Games thread - MEN'S Bball scheduled to host Utah (Sat., 2/12/21, 6:00 PM MT) and visit OSU (Tues., 7:00 PM MT)

This team is incomplete and inconsistent, but I love these guys. So often, they find a way.

Had to replace 6 scholarship seniors, including a 4-year starter at PG. Lost the grad transfer PG prior to the season, never got 2 of the freshmen (including our most heralded recruit) on the court, and then lost our only true Center & 1 of our 2 upperclassmen (starter & best defender) for the year. Down to 8/13 guys.

But we've gritted out a 15-9 (7-7) record. Says a lot about the character of these guys. And it might be Tad's best coaching job.

This aged well. Good call genius!

the fact is he was lazy on defense. Several completely unnecessary reach fouls, which landed him on the bench for long stretches, and nearly cost CU the game because he was easily the best player on the court. Boyle has made frequent references to JW's need to improve his defense.

The child made me leave with 10 minutes left. You are all very welcome
I should probably have more appreciation for the number of times back in the day that Nikita managed the little dude in the Concourse while I stayed in my seat until the end.

Zandi - it’s not too late to delete every post that you have in this thread.
Blow me

Did we give up 21 to 1 player in the first half with 0 adjustments?

We're we in danger of losing, at home, to the worst team in the pac-12?

Did we ever go back to zone after it worked, exactly once?

You people eat KD alive for every ****ing mistake in the universe, but refuse to realize there are *****s in Tad's armor that could be fixed, but year after year, aren't?

Except that we won. Scoreboard says you were wrong. The scouting & game plan were correct. Instead of scrapping it, Tad pushed them to execute and raise their focus. It worked. We won.

how dare Tad stick to his guns and win the game!

The team is going to continue to struggle with only 8 scholarship players. However, having 4 sophomores and a freshman in the game in the final minutes is going to payoff next year. Fun game to be at in the end.
Next year's team is going to be so deep. I think the biggest challenge will be finding that core of reliable, consistent performers. Pieces are definitely going to be there, though.

Not gonna start another thread for the end of the week. USC beats UCLA, barely. UCLA down 3, forced a turnover TWICE to get a chance to tie, first time with about 20 seconds left, Tyger turned it right back over, with 2 seconds left Tyger launched a heave that almost went in. Probably better for the conference that USC got that one. **** Andy Enfield though.

I thought that was going in. Tyger is a very good player but he gets sped up too much sometimes.

When Tad has roughly the same number of NCAA tournament appearances as the rest of the coaches in our history combined then yes he gets a pass on a season or two that aren't up to the standards he has set, standards higher than CU Buffs basketball fans ever hoped for prior to his taking over the program.

When Tad is coaching a team that was going to be one of the younger teams in the PAC to start with then had a rash of significant injuries bringing it down to the point where he doesn't even have a full second unit to go to then yes he gets a pass.

When he has recruits that tournament regulars would have loved to get included in those injuries, when his recruiting class for next year is again the kind of talent that you build tournament teams with, yes he gets a pass.

Sure there are things about Tad we complain about. There isn't a coach in the country that doesn't have things the fans complain about, that is the nature of basketball but if you or anyone thinks that we have even a decent chance of finding somebody who could match the quality of teams we have had under Tad then you are delusional.

With 8 players including 2 Fr, 5 So and 1 Sr. Utah had 9 with 1 Fr, 2 So, 2 Jr and 4 Sr.

Great thread. Would read again.

I dedicate these lines of colonialist poetry to @Hallett Hell and @Buffnik

'If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you"

Of course, I myself couldn't watch until we took the lead at the end. Olympic curling is like visual nembutol, BTW.

The season isn't over yet

The season isn't over yet, teams get hot in March. I know it's unlikely, but so was Oregon State last year.

I turned the game on after getting back from dinner with about 16 minutes left and the Buffs down by 11.

You have got be to kidding me! It took all of about 5 minutes in real life time to realize something good was going to happen.

Great watch.

Need a point guard.
Don't disagree, but I think Jabari will leave and Tad will make a big his priority on the transfer market. Don't recall a year we've ever brought in more than one transfer. As for high school point guards, it sure is quiet out there.

Nembutal numbs it all but I prefer alcohol.

We need a point guard? KJ looks really good to me

More the merrier. Not a big knock on kj. But it’s not a stretch for either him or kee to spend time off ball. Larger point was that Jabari leaving would lead tad to focus on getting another rebounder given the importance he placed on that part of the game.

Need a point guard.
Not so sure. Knowing Tad, I think he's betting that one of the three (Kee, KJ, JH) matures/evolves into the position next year or he'll simply do it by committee. Either of which I'm fine with given the holes that will likely be present in the front court. If Jabari leaves we need two transfer PF types and that should be the TOP priority.
