If Prime Were To Leave

It's Rick Georges fault - very condensed version.

RG pulled off the coup of the decade getting CP. Tremendous boost to the CU program, unbelievable media and public attention. We all love him. RG hit a home run

What RG didn't do was vet any of CP"s hires, make sure he was hiring competent coaches. He was caught up in the excitement and gave CP whatever he wanted.

CP has never been a real good Xs and Os coach. He needed strong fundamental support. Instead he got mostly cheerleaders

After CP took the ball in OT one game, everybody shook their heads and figured he would learn. Wrong, no one educated him and he did the same next OT game. Imo, assistants were afraid to go to CP and tell him he was wrong and why. Same with the failure to call TOs. No assistant would risk showing up the boss.

He wouldn't want to, but to help his reputation, someone needs to push the narrative that CP was out of town and suffering health wise for almost 4 months, didn't get to work with the team. Then he has to fire some people.

The reason Prime is at CU is because RG gave him the autonomy to do what he wanted. RG was never going to have authority over who he could hire (within reason of course), nor should he.

ADs who force hires on HCs or deny hires (for reasons other than university policy - lack of degree, show cause status, moral turpitude) are micromanaging and usually doing so to force the HC out the door. What you described is how RG treated Mike MacIntyre.

The idiom "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" means to discard something valuable along with something unwanted. It is a warning against rejecting an entire idea, situation, or person just because some aspects are flawed.

The "dirty bathwater" represents the bad parts of a situation (Pat Shurmur), and the "baby" represents the good parts (Deion Sanders). The saying cautions against extreme reactions that cause more harm than good. Instead of making an impulsive, wholesale rejection, one should distinguish between what is worth keeping and what should be discarded.

This will be a tough year, but Prime can clean it up in the offseason by changing the offensive coaching staff. There is a lot of young talent playing for the Buffs right now.
I don't think changes can wait until the end of the season. If the Buffs lose to Wyoming, he has to fire Shurmur immediately. If the team has one or two wins by week 8, recruits (which has been mediocre at best for 2026) and impactful transfers will not come.

Changes might be coming sooner than you think.

Since we have the thread, I'll start with some names:
Shannon Dawson - OC at Miami
Jeff Nixon - OC at Syracuse
Rashad Samples - Assistant Head Coach/RB coach at Oregon
Jon Sumrall - Head Coach at Tulane
Brian Hartline - OC at Ohio State
Will Stein - OC at Oregon
D'Anton Lynn - DC at USC

Probably better use of time to speculate on new OCs (although your list is in the spirit of the thread topic).

When Prime goes 4-8 in year 3, and he’s making top 5 dollars, RG has leverage to tighten the screws a bit on staff and system.

No he doesn’t. Prime doesn’t need the money and if RG upsets the apple cart, he can simply walk away, leaving CU with a major talent drain and RG having to go hire yet another coach. Prime gets to see this through under his terms. Besides, why does anyone think RG is going to suggest better coaches?

CU is in an infinitely better position to attract a great coach. And it’s clearly willing to throw around top 10 money.

A lot of this has to do with Saliman. As long as he is here, CU has the institutional support and $ to be a top 25 program.

I agree, but how much of that willingness to pay top 10 $$$ is because of what Prime has done for the university and AD financially. They aren’t going to pay every coach $10m/year.

I am a little disappointed with the recruiting. If CP would go to some of these top recruits homes? that would be huge. As time goes along he will slowly lose that attraction. This 26 cycle seems lazy and if the HOF coaches don't go recruiting then what's the point?

I personally believe losing Damione Lewis on the DL has been a big issue. If Hart is going to be replaced, the OL coaching has to be addressed as well as the leader of the group (White) has no experience and it is a "3 headed monster" that has nothing to show for itself. I do realize playcalling is part and parcel for the line to perfom.

Shurmur has to be on the hot seat after Friday-especially with Leftwich (I think) here as an analyst or whatever he does.
