I think we are at the point where additional attrition couldn’t do any damage. It’s not like we can get worse on defense.
well, 2/4 (or 3/5) of the starting secondary are now his guys. It's turning around quick there. Probably quicker than he wanted due to injury, but it would be nice if they started showing some development. Also interesting to that point, biggest losses are at the position that is his specialty. Maybe he sees all he needs and is willing to clean it out knowing that he will rebuild it more to his liking. Maybe...
We are going to have to play iron man football Wally.holy ****. Will we even field a team next year? Lol this is just brutal. We had no depth and fired our coach, tons of kids left. We really had no depth, everyone got injured, now the lack of depth is transferring.
it’s not like we have 4 star athletes waiting in the wings to commit to all the newly opened roster spots. I’m getting nervous now.
Just culling bad apples and underperformers. Routine and necessary in culture shift. .
There, in my opinion, is a greater chance of a Pullman repeat with folks in the locker room that have not bought in.This one I saw coming-I don't remember Callier playing at all this year. Same with Jones yesterday. As far as Maddox-If what @FlatironsBuff said in the Perry thread is true......he had to go. No coach in the country (even FHCMM) would tolerate a player demanding to start coming off an injury like that. I think we've gotta be careful here, though-we were Top 20 in the country as recently as last year, for one.....so I'd question Mel Tucker being the right guy for this job if he thinks this thing needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt, and I'd also think this could lead to more of the type of play we saw in Pullman last weekend-which could hurt recruiting.
Thinking of some more...So how much turnover have we seen since Tucker has taken over?
DB - Wigley, Blackmon, Hypolite, Kevin George, Maddox
DL/OLB - Callier, Finau
TE - Jones
Is that it to this point or am I missing anyone?
Obviously it would have been nice having Wigley, Blackmon, Maddox and Hypolite for this season to help with depth and hopefully get to a bowl game, but none of those are bad losses for the future, IMO. I liked the potential of Hypolite, and it sounds like he was doing well until he violated rules or whatever, so maybe he is a loss.
Pigs get slaughtered. Oink.I’ve done quite well betting the Buffs this year and I’m riding this wave all the way. I’m betting Mel Tucker won’t be here in 4 years.
Not. Sure. If. Serious.Just culling bad apples and underperformers. Routine and necessary in culture shift. .
That list other than Antwine, yikes.Thinking of some more...
LB - Shamar Hamilton
DB - LJ Wallace
TE - Bounds
OL - Tonz
DL - Tuiloma, Roberts, Antwine
P - Loy
So it appears for one reason or another, this program lost 16 non graduating players from the end of last years through this point. Some, like Antwine and Loy, are most likely not due to this change in expectations and accountability Tucker has brought, though.
Very serious. It’s not over either. More need to go.Not. Sure. If. Serious.
Interesting. A lot of these guys that are leaving or may leave didn't suddenly become soft, talentless whiners just because Tucker showed up with a "new attitude". I hate when fans fawn over the character and talent of recruits as they come in the door and then suddenly turn on them as they leave acting as if something is wrong with them that the previous staff didn't see.Very serious. Would you have kept Callier?Interesting. A lot of these guys that are leaving or may leave didn't suddenly become soft, talentless whiners just because Tucker showed up with a "new attitude". I guess I'd say be careful what you wish for. Frankly, we shouldn't have to burn this thing to the ground and rebuild every 4-5 years. Something's institutionally wrong if that's the case.
Losing Antwine hurt a lot but I understand his reasons for leaving and only wish the best for him. That list other than Antwine, yikes.
But who that has transferred really had the kind of talent that was going to elevate CU where we would all like them to be? Simply being the best of a horrible bunch on defense isn't good enough.Interesting. Antwine, perhaps Maddox. But who that has transferred really had the kind of talent that was going to elevate CU where we would all like them to be? Simply being the best of a horrible bunch on defense isn't good enough.
I acknowledged Hypolite was a possible bad loss, but it's not like this defense wasn't getting torched by big plays when Maddox was playing. He would have added good competition next season, but is he really a guy that was worth RS this year? Agree that Wigly could at least provide some better PT than Trujillo/Luckett at the moment.I think it is disingenuous to decry the lack of secondary depth and use it as an excuse for a 3-4 record while also saying losing Hypolite/Maddox is no big deal. Hell, Wigley was not good, but he would be good enough to give this team snaps right now as a senior.

Agreed, but Onu has arguably been the best player on defense, so if it was either/or between Hypolite and Onu for 2019, Onu is the clear choice. Obviously Hypolite would have been a possible multi-year starter going forward, so again, I agree he was a loss, but without Onu being brought in it's not like depth would have been good this year anyways.I get the Maddox situation is weird.
But Hypolite was talked about as a potential starter before he was bounced (remember Onu was brought in after that happened). And Wigley would have been gone after 2019 anyway, but he could have helped this season. I just think it is a copout to say "the secondary would be trash either way" when the margin for error for this team was always razor thin. A little bit better play might have been enough.
Plus I miss the opportunity of referring to him as Uncle Wigley.
