Pac-12 coach of the year after one season.
Ergo, when looking for a new coach, the new guy won't be like "whoa, you just ****can your coaches willy nilly." Noooo, we fired him for being an asshole. Just sayin'

I think last year was more about what the competition was going through vis a vis COVID, opt outs etc versus HCKD coaching acumen. Dorrell and his staff did a good job of managing that chaos somewhat better than the rest. Almost none of it had to do with Xs and Os.
What I think was, we actually have some people that can play football, the coaches didn't have time to really do anything with them and said, "here's some plays, go do it." Then this year the coaches got too into their **** and ****ed it all up.

1. Does anyone know if the cameraman actually asked HCKD a tough question to trigger that?
2. If the CUAD can, in any way, use this as justification to fire with cause and avoid the buyout, I'd support the move.
^^^ This x 1,000,000

Doesn’t matter. In Dorrell’s year as OC for Vanderbilt, he tried four QBs. The coach is the problem.

You cannot read the below link from Vanderbilt and not see present day CU.

Zero SEC wins and identical results we are getting
Red flag 😞

This guy seriously struck the lotto…hell, CU could have paid KD half of what he is being paid, and maybe someone would have poached him for an analyst job somewhere after last season. Nope! CU dug in between couch cushions and checked out last seasons jackets for the money to put a liability at HC.

Not only did CU hire a coach that is burying this program and short-circuited many recruits that many of us were excited about for the future…but now turns out he may not be the nice, safe guy that wouldn’t leave CU high and dry. KD won’t leave on his own terms, but the seed(s) have been planted to try and get him out on a “you don’t have to go home, but you’re not welcome here any longer” situation.

I didn’t pay attention to the Late Hawk and then Embree years, but if it was worse than this, then I’m glad that I was oblivious to CU football, more or less, after GB was let go to about 2014/15, when I got the bug to be more attentive to college football again.

And national press is picking up on it.

Is it flat out insane that I actually think a mutually agreed resignation this week (in lieu of a potential for cause firing) and slapping an interim on Chev for the remainder of the season would be better than finishing the season with KD?

This is perfectly stated.

I remember HCKD bragging that they were successful last year with only about half of the playbook. He was excited to get his entire system in.

I remember wondering if the reason they were successful was because they only had half the playbook in.

I know a thing or two about this. Over-coaching is the WORST thing that you can do to a team. This team looks over-coached.

Does KD go bunker mode from here on out?
Does this make Wilson stop-gap HC for these rest of the year, or will RG handle press for the rest of the season…which would be a bigger black eye on this whole scenario. Does a standing CoY in the PAC12, and all around nice, stable guy act out in a seemingly unprovoked manner towards the media, then let’s his boss dole out apologies?

Lewis sucking this year is directly due to Lewis seeing no PT last year besides one half. They should have given him snaps last year

Lewis sucking this year is because Lewis is nowhere near ready to play at this level-and that's something that giving him playing time last year would not have had any effect on. Don't be fooled by the second half of the Alamo Bowl-Texas was extremely vanilla defensively because they were up 30 and he was playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers. This kid is a massive project-but you keep telling yourself he's Bryce Young, dude.

I’m not saying he is a world beater. But a pretty lame excuse to say he is struggling because he is inexperienced, when they had all the opportunity to get his feet wet last year

If this team finishes 1-11 with that one win being over an FCS team, he's gone. The costs of keeping him far outweigh just cutting the buyout check.

The other question, though, is were they really all that successful last year? They held on to win by 3 points against UCLA, which was a nice win, but opening games can be hard to predict. Clearly UCLA came out flat and CU jumped to a big lead and barely hung on.

Stanford was also a 3 point win, but this was a down year for the cardinal. Plus, the Stanford QB was in his first game coming back from injury and looked rusty. I don’t think CU beats either UCLA or Stanford if there was a rematch later in the year.

Arizona was a terrible team, coach got fired.

SDSU started to show our offensive woes, but we won at home, mostly because SDSU had even worse offensive woes.

Lost to Utah and Texas to finish out.

That wouldn't have helped. I saw a kid who probably shouldn't be playing for another year plus watching some of the entire games of his I watched in HS. He did the same type of stuff then that he does right now-can't go through his progressions. Very afraid of making a mistake. That's also what friends of mine who coached against his HS team said when I told them he was starting here.

Of course getting live playing time in low pressure situations helps. Just like it would sure as hell help Carter right now.

All fair points.

Last year I was very pleased with the team’s discipline. There were very few presnap penalties, offsides, targeting etc. it was the first CU team in years that didn’t beat themselves. I was hoping that would continue.

He disrespected the press. Twice now. And did not take accountability and apologize.

That’s wrong.
I forgot to post that with a different font. I fully think what he did was a big deal. You know I'm the one who started this thread.

Apologies. Stress often reveals character doesn’t it. I suspect RG and KD both wish they had a redo on this one.

A short , bursting temper is a sign of low T. Does KD need to check out the closest male clinic?

Didn't he call his own offense as a senior in HS? That would point to the young man being smart & just woefully uncomfortable with the offense right now. Locked up, afraid to make mistakes, and slow to process decisions. Game reps last year would have absolutely improved the situation.

Is your back hurting from carrying so much water for this staff?

Yeah, I'm quoting myself - I still think this isn't a bad idea.

It kind of doesn't matter which coach you put the interim tag on - you'd be laying down a marker now that this performance is unacceptable.

If you really want to make it clear that we're hiring someone new as opposed to giving Chev or Wilson an audition you find one of the retired coaches hanging around Dal Ward to be interim for the rest of the season (Cabral or Barnett would work - no one would think either one would want to be here next year).

We're going into a "bye" week - let Chev throw out KD's playbook and show us what he can do without constraints from above. Give him the opportunity to succeed or fail instituting his own plays.

We might pull out a couple wins this year if the above happens, and we'd be better set for next year.

If nothing happens (and that's the most likely) we'll finish 1-11, maybe 2-10.

And then I'd say we'd have 2/3 odds of an lame duck year with KD in 2022, and a 1/3 chance that he gets fired sometime around January 10th, you know, a great time to be hiring a coach!
