Just indulge me for a moment here, what if Erickson and Helfrich are tampering, and he's pissed at Neuweasle for tampering? but the kid wants to be close to home, what do you do?

Not really, the scuttle has been that Erickson or the ASU QB is trying to get him to move.
He was clearly a Helfrich guy so like when Keisau left Cal he maybe talking to his own players, Kiesau was nice enough to talk D. Jackson and Lynch into staying at Cal and not following him, maybe Helfrish is less of a stand up guy.
And we all hate Skippy he has to share some blame, maybe he has Kai talking to JS?
That is still a lot of speculation.

Naive is when somebody assumes they have all the facts when they don't. Childish is when a tantrum is thrown that includes name calling.
A debate suffers when naive and childish behavior takes center stage.
CU does come off looking petty at worst. At best, CU is providing a message regarding the sanctity of the LOI contract and a hard lesson about the consequences that come with reneging from one's commitments to the school or the team.
The fact is that Josh has made some choices, including a decision to look for greener pastures. It's not clear, however, whether Josh is leaving CU to pursue music production, or to play football.
Either way, both CU and Josh made what could have been a private matter and turned it into mess. The irrelevant scum on the interwebs make stuff up because speculation happens in the absense of facts.

Let's face it, this whole discussion is speculation. It is speculation to say schools were tampering with JS. It is speculation to say that Hawk and Bohn are just being assholes. It is speculation to say that JS isn't really going due to academics or that his appeal was based on his desire to go someplace where getting a schollie would be easier. All we can do is try to read the signs and figure out what is most likely happening... :huh:

because if they didn't, you wouldn't have anything to whine about. why not take your energies and help josh out by showing him how to fill out a financial aid form?
loans have not killed thousands of people across america, and i doubt they will beat down a determined young man.

you confuse petty with a realistic outlook. what i have said is a statement of fact. it comes from the standpoint that accepts the fact that there are consequences for every action you make. that is the way the world works.
you seem to be alone in taking this argument to the extreme which would indicate that young men and women are at a detriment when they must stand on their own two feet.
josh put on his big boy pants and made a decision. i wish him all the luck in his future endeavors. i am going to trust that he knew exactly what he was getting into when he made that big boy decision. josh was in a position to know exactly what was expected of him as a member of the buffalo football team, and does not need you trying to mommy him.
and yes - one IS expected to hold up their end of the bargain when entering a contract. plenty of entities are probably in the position to waive off a contract or two. to carry on when they do not is naive. i guarantee you that in your lifetime, you will require the security that contracts you enter are honored. it is perhaps time to think long and hard about that.
Again, I've seen no reason from you, lady, on why we shouldn't release Smith. Your only argument has been that many other kids have to pay for college, so why shouldn't Smith.

Why can't anyone on this board think of any other coach that has granted a release from a player to only one school? If CU is so in the right, why haven't other coaches been doing this?

Not true, if you read the whole story, they are saying he'll go to USC, stay at CU or pay his own way somewhere. They just pulled the "limited to USC clause" out to its fullest meaning.
Josh made a decision but the reaction to his decision was pretty unprecedented. So, to say that he knew exactly what he was getting into when he made the decision doesn't make much sense to me. When one makes a decision, one usually thinks of the probable outcomes of the decision. In this instance, I doubt that Josh figured only being released to one team was a probable outcome as it is a result has never been seen before at CU or anywhere else.
You are partially correct - I choose not to melt down over this incident because I realize that in no way has CU prevented Josh from realizing a happy, productive future. There are means out there, and it comes down to what he has on the inside. I would rather hope that he has what it takes.
So his future is not subsidized by scholarship, you whine. Whooptie-freeking-do. As I mentioned before, JOSH made a big boy decision. Guess what? People who know far more about this situation made theirs regarding whether to release him or not, and the conditions under which that will be allowed.
Since neither you or I know Jack Crap about what all is going on, neither of us is in a position to criticize the University OR Josh for particulars, IMHO. If you are set on taking the stance that the sky is falling, go right on ahead.
being granted NO RELEASE is fairly common as well. it is a possibility he should have been prepared for. in fact, if it were me, it is the possibility i would BANK on, to avoid disappointment.

It isn't like he was wavering during the year and after the season tells the staff that he isn't happy. He continued living the lie for another six months.
Here is the lesson to all you buff kids that support JFly: If you are having second thoughts, man the **** up and tell your boss. Don't be a little bitch and get a bunch of benefits knowing all the time you are going to split. Just man the **** up and tell your boss you are leaving.
