Montez vs. Noyer

Lytle will be our starter next season going forward. Until then, we’ve got to do a better job calling plays in a evolving offensive scheme that is tailored to the strengths of whomever they choose to be QB. So far, we’ve tried to impose the offense on the QB. That’s been an abject failure.

Of course, because he had the most stars out of high school. Did I get that right?

Shouldn't we at least let Noyer play more than 1/2 of a game before we write him off too?

Folks, Lindgren is the QB coach. Tell me what specific improvements Sefo made during the past 4 years? I was cringing at the Combine watching him throw so inaccurately to the receivers trying to make a team's draft board. Sefo had no mechanics and not enough QB skills. The main skill that neither Sefo or Montez have is solid ball fakes! That should be trained over and over and sold to the defense especially with such a stud RB. Sefo courageously willed his way to being a statistics and effort QB, but he was brutal! Montez was probably barely coached last year or the year before and Steven was best as an improv guy. Now that he is getting the amazing coaching of Lindgren full time, he is regressing. I also cannot stand that Lindgren is up in the box and SM has to make a phone call on a 1975 telephone to learn what he did wrong. No sit down, no tablet, no printouts, nothing. Yes, I know there is film study, but maybe he needs help after each series. Our QB's never have ball fakes, no back shoulder throws, no smart jump balls, etc. I think Montez could be an NFL stud, but our QB Coach/Offensive Coordinator will hold him back. The offense should have been built for SM from the beginning with play fakes, RPO, rollouts, half field reads with long to short choices. So many ways to make him successful and I only see the same lame offense that has these slow, long, solo routes that he is supposed to read in 2 seconds. Nobody would succeed in this JV offense, nobody!

I just want to win, I think Montez is the best option, but I am willing to give Noyer a chance if we win, but I know that Lindgren will not help CU succeed.

Stars matter, although I don’t see that as the reason. Lytle has the most upside for the skill set given what the current coaching staff is seeking from a QB. For better or for worse, they’ve tried to make Montez into a player he is not. Montez still has, as Jeremy Bloom put it, “high school feet”. His throwing mechanics make him an erratic passer for difficult pocket throws. I’ve consistently advocated that we adjust the playcalling to suit Montez. They won’t change. Noyer may have a shot but I do believe Lytle’s talent will shine through in the spring to win him the job.

Like others, I’d like for Montez to continue as the man. This helps us have mature starters each year at QB. I just don’t see it given Montez’s stagnation this year and inability to become the team’s leader.

Of course, because he had the most stars out of high school. Did I get that right?

Sefo was better at making reads (both passing and zone read) as a senior than he was in previous years. Not even debatable.

Suddenly Sefo was a talented QB being held back by Lindgren?:ROFLMAO:
He was about as perfect as you could get his senior year in the RPO. It really proved to me that you can be very successful in the RPO offense if your QB understands this completely, even without a ton of ability.

I'm pretty sure the announcers said in the CU-CSU game that Sefo had hired a private qb coach in the offseason. I mean, if I remember that correctly, it would definitely explain why he suddenly seemed to not suck as much during his senior season

Sefo worked with a private QB coach for at least 3 different periods of time. That wasn't it.

practice/weight room champions that never transfer ability to field on Saturdays.

The problem is between the ears mostly.

Who is the African American gentleman that works with qbs? I forget his name. Could he be hired or does he just do the camps?

I'm 100% behind Steven (and that matters!). He's 8 games? 9 games? into his career, and he's had some very good games. He'll improve. I thought he played very well in both the Arizona & Oregon St games, particularly in the 2nd halves. It's disheartening to me to see how quickly some folks turn on him, especially when it appeared the entire team was in total disarray against wazoo.

Go Steven!!

Everyone still wants Montez to succeed and we all see the physical gifts but let’s not act like it’s just us who are worried, the coaches benched him after all.

I'm 100% behind Steven. I'd also like to know if there's any truth to the vague rumors that he was concussed in the Oregon St game.

He definitely got his bell rung on the TD pass he caught from Bobo. His head hit the turf after the catch and he wanted no part of the TD celebration that his teammates assumed was next. Not sure if it was a concussion but he was definitely stunned for a bit.

I was sitting right behind the bench, a couple rows up for that game. Right after that catch, they were testing him for concussion (I thought I saw smelling salts, also?), and Noyer was warming up.

It's not like he was playing so well in that game that he couldn't have been taken out a series or three. I assume he was dinged but ok.

Concussions are so tricky, and I am pretty darn sure he had one. Concussion symptoms come back when you get your blood pumping and your heart rate is higher. As the first half went along, he looked very confused and could not get his concentration. Combine that with bad weather that he probably had not faced that often, and the recipe was a crappy game. Hindsight 20/20 it was the right thing to take him out and let him sit especially if he is recovering from a concussion. BUT, a QB competition is the BS way to handle this week. Stand by him, let him get straight, and then run with him this week. If, he struggles again under ideal conditions, then a competition is OK. I think that MM and the staff are going modern political trickery and using the QB competition to distract from the crap the coaches have been pulling. Mac's tirade and Lindgren's piss poor coaching were forgotten this week while we had to focus on a QB competition. The weather looks perfect today, and I expect Montez to have his head on straight. Now it will depend on the play calls of Lindgren only.

Montez played how he should, nice job today.

...in my opinion needs to not read social media though, if he wants to survive as a public figure. And needs to lay off the “shout outs” and frat signs. But I don’t care one iota as long as he plays well. Which he did.
