I’ll clap as loud as anyone for Julian Hammond on Senior Day while at the same time thanking the good lord I won’t have to watch him at the CEC ever again.

I hear you.

On the one hand, I give full respect to him for leading the team in points and assists with all the work that had to go into developing to the extent of his talent. Mad props.

On the other hand, Hammond should have never been leading a Power school in points and assists. It's depressing.

This one is on Tad and staff. Can't whiff on recruiting like that again.

Tad's done a great job keeping this team going and in games despite a horrible record and being way overmatched. Tad's done a horrible job building the team.
I just hope he doesn't go into the offseason thinking Kossaras, Sanders or Holland can run this team next year. We HAVE TO get some legit transfers this time around.

I would even add a poor job of managing the team. I don't think anyone outside of 1 or 2 guys was ever on solid footing as far as being comfortable in this system. Far too many starting line ups and wildly inconsistent rotation to ever be cohesive.

As you have stated CU is probably gonna lose several guys in the portal which will make it real tough next year. I'm guessing, but, I'd say Dak, Rancik, Diop, Carrington, Anderson hit the portal. Dak can get a huge pay day with his upside, it'd be unpopular here, but Nebraska could easily offer him $500k to come home and play in front of 14,000 nightly. Rancik could stay, but again he could get a big pay day, say back to one of several California schools where he has ties. Diop has seemed extremely uncomfortable all year even when he was starting, as a former 4 star recruit he could parlay that into a new gig in a new setting. Carrington probably loses his scholarship after this year. He would be greatly served by transferring to a BIg West or WCA school where he could go and play 25-30 minutes a game and enjoy himself on a ride. Anderson, concussion or not is probably going to be out for a number of reasons, if I were him I'd be looking for a new start, it doesn't seem he really fits in to any future plans. With the wild roster usage over the past few weeks he hasn't played a minute. As for other possible hold overs Malone could be back, but he'd probably be better served going back to like Ball State or something like that where he'd probably be more effective as a player and get more consistent time. The NCAA will probably not pass any legislation in the short term, so Baskin probably not back, even if they did he doesn't really seem to figure in to any plans with his recently diminished role.

That leaves 5 incoming freshman, Smith, Kossaras, Malone(maybe), and Crawford. Again there will be thousands of kids in the portal this year, but if you were on the outside looking in what would your take be. Probably not gonna get a huge pay day NIL wise, a wildly struggling team, a coach that may or may not return for a number of reasons, a rigid and methodical system that doesn't really compliment modern playing styles, and that kind of spells another tough year, maybe worse than this one.

All or none of this could happen, but I guess the faithful can remain optimistic.
