As an aside, can we all agree the problem in New York is Daboll? Dude is a horrible NFL coach.Yep, until Saban made the conscious decision to completely change and go with the modern spread offense by bringing in Kiffin and continuing it with Daboll and Sark. Went from Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron type QBs to Hurts, Tua, Mac Jones, Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe.
Point is, the game has evolved and the days of a bunch of programs having really unique identities are gone. Pretty much everyone runs the same kind of offense outside of a handful of programs. "Identity" is mostly just a fancy word for "what is this team good at", and teams that are just kind of mid (like CU) are said to not have an identity.
Juju is an inch shorter than Shedeur. Not sure if his age is influencing this narrative. He’s a legitimate 6’1) tried to replicate Shedeur wtih Salter. He's not Shedeur. Not even close.
2) Juju isn't ready. He's 17...and he's short. Worried he can't see over the O line. Maybe get some platform cleats for him
3) Staub is ready. He's the only one who has been around the program for more than a few months and he's been learning. Ready to play.
I didn't make an argument and nothing I said was subjective, actually. I was just pointing out the difference in competition that the two teams have faced through two weeks, since Houston's comfortable 2-0 record and CU's inconsistent 1-1 record seems to be playing a large role in the perception of this matchup.
CU lost to a GT team that will compete for the ACC Championship.
I'm not going to go full hokie on your subjective claim on my statement.Bolded is subjective.
Honestly not intending to jump down your throat. My point is that at the end of the day ESPN’s forecast could have us favored or not favored. It doesn’t matter. Only the game itself matters.
Haven't watched them at all, but they want to run the ball. What is the scouting report on Houston? I know next to nothing about that team. I'm just this side of @Uncle Ken who probably had to be reminded that we're now in the same conference (fvcking Big 12).
does their qb run well?Haven't watched them at all, but they want to run the ball.
Game one vs SFA - 24 passing attempts for 159 yards (he did have 3 PA TDs) to 46 rushing attempts for 191 yards (Leading rusher had 50 yards)
Game two vs Rice - 22 passing attempts for 188 yards (1 TD) to 37 rushing attempts for 207 yards (leading rusher had 132 yards and 2 TDs)
QB is a wash out from Texas A&M. Had 1-2 glory games, but was pretty mediocre the rest of the time. Can run, but not a HR threat when doing so. Two RBs who run angry. Best receiving weapon is the transfer TE. He's good. Defense lost their 3 best players to the portal. Added some decent talent, but nothing that great. What is the scouting report on Houston? Hell, as young as he is, he might not be done growing yet.Juju is an inch shorter than Shedeur. Not sure if his age is influencing this narrative. He’s a legitimate 6’
What about their D?QB is a wash out from Texas A&M. Had 1-2 glory games, but was pretty mediocre the rest of the time. Can run, but not a HR threat when doing so. Two RBs who run angry. Where they have an advantage is on the sidelines. Willie Fritz is a great coach. The Cougars will be prepared and fired up.
Well, I voted the way I did because I think Staub is gonna get us out way ahead by halftime. Houston has been flat on offense in the first half both games and their defense is not that good.87 percent in this poll seem to think 2 or more QBs play Saturday. Prime seemed to indicate a preference to roll with one in today’s presser. Absent injury or face plant by QB1, I say pick one and GO!!
TBH, on paper this should be easy money. Bubble screens, abandoning the run and multiple schemes for different QBs might say otherwise.
Meh. They have a bunch of new starters via the portal. None did all that much elsewhere. Add in the fact that their first two games were against absolutely anemic offenses and it's a bit hard to tell. Their LBs are solid. Honestly, our best bet is to let Staub go "Shedeur" on them and just start chucking it downfield. Our receivers should dominate with a decent gameplan. But...What about their D?
Yep. I get that part. Reasonable. And very well may happen.Well, I voted the way I did because I think Staub is gonna get us out way ahead by halftime. Houston has been flat on offense in the first half both games and their defense is not that good.
So I expect juju to get some playing time in the second half.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see someone who is not a QB throw a pass.
9 routes by receivers may be the best approach (yes, I watched ManningCast last night).Meh. They have a bunch of new starters via the portal. None did all that much elsewhere. So, we're going to be relying on our LBs againQB is a wash out from Texas A&M. Had 1-2 glory games, but was pretty mediocre the rest of the time. Can run, but not a HR threat when doing so. Man, I was just asking because Idk. Haven't seen them play.Meh. They have a bunch of new starters via the portal. None did all that much elsewhere. I don't give a **** if we win by a damn point. Just get it done.It is Houston Texas they will have some dudes. This game will NOT be easy
I’d like to see Staub as the guy, but I think Salter could be valuable on some short yardage packages.87 percent in this poll seem to think 2 or more QBs play Saturday. Of all the coaches to have a problem with, Jason Phillips is like last on my list. His work last year was insane9 routes by receivers may be the best approach (yes, I watched ManningCast last night).
Sometimes I get the feeling that the WR rotation gets messy, too many options, but maybe that’s me. I haven’t seen this group shine like I expected, but that may have more to do with QB play and OC than the receivers(and the WR coach).
I’d love to see one crisp drive mixing creative runs and passes with new wrinkles early vs Houston.
He made comments on WRs not practicing blocking that caught the ears of many. He had a great group and great success last year indeed.Of all the coaches to have a problem with, Jason Phillips is like last on my list. His work last year was insane
Well, wish he had the receivers work on blocking if they are gonna keep running that damn bubble screen. Actually, I liked that screen Rocket used to run back in the day.Of all the coaches to have a problem with, Jason Phillips is like last on my list. His work last year was insane
