Fire Shurmur

My favorite Shurmur calls from this week:

1. Throwing a sideline out to the long side of the field from inside our own endzone (pick 6).
2. Running out of the shotgun on 4th and inches from our own 29 yard line (2 yard loss).
3. Running a play action pass on a play from our own 45 yard line with 10 seconds left in the first half (incompletion). Man, there's no way that fake run action didn't freeze the DBs dead in their tracks in that situation.

Why did we fire the other guy, again?

You talking about the guy who put up 45 points in his teams body bag game opener?

I think it was game management issue / a difference of opinion with his boss / he got SS injured that was the issue…

No he’s talking about the guy that has 0 points at halftime against Oregon st.

It's pretty easy for me to be critical of an OC who used to be a good OL coach, yet somehow has failed to recognize that he needs to step in and help the OL coaching because his guy is failing.
I think a lot of this has to do with scheme. When we decide to run it's a slow developing play up the middle. When you bring in a whole new oline, it's unfair to be one dimensional and have them in pass protection 90% of the time.

I would be more willing to give that benefit of the doubt if one of them didn't act like a matador dodging a bull every time a DL runs a stunt.

Problem is we don't even have anyone competent to replace him if we fired him. Bartolone? Just garbage all around

It’s not Shurmur’s show. It’s 2’s, Deion’s and 12’s. In that order. I love the sideline huddles. 2 and 12 talk a lot.

I said it last year to lots of push back and have mentioned several times.

Shurmur in his position last year was over the offense, belying his "offensive analyst" role. In CPs world, Shurmur was the senior guy from day one and he had his hands in it from the summer of 2023.

I believe "the Sanders" decided after spring 2023 they needed more NFL like offensive concepts.

Shurmur tried to implement that from the beginning, as he was hired to do. We never saw the Kent State offense and as the season went on, we moved further from it and closer to what Shurmur wanted to run.

This is our offense. Coach Prime bet on the wrong guy.
His idiotic infatuation with "NFL guys" has backfired as it has so many times in college football. **** it.

I'm coming round to the thought that NFL offensive guys just don't understand how offenses can and should work when you don't have experienced, professional players on both sides of the ball.

They think things won't work because professional defenses would obliterate them.

They overestimate the ability of the players both physically, and mentally.

They think their players can grasp and execute really advanced and sophisticated concepts, *and* they think the opponent's players can do it too.

The more of their career they spend in the no fun league the more they think "xyz doesn't work."

When the truth is that "xyz doesn't work in the NFL, but it sure as **** does in college."
