I’d like to see Staub as the guy, but I think Salter could be valuable on some short yardage packages.
Why? Not pressing you, just asking earnestly here because it keeps coming up. If Staub is playing well doing what he does, why on Earth would there be a need to put Salter in just to "mix it up." Mix sh!t up with your formations and play calling. Man...

As I stated, it would be very specific short yardage situations where you need 1 or 2 yards.
It is not unusual for teams to do this with a running qb.

THiS.

we need an identity. and it needs to carry over from year to year. sure, you adjust and tweak based upon what your players do well, but you have to have a system in college ball. the upperclassman help teach and enforce the system. and so forth.

bama analysts and assistants came and went, but the offense was the offense.
I’m not sure the AJ McCarron / John Parker Wilson is the same as Tua/Hurts is the same as Mac Jones is the same as Bryce Young (although I thought Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe were the same person)

What about their D?
Always interested in the D…

Yep, until Saban made the conscious decision to completely change and go with the modern spread offense by bringing in Kiffin and continuing it with Daboll and Sark. Went from Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron type QBs to Hurts, Tua, Mac Jones, Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe.

Point is, the game has evolved and the days of a bunch of programs having really unique identities are gone. Pretty much everyone runs the same kind of offense outside of a handful of programs. "Identity" is mostly just a fancy word for "what is this team good at", and teams that are just kind of mid (like CU) are said to not have an identity.
Prime said as much today. We need a playmaker. Shedeur is a playmaker more than anything else. Staub realized to play here, you gotta develop as a playmaker. Juju will learn the same. We thought Salter would do it but he simply couldn't. Especially as a passer.

My memory isn't crystal clear, but it seems like the defense struggled through the 1st few games last year, but started jelling after the offense got more confidence and started producing more.
I'm hoping for something similar. The offense starts producing more under Staub and the defense is inspired to improve their game. I think they have all the tools necessary, but need to believe in themselves more. (and have Livingston learn how to scheme against running quarterbacks
)
The team in general kind if was “meh” all the way up through the UCF game.

We should have put 50 on CSU, but we struggled most of the game to get anything going.
