The job of the Athletic Director is to resolve those issues.I feel the same way. But then, when I start contemplating it, the problems go much deeper than RG. The two biggest factors to me are funding and recruiting restrictions.

I don’t disagree with you. But if the powers that be won’t support the AD then I don’t care who the AD is. He or she can’t succeed. The job of the Athletic Director is to resolve those issues.
If RG gets another wack at hiring a football coach, he HAS to use a search firm. IIRC he didn't for Tucker or the current idiot. While I agree it would be best if this entire University could start fresh with a new Chancellor, AD and HC in 2023, I will take a new HC at minimum, and if our guy dio has actual scoop about Phil D being on his retirement tour this year, 2/3 will be nice. At the end of the day RG did hire Tucker, so I think he does have it in him to do what's needed.
The hope is that Saliman is "more calculating than we all think" (h/t to dio) and is working to backfill Phil D's position with someone more dynamic, and will then work to remove the admission/transfer hurdles to make CU a more attractive place. At that point, maybe RG's fire will be relit and he'll make another big swing as his lasting legacy at CU.
Meh. The Athletic Director should command an automomous department with enough money that they have the power to do what they need to win. That’s why the President needs to take the power, find a dynamic AD, and get to work. We have a feckless AD who lost his way with the fundraising component.I don’t disagree with you. Easy peazy.Meh. The Athletic Director should command an automomous department with enough money that they have the power to do what they need to win. Yup - RG needs to be as far away as possible from any contract negotiations.I am saying that the University President needs to hire a new, visionary Athletic Director who will then be empowered to hire the next Head Football Coach.
It is easy. These people are already empowered to do these things. We just accept that they don’t.Easy peazy.
Build it and they will come!I feel the same way. But then, when I start contemplating it, the problems go much deeper than RG. The two biggest factors to me are funding and recruiting restrictions.
And Tucker was a home run hire. An aggressive athletic director with a clear vision and full support of the University administration is what is needed, not a search firm.If RG gets another wack at hiring a football coach, he HAS to use a search firm. IIRC he didn't for Tucker or the current idiot.
I don't know why you'd be skeptical. I mean everything has gone according to plan from what I can see.I remain skeptical CU will do what it needs to this season. They’ll win one somehow and fire a bunch of ACs to buy KD another shot at it
Nah, this is Dorrell's full staff now. He's turned over every coaching spot except Hagan. That excuse is done.I remain skeptical CU will do what it needs to this season. They’ll win one somehow and fire a bunch of ACs to buy KD another shot at it
0-12 is as stable as it gets. No questions every weekAll that matters is stability.
Wait until we lose by 30 and nothing happensWhat does being an 18.5 point underdog do?
I really like this idea. Therefore, it will never happen. But good on you for the thought. This would uncomplicate things tremendously. The AD needs to report directly to the President.
Athletics should not be managed by the guy that is responsible for academics.
I feel this is overly simplistic. There’s only so much “overcoming” that a guy can do with somebody who clearly has a different set of priorities. The job of the Athletic Director is to resolve those issues.
Nah, this is Dorrell's full staff now. He's turned over every coaching spot except Hagan. That excuse is done.
How much did we get from Michigan State when they poached Tucker? Presumably that’s money we had not budgeted and would be around to help offset the buyout of the coach we had to hire to replace him especially since we didn’t have to pay a buyout to get Dorrell in the first place. It’s absurd to think the AD can’t come up the money. Buyouts are paid over multiple years, it’s not like they have to cut him a check for $8m at the time of firing. Spread it out over 3-5 years if need be, but they are going to lose a ton of revenue if they go winless and they keep him for 2023
That money went to cancer research....How much did we get from Michigan State when they poached Tucker?
RG also found a way to screw that up. His buyout was only $3M.How much did we get from Michigan State when they poached Tucker? Under Dorrell, the quarterbacks coach, Vanderbilt was the only team in the FBS to start four different quarterbacks. Multiple quarterbacks played in eight of 12 games, and they combined for 13 passing TDs and 19 interceptions (both worst in the SEC).Why did we hire this clown?
Vanderbilt fires Karl Dorrell, two other coaches
Karl Dorrell, Marc Lubick, Bill Hughan not returning next seasonwww.tennessean.com
Oh but he did learn something... don't play QBs that throw interceptions... Unfortunately the QB that we have that has a very low risk of throwing interceptions also isn't accurate, can't read defenses and doesn't see the field. Whether that's because Lewis is hot garbage, or because KD beat a strong fear of interceptions into him is TBD.Under Dorrell, the quarterbacks coach, Vanderbilt was the only team in the FBS to start four different quarterbacks. I see KD hasn't learned a damn thing.
There are certain games that have convinced me that it was never going to work with a coach. Fresno State cemented it for me with Embree. If I was hanging onto any hope after the 2009 season with Hawkins, the game at Cal in the beginning of 2010 ended it for me. In 2018, it wasn't 1 game so much as the 7-game losing streak and the team looking like it had quit those last 3 weeks.
I don't think the TCU game got me there, but it got me close. I saw a lot of quit in the 2nd half.
That makes the decision to fire Dorrell easier.

You won’t be alone. I think the entire staff at CU-Boulder will be celebrating that day.I'm going to throw an honest to god party the day that Phil D leaves CU. Good ****ing riddance.
Dorrell is in year 3. This is his team and his situation.Nah, this is Dorrell's full staff now. He's turned over every coaching spot except Hagan. That excuse is done.
