So whats the deal? 2 Years removed the injury, played in Spring (looked real good) and now with the 3's? Did he have a set back that wasnt announced?

Every word we have gotten is that there wasn't a setback, but that they are taking things slowly and carefully. That the spring showcase probably set an unrealistic expectation for fans. iirc, Kaiser was held out that day for whatever reason.

missed Sr season and a red shirt year....still hurt?
He is reported to have had a nerve issue as a result of the knee injury. He has not been re-injured, but the nerve damage has caused his recovery time to be much longer than anticipated.

By all accounts he is past this issue, and the staff is being very cautious with him. They know what kind of player he CAN be. They want to make sure he gets there.

Hard to argue with a conservative strategy that is aimed at avoiding additional setbacks.

The kid's long term future as a Buff and his personal health the rest of his life after leaving CU are more important than anything to be gained by rushing him along and getting him into action a few games or even a big chunk of a season earlier.

I'm not a doctor and have no knowledge of his specific medical situation but if CU is being cautious with players futures I support that fully.

Running him with 1s during the Spring Showcase was just for show and, indeed, set unrealistic expectations.

Starts vs CSU: 5 percent
Starts first conference game: 35 percent
Does not play this year: 60 percent

Subject to revision tomorrow if he can sustain engagement, drive on his toes and keep balance.

The setbacks are pretty well known. The initial ACL injury is only part of the story.
Sure, but I think it's logical to assume that after more than 2 years, he should be as healthy as he's going to get. Unless the setbacks you speak of occurred recently?
If there's been no further setbacks since Spring (which would be news if there had been), I think it's reasonable to assume he would have been full go this fall.

He fully participated in the Spring showcase with live contact. Sure seems reasonable that he'd be as ready as he's going to get for this fall.

The setbacks were last summer/fall, so it means it has been more like a year (or less). Of course he could get healthier/more confident if that is the timeline everyone uses.

I thought the whole situation had been more or less hashed out. Why are people acting like the setbacks are news?

He was “featured” in Spring Showcase and, as Nik noted, expectations got out of hand.

That was a mistake.

Why would he be featured in a live scrimmage if he wasn't as far back as he was going to get? Or good enough to at least be full go this fall?

He wasn’t trotted out there and shown off like some prize possession. He was put out there because he was fully cleared for live contact. He is “full go” in Fall Camp. Maybe he still has some physical limitations that they are working through, but let’s stop with this “featured” talk and how it was a mistake because of expectations.

I think he plays this year, but I remember some article talking about how much he has to deal with his knee post game. It likely has nerve or fluid issues, and that is sad to hear. I pray he can get totally over it, or he will have never realized his potential, and he will have a miserable "Real Life" after football is over with arthritis and other annoying knee problems, including a replacement. I think he has NFL potential without a doubt, and I will sacrifice a little to make sure he gets right.

Why did he get first snap with 1s - and limited ones - then to the sideline and put at 3rd on depth chart afterward? What was the reason for that. I have yet to hear a good explanation in light of his physical limitations. Maybe you have one. I don’t.

It was “not a mistake because of expectations.” It was a mistake because it set expectations along with MM’s post-Showcase comments.

I don’t know the entire series of events that surrounded what you’re talking about, but I can assure you that no coach is putting a kid who isn’t ready at risk by playing him, just because he wants to “feature” said player. Maybe he has some physical limitations that showed up in live action, and he wasn’t quite as ready as they thought he would be?

He is cleared to play. No doubt. He was not a #1 by any stretch of the imagination from what I saw this spring. He should not have been running with the 1s when he was three on the depth chart. No reason for that. Sent wrong signal. Set wrong expectations. That’s all.

I think people are really over reacting. He very well may have been held out of a lot of team drills last Saturday for precautionary reasons because like I said last weekend, he was the second string left tackle in individual drills Adams was running.
