Fire Shurmur

Funny how this thread originated after the Nebraska loss and then again after this loss with crickets in between. Nothing really changed in between with this team, the offensive design or playcalling, the effectiveness of the run game, etc

Nothing changed is exactly the problem. We were bailed out in most games by great circus plays but we don’t have a good offense. It’s not a Shurmur problem though…

I disagree that SS is changing all the called plays.
I’ll admit I could be wrong there. I think this is a Schurmer problem but maybe that’s jaded broncos fan seeing how inept he was there. I think we’ll know for sure if Pat leaves for another job. If he bounces it’s bc he didn’t have the control he wanted. If he stays it’s bc he knows no one else wants him.

It’s not Shedeur calling plays like an OC. It’s the OC being forced to make the offense Shedeur wanted instead of their offense. This offense shares almost 0 in common with Shurmur’s past and is the same as each of shedeurs stops. Far too much prime and Shedeur control over the design

Im not sure how you can argue this and it’s fine I guess. We got results that we could only dream of two years ago. However, it has to change going forward

Schurmer never called plays in college before? Of course it’s not going to be the same as he ran in New York or Minnesota?

Go watch the JSU offense two years ago and Colorado offense one year ago.

The offensive scheme is basically the same
So we demoted last years OC who was miserable at running the ball. Forced Pat to run the JSU offense and are still miserable at running the ball? Could it be that the Oline just sucks?

Is the CU offense over the last 1.5 years similar to anything that Shurmur has run previously in his career? No. That’s just a fact. Clear no.

Is the CU offense over the last 1.5 years similar to what was run a Jackson State? Yes.

Will Shurmur change the offense to run his version of the west coast offense next year? And if he does, will it be successful? Nobody knows.

I don't know why some of you are always trying to ignore the common factors among these three seasons.

Three seasons, three different OC, three different set of OL. Three different set of RBs. What is that thing they share?

I have said this before and I will say this again: I am excited to see Shedeur developing without his dad. I truly believe being with CP for his whole career starts hindering his development at some point.

I can see the an argument that we don’t benefit at all from running it 25 times at 2 yards a clip.
No, it doesn't work in that way.

You run the ball to get the defense respect that possibility. You run the ball so the D can't be cover 8 every single time.

Running the ball is a mindset, you don't abandon running the ball just because you have had a couple of them stuffed before.

Wasn’t Wilkerson tops in the conf in rushing at Jackson state? Hard to believe they just decided they didn’t want to do that anymore.

Yeah this is the thing. People keep saying “this isn’t Shurmur’s offense” because it doesn’t look like what he ran in the NFL. Well, no ****, this is college and he had never designed a college offense.

The truth is somewhere in between. Shurmur has acknowledged that he has never really designed an offense around shotgun and 4WR sets, which also affect the run game, so the base concepts are what Shedeur knows and has been running the past 4 years while Shurmur was constructing the gameplan, situational calls, helping SS with pre and post snap reads, what defenses are trying to do, etc.

IMO, this was about not forcing Shedeur, Hunter and other offensive players into a new offensive scheme in the last year where they knew they would have two Heisman candidates and compete for a Big 12 Championship.

In hindsight, the major mistake, IMO, was Prime hiring Sean Lewis in 2023 without understanding that his entire success was predicated on a very specific college only offensive system, and not thinking about the bigger picture that included 2024 and the need/desire for some stability and continuity.

This is the bottom line. And also that our schedule was ass. The one good team we played demolished us.

In all of Shurmur's prior stops the complaints against him have never been that he wasn't conservative enough, in fact the opposite. Fans wanted him to open things up and put more emphasis on plays with big play potential.

What we saw this year absolutely was not Shurmur unless he got hit on the head and changed his entire way of thinking.

I believe if Prime lets him be himself he will be very good for Juju's development. In the past, at the pro level so not exactly the same, he has been good at protecting developing QBs.

Hope is now that it is no longer Prime's son at QB the offense will become more diversified and multi-dimensional.
