#5 seed and #17 ranked (in both major polls) Women's basketball (23-9 overall; 11-7 in conference play) aims to advance to their 2nd straight Sweet 16, and to do so they'll once again have to do it on the road with a hostile crowd***, this time in Manhattan, Kansas against the #4 seed and #15 (media poll) / #16 (coaches' poll) ranked Kansas State Wildcats (KSU; 26-7 overall, 13-5 in the Big 12). The game will be at the Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas, with the tipoff scheduled for noon MT.

The game is the 1st scheduled for the day to be shown on ESPN itself, so hopefully (???) should start on time. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this post. The very 1st game of the day is North Carolina vs. South Carolina, and is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM MT on ABC.)

A couple notes:

(1) Not that they matter at all anymore, but in the last (pre-tournament selection) NET rankings (dated 3/17), CU was #16 and KSU #15 .

(2) Unlike Friday, It looks like there could be slight time overlap with the CU men's game, with it scheduled to start 1 hour 50 minutes(at 10:10 AM MT) before the women's game noon tipoff.

(
***For those who don't remember or are newer fans, this veteran CU team shouldn't be intimidated @ KSU, as it was just about a year ago that the Buffs went into Cameron Indoor and won 2 games to advance as a #6 seed. This included (on March 20th, 2023) defeating the #3 seed Blue Devils in a MAJOR overtime 2nd round nail biter by a 61-53 score.

Per an article recap I found for the K State - Portland game for yesterday (Friday; https://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article287012105.html), that game had their largest attendance of the year, 9,642, and I would GUESS Sunday's will be just as large if not larger. (Per a quick Google search, Bramlage's capacity is 12,528.)
)

Go Buffs!!!

Game notes -

I don't understand why the NCAA scheduled games so the men's game won't be over when the women's team starts. I can't be the only fan who would like to watch both games.

We can beat Kansas State if they play like they did last night. Angry Jaylyn has to keep showing up. She is a great player. Love when 4 players score in double figures. That is the team that did so well in the Pac 12 early in the season. That is the team that has to show up if they want to go to the Sweet Sixteen.

Go Buffs beat those Manhattan Mildcats! The only school that I want to see CU beat more than KSU is the Nubs.

No. 17 Colorado Set for Matchup with Old Foe KSU

Buffs and Wildcats meet for the first time since 2011

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

MANHATTAN, Kan. –
The Colorado women's basketball team got back on the court Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum on the eve of its second-round matchup with fourth-seeded and 15th-ranked Kansas State. The Buffaloes will take on the Wildcats on Sunday (Noon MT/ESPN) for a chance at a second consecutive Sweet 16.

The 5th-seeded Buffs (23-9) took care of business in the first round, dispatching Drake 86-72 on Friday. Now the team will turn the page and face KSU (26-7) for the first time since 2011.

The quick turnaround is nothing new for the Buffs. Colorado and the rest of the Pac-12 Conference have the identical Friday - Sunday schedule throughout the season that the Buffs have in the first and second rounds this weekend. CU has three two-game weekend sweeps this season in conference play, providing a comfortability of sorts.
"I think from personal experience I guess the last couple years playing in a conference [the Big 10] that didn't play Friday-Sunday and then having to come to a tournament that is Friday-Sunday where you only have one day of prep in between, this year with the Pac-12 having that experience I personally do think is an advantage because you're more used to recovering and getting your body ready, getting your mind right, and the coaches kind of know what to do within this one day of prep versus having two or three," graduate Maddie Nolan commented.

Bramlage Coliseum saw 9.642 fans come through the doors on Friday, almost all clad in purple to support the host Wildcats in their opening game against Portland. The same sellout crowd is expected to attend on Sunday, but playing in front of a hostile crowd is not something the Buffs will be fazed by. CU was in a similar position against Duke in the second round of last year's tournament and has played in multiple tough venues across the Pac-12.

"By far the best atmosphere is in Boulder at the Event Center," head coach JR Payne noted. "We've had great crowds all year long at home. That's been really incredible. Everywhere honestly in the Pac-12 has been really good this year. Corvallis for Oregon State has historically been great. They'll sell out a lot of games. USC was a great environment this year. Oregon always has big crowds, UCLA was a great crowd, Arizona always sells out. Lots of really tough environments we've played in."

The Wildcats hold a 35-33 series lead over the Buffs, as the two schools were former and are about to become conference rivals again. The extended stay in Manhattan has been a kind of re-orientation into the Big 12 for Payne and the Buffs.

"At first when we realized we weren't hosting -- we were really excited to be in the tournament but really disappointed we'd put ourselves in the position not to host," Payne recalled from Selection Sunday. "But then about five minutes later, I was like, this is awesome, we're getting a taste of Big 12 Country, not just the game and the arena but the community and all of that.

So it really is a great opportunity to play a Big 12 team, play in the arena, get comfortable in this space so that next year maybe this will be the one Big 12 team that doesn't feel brand new next year when we play."

Brenda VanLengen and Holly Warlick will be back on the call for ESPN.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will have the call courtside on the Colorado Radio Network. Coverage will start on the Varsity app and AM 630 before shifting over the 850 KOA and 94.1 FM following the conclusion of the Colorado men's game.

And, a Buffzone / Brian Howell article -

______________________________________________________________________________________

Note - Looking at the tourney overall after the 1st round, it's been very much "chalk" so far, as Mr. Howell's tweet below indicates. Arizona is the only Pac 12 team out, and as a #11 seed that had to play a "1st 4" game a couple day ago, they equated themselves well, having one of the closest 1st round games in only losing by 5 to #6 seed Syracuse. The Utes (also a 5 seed) joined the Buffs by "only" winning their game by 14, while OSU won by 21 and the remaining Pac teams (Stanford, USC And UCLA) all won by 29 or more.

(The only favored team (at least by seeding) that lost in the 1st round was #6 Louisville, who lost by 2 to #11 Middle Tennessee.)

Should be a great game. Vonleh is matched up with a 6' 6" center. I hope we are hot from 3, as usual.

We shall win. We will win.

Friday I wore my Wetta shirt. Today I am wearing my Sherrod shirt.

Victory is near.

I am happy to see the Pac 12 representing the end days of the conference so well. I also want Iowa State to beat Stanford. Love me some Audi Crooks and she will give us problems.

....
DVR is the answer to this problem

They can’t overturn the original foul call but that was bull****. These officials suck.
