Montez vs. Noyer

And deliver on the field or are made to look like idiots. If you are going public with your bravado, then you had better deliver. Brees, Rogers, Brady, Elway, Montana....quiet confidence. Deliver in the clutch. Not many loud mouths out there succeed....
Dude.

Rodgers, Brady, and Elway had/have "quiet" confidence? Wut?
R.E.L.A.X.

Quiet confidence in telling an entire fan base to shut up. :ROFLMAO:.

Anyway, Montez needs to get into the film room. Or figure out what he's doing wrong in the film room if he's in there. Because the coaches aren't even making you read between the lines right now on what his issue is in their minds. "work on his craft" can only be said so many different ways.

Didn't Elway throw a fit about the team he was drafted to before he played an NFL down? A real quiet leader there.
Lol...he was to be the number one pick in the draft. One of the greatest college players EVER. Delivered on the field and he didn't want to go to Indy. That year, he was the best player in college FB...

Montez has a cannon, can launch it a long ways in a hurry. Where it comes down is the issue right now.

Went back an looked at a couple of the games last year. I'm not a QB coach, not even close, but it looked like he was doing a much better job of setting and throwing last season, his feet were set, his body movement and follow through were much more consistent and lined up.

This season he looks like a thrower instead of a passer. His feet aren't set, his shoulders are aligned differently, even from the pocket he is throwing like he is on the run.

He also looks like he is locked on to specific receivers and doesn't trust himself to come off.

Why is speculation. A part of it is poor line play. He hasn't had time to get comfortable and set, read, and pass (not throw) often enough to get comfortable or in a rhythm. The other part is that the coaches haven't seemed to give him stuff that would build his confidence and get him going. He hits a big pass and we immediately run twice up the middle leaving him in third and long again. We don't play action on first down or on short yardage to gain situations and we don't use the middle of the field for easy throws and gains. Watch how often Lil Mac is open for a nice positive pick-up but the play is directed outside the hashes and deeper for a low percentage play.

I think Montez could have a great future for us but he and the coaches need to get it together. It might be helpful to give Noyer a game or two just to give him a chance to step back, get healthy, and most importantly to get his thoughts back together and figure out what he needs to do to be effective.

When did it become normal for a football player to join a frat? I don't think football players have the time, nor do they have the need to have a "fraternity of brothers". That's called your team! There's your fraternity. Did something change in this regard? I can't even picture Sefo in a fraternity. Did I miss something?

Not super related to Montez, but it used to be very common for black players to join black fraternities; you have probably seen a lot of guys throwing up the sign for Omega Psi Phi over the years, but probably did not realize what they were doing. Black fraternity culture is not as prevalent in Boulder, so maybe not as common at CU.

I saw guys do it, pretty sure Bienemy was one of them.

No - I was familiar with that, but it was pretty much zero time commitment, and they didn't really act as a fraternity in the truest sense. Montez talking about his frat brothers was a red flag and I'm uncomfortable about it. What do you need a 2nd fraternity for? You're already the leader of one.

I can understand black athletes participating in a black fraternity that provides a black community and support system that those students wouldn't otherwise have. Other than that exception, I completely agree. There is just too much demanded of student athletes. Your just not 100% committed to leading an NCAA football team if you are doing all these other things. So IF Montez joined a frat he shouldn't be our starter. That would mean that being a student and leading a competitive P5 football team isn't his priority.

You are assuming he lives in the fraternity house and participates in all fraternity activities without special exception when you draw that line in the sand, correct?

being a member of a fraternity at a P5 school is very rare for any sport...the only people I recall being in one were Golf or Tennis, and maybe a few track runners

anyone in a primary sport like football, basketball, and baseball, has so much going on that even a superficial membership seems unnecessary...when your QB goes so far as to throw up a frat sign while celebrating a TD against Texas State, then continues to play poorly and show a lack of focus, I think some questions are valid

What players do in their spare time is none of my damn business. As long as they keep it 100 with what they need to be doing on the field and off, live it up imho.

I would agree with this except that being a scholarship athlete, especially in a revenue sport, involves a much higher level of commitment than being a normal student.

@8Jah hit it on the head. For some students like some African-American students on predominantly white campuses or students who come out of family backgrounds that don't include college the support of a frat may be a benefit.

For the most part though for scholarship athletes already have enough on their plates with the demands of school and their sport. They don't need another distraction or obligation like a frat.

Accepting the scholarship to play football says you are willing to make those two things your priorities, truth is you shouldn't have a lot of spare time if you are a varsity athlete.

which player joined a frat?

no, not normal. fvcking egregious, if true.

I'm just saying take care of business with what got them there, in the classroom, on the field, no getting in trouble. It's not my place to comment on any racial type thing whether it's just a frat or not.

To me even going to a frat party is too much for a starting QB, or any scholarship athlete for that matter. You represent your team and the university at a high level.

The job of a leader, especially a public one, doesn't stop once practice is over. You get to chose if you want to be a leader or not, but once chosen, that job never ends.

LOL man I don't know how long it's been since you've been to college but athletes party all the time. Going out before being 21 and once turning 21 I saw football players all the time. You can't expect an 18-22 year old kid to go to college and never have fun outside of their sport c'mon. In a lot of cases, athletes party more than the average student. If you think it impedes just CU it has been a loooooooong time since you were in college or maybe you just didn't go out much which isn't a bad thing. Just means you don't realize how much college kids, athlete or not, party.

I was an athlete and it has been a while, but I don't think its really changed. I'm sure everybodys still told this in one way or another. Your under a microscope. Girls and parties: have discretion with both because that is where everything goes wrong.

Don't visit frat or random house parties. Hang out with your teammates or go out to a bar discretely.

Also, if you can party like a regular student during the season and make it through practice the next day, then you aren't practicing hard enough. Thats why its the backups and affiliates you see.

I asked on another thread whether or not our WR’s were getting open because I wanted to see if Montez is making reads. Pretty much everyone seem to feel like they are getting open. Given that I can see why he has had his a•• chewed and I have serious questions about his coachability.

Something the to effect of, "So much disrespect out there right now" with a crying laughing emoji and a few others. He also tweeted the below out in response to Howell's Tweet about the QB competition being open this week. It just feels like he thinks this is still Spring and Fall camp or that losing games and playing poorly isn't as important as putting on this "confident" front.

What does that tweet even mean? Social media makes me feel old

At least Montez knows his frat bros will support him regardless - unlike many fans
