Happy Football Season!!! (Official Camp Thread)

Coleman may turn out to be a superstar. That's not really the point. Every year, we hear about some guy (usually a defensive lineman) who is just tearing it up. This goes back to the now famous Conrad Obi who was, not for one year but two, the next coming of Reggie White. Unblockable!!!! So now I pay particular attention to each years version of Conrad Obi. Last year it was Tupou.

The point is that during the Hawkins "best Tuesday practice of ALL TIME" era, people were right to be dismissive of anything coming out of spring or fall camp about who looked good and who didn't. For the most part, Macintyre and his staff don't blow smoke up anyone's asses. They play things close to the vest, but if they're pumping someone up, it usually shows up on the field that season. I feel like last year we heard about Tupou, Olugbode, and Lindsay. All three were excellent.

Jesus Christ, you people are dense. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE GUY TURNS OUT TO BE AWESOME!

We get it every year. That's the point. Sometimes the guy is great. Sometimes not. But we get it every year. There's ALWAYS somebody who is just going to be fantastic. That guy is Conrad Obi.
So you don't intend for the obvious negative connotations of the name to be part of this inside joke. okdoke then.

Relax, Trump. No need to go all caps on us. Maybe stop trying to make "Conrad Obi" happen. It's old, it's not really humorous anymore and it's completely irrelevant. All you're doing is marginalizing some deserved positive pub for a player on the team.

Back in the days when allbuffs was first formed, the Conrad Obi reference would have been mildly funny. Something light hearted to pass some time while training camp wore on. Now it's cause for WWIII.

Lighten up, folks.

Look, Kraut, if you're going to bomb Pearl Harbor, it's not going to be over quickly.

Interesting post about the strength and nutrition work during the off season. The Edwards numbers are crazy in a short period of time. Good job to him for putting the work in.

Who: NT Javier Edwards
Why: When he first arrived in January he weighed 380 pounds, 244 of that lean mass. On July 25, 2017 he weighed 354 pounds with 273 pounds of lean mass.
“What we’ve seen with Javier, it is ridiculous,” Anderson said. “When he came in he really wasn’t that fit. Training completely changed when he came here, we completely changed his nutrition and so he was able to elicit that change. The fact is he gained a tremendous amount of muscle tissue as well as losing fat at the same time.”

Thats a big boy. Looking forward to seeing him out there this year.

still at 350? Hope that backup NT is ready! Either way, encouraging results.

and some of those numbers for the skill position players are equally eye popping. I think Devin Ross's change is the craziest.

Lost 55 pounds of fat.

I know, that's insane. But he's gonna need some breathers. Last year, it was crazy how few breathers our DL got.
Yeah Tupou had his weight issues as well and was okay with it though, helps to be at altitude against the Pac-12 teams other than Utah.

Having a hard time remembering anyone HCMM talked up that was smoke. I pointed this out when he was stating that Gamboa was making plays, met on here by jeering. He is pretty calculated.

Last year he was mentioning Ross, then into camp, Bobo, many times thru the in house press.

Edwards has definitely made huge strides, keep it going big man. Snow is right though, he'll have to get some time or series off. That's still a lot of weight.

Good interview with coach after the first pads practice. Highlights:
  • Montez making big strides, especially in understanding pass protection;
  • Olver is not coming back (we don't want him back, reading between the lines), waiver is being requested to try and get the scholly back;

Olver just peaced out and coach is pissed I think.
Another mention of how good Kinney has looked. Would be nice to have a solid punter.
