Howell reports Callier not listed on roster this week.

This one I saw coming-I don't remember Callier playing at all this year. Same with Jones yesterday. As far as Maddox-If what @FlatironsBuff said in the Perry thread is true......he had to go. No coach in the country (even FHCMM) would tolerate a player demanding to start coming off an injury like that. I think we've gotta be careful here, though-we were Top 20 in the country as recently as last year, for one.....so I'd question Mel Tucker being the right guy for this job if he thinks this thing needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt, and I'd also think this could lead to more of the type of play we saw in Pullman last weekend-which could hurt recruiting.

If HCMT's goal is to be the coach of a top 20 team, then he probably doesn't need to consider this a rebuild. If he has higher aspirations for this program, then he may think it's more of a rebuild than we considered. Like I said in an earlier post, I'll trust him until he's been given enough time and given us enough of a reason not to trust him.

The only thing bad about any of these guys leaving is the timing. I would guess HCMT would have rather that all three, specifically Maddox, had waited until the season was over to quit on their teammates. His only control over that seems to have been acquiescing to their childish ways. I am not sure what some of you expected him to do.

Now...can he bring in upgrades? That is a legitimate question.

What is the effect of this exodus on our recruiting numbers?
I think we'll be at 25 because we were full last year and won't be able to count back any. Transfers OTOH could be in the double digits.

I am speaking for myself here, but I wanted him to personally take the field and defeat AFA, AZ Ore and Wazzu. Is that too much to ask?

I just think there is some myopic thought around in regards to the secondary. You cannot look at all the losses there (and in recruiting as NSD approached) and think it did not have a huge negative effect on this season. Beggars cannot be choosers. Will it spell doom long-term? Not really, but at some point this program needs to ****ing win. The rationalizations get old.
I care mostly about the recruiting.

On attrition in the secondary, I was upset to lose Hypolite.

And it seems some on here forgot why Hypolite left. He was dismissed after stealing from a teammate. Unfortunate, but not like MT had a say there. Has rules, must be obeyed.

I acknowledged Hypolite was a possible bad loss, but it's not like this defense wasn't getting torched by big plays when Maddox was playing. He would have added good competition next season, but is he really a guy that was worth RS this year? Agree that Wigly could at least provide some better PT than Trujillo/Luckett at the moment.

Hypolite was kicked off the team for violating team rules, so there is not much you can do there. Suspend him for the season?? I gave HCMM props for his ability to send kids off for a season, and then have a clean slate upon meeting certain conditions. If that was not possible, then the coaches hands were tied.

Per the musings, Maddox put the staff in an impossible situation at the airport gate. I think that they gave him the option to stay home, cool off, and reconsider. I hate the timing but he portal'd as he thinks that he can immediately play somewhere else. From a player standpoint, I can't blame him for thinking there are greener pastures out there. By asking for a red-shirt without a plan to remain at CU, he essentially quit the team. Given his behavior, he was not going to be an upperclassman leader. Also, with Rakestraw's improvement I would not envision Maddox beating him out next year, or even another new player at the position.

With Wigely and Ronnie Blackmon, I think that the staff was honest with them about their chances of starting/playing a substantial role, and they opted to Portal. Stanley and KD were going to handle the returns and have done fine. To my knowledge, Wigely is not even playing football. Sure Trujillo and Luckett are getting picked on, but they are young with substantial upside. So long as they do not get significantly hurt, the experience will be a plus for this team. Dante would be getting picked on just like last season.

This new defensive scheme is tough for all the players to adjust. Of all the players that left, I thought that Callier had the most upside as an OLB, but that is a tough learning curve from the previous defense. Unfortunately, that was not going well, thus he left. Much of MT's success will be based upon recruiting, and the most important position that they need to hit home runs is LB.

As I think more about attrition, generally I hate it; but it is what it is. You can't blame guys for wanting playing time or have the propect of sitting at the bottom of the depth chart. Sometimes it moves, sometimes it does not. Akil Jones stuck it out and is finally starting. I do think players need to try and stick it out with their team. Certainly, the Transfer Portal has changed things: instead of the unknown, it is akin to a new recruitment. Teams find them, where they need specific needs (i.e. Onu). For coaches they just need to be honest in their assessment and fair to the player. I think MT and staff have done that.

Huge loss. But I'd seen a post or two elsewhere that seemed to suggest he was a guy who chose to leave.

Good thing we are absolutely killing it right now in Safety position recruiting!
Titus Toler would be nice to have right now. Good thing he wasn’t really made a priority. The DB roster management has definitely been perplexing from the start.

I was thinking the exact same thing earlier in the week. Toler would have been a huge get, perhaps Onu ended that--or he was already gone. The DB roster management was tough, their were a bunch of DBs on the roster, I think the Buffs had some good players not great ones, and not so sure how many had tons of upside. MT and staff had a ton of evaluating to do. Losing Slim next year will make things harder.

Onu was months after Toler signed with Wisconsin.

Is Toler playing at Wisconsin? I haven’t been following them this year.

Losing Antwine hurt a lot but I understand his reasons for leaving and only wish the best for him.
Loy managed to make every highlight show in the country for his absolute fail on the fake punt but he has been a P5 quality punter at Arkansas this year. Had he stayed here he wouldn't be playing though because we have a better punter.
The rest of those guys though may have struggled to break into the starting line-up at Northern Colorado.

LOL I went to UNC-and still sort of follow their program......their talent level is a lot closer to RMAC than it is Big Sky.

Unfortunately they are struggling as I have reported in the Other Games postings. If they were to play Mines or Pueblo I would probably bet on UNC losing. And some of the guys on the list would struggle to start for Pueblo or Mines.

Those two schools have a lot of players who are very good players but who are either a step slow, a few pounds too small, or some other factor that keeps them from being D1 players. Pueblo has more players in the NFL than some G5 programs do.

Read a free article earlier about Oregon State who is improving. But they mentioned how Trajon Cotton has been a bust in year 3.

We will see with time if Toler was a big loss or not. If he's a stud, I'll really have some doubts about Tucker.

There are 85 guys on scholarship, and 22 starters. Although nobody comes to CU thinking they are going to fill the 2 or 3 deep spot for most of their time there, the reality is that a lot of them will. No matter how good the program is, there are always going to be guys who would rather take a step down and play than stick around to play backup and special teams. The new redshirt rule and apparent willingness of the NCAA to grant waivers has made this a more viable option for a lot of guys, so I think this kind of thing is the new normal, and not a sign of deeper problems.

Funny how the rumor that Maddox/Tucker had this discussion on the Tarmac got started seemingly out of nothing :ROFLMAO:
