NFL combine

As a Decathlete, Oliver is going to crush the underwear Olympics and cement himself as a 1st round pick.

I hope that Oliver chooses to participate in the CU pro day as well. With his status as a potential (probable) first round pick he will bring more scouts to boulder who will then also take a look at the other eligible CU players giving them a better chance to get drafted or have more options as UFAs.

Last year we had almost every team represented with scouts in Boulder. Last year we had players from the entire region come and with the Champions center the CU pro day could become almost a kind of super regional event for the scouts. Players from CU, CSU, Wyoming, and all the regional lower division schools.

I understand what you’re saying but I would t if I was him. That Washington dB had high first rd locked up last year and had a blow out at his pro day. First rd pick does more for the Program than anything. If the other guys like Phil take care of business the scouts will find them.

Don't disagree with what you are saying. Oliver is going to perform well enough no matter where he runs that he will end up high on the boards.

I don't think the chances of getting hurt are all that significant though. He can choose which activities he chooses to participate in at the pro day as well. The biggest thing it may do for him is give him an additional time to interact with the scouts and PP staffs beyond what is available at the combine.

The scouts will show up either way but if Oliver is participating we may see more of them and/or more of the front line scouts instead of the lower level guys.

Can’t believe Taz wasn’t invited to the combine. But he’ll prove them wrong

One thing that happened at the All Star game with PL was that while he ran really hard, like he always will, he did not look like he had a feel for making smart decisions when presented with immediate pressure. I wish he could go and play with Leveon Bell and learn a little more visual patience before he hits the jets and runs his ass off through the hole. He also looked pretty small overall compared to all the players, and the staff did not use him as a scat back, which is his one and only chance to make it to the NFL besides Special Teams. Then when he was on punt return as the returner (which I am pretty sure he has never done, but he was on kickoff returns) he looked lost. He would be a great ST player like he was his younger years at CU, but he will have to fight like crazy to make an NFL team, likely as a UFA. Never count PL out, but he has to fight again for everything he might want.

If Rex Burkhead is an NFL running back, then I have trouble believing that Phillip Lindsay is not. Very similar size and all purpose skills with great burst & change of direction. Burkhead ran a 4.73 forty, though, and I believe that Phil is a couple tenths faster than that.

Buffs list PL at 5'8" 190 lbs. Burkhead listed as 5'10" 210 lbs. Danny Woodhead is the closer comparison and that's how Phil will have to be used.

On height, but I don't know where else they compare. Woodhead can't block pass rushers and ran a 4.33 forty. His game doesn't remind me of Phil's at all.

Phil's the kind of guy that somehow ends up on the Patriots' roster. Tons of heart, versatile, selfless.

Dammit.

They compare similarly in the overall size department with Woodhead being listed a little heavier, but neither will ever be the lead back, and both are best suited as the 3rd down or change of pace back. They both do well catching the ball out of the backfield and that is where their primary value is in the NFL. Woodhead started his career as a ST guy, too, which is where Lindsay is going to earn his spot on an NFL roster. Yes, Woodhead ran a faster 40 in shorts than PL will run and Phil might block a little better than Woodhead (although that remains to be seen at the NFL level), but from an NFL standpoint, they profile as similar role players on a team.

Phillip can do anything he puts his mind to, but it is an uphill battle based on not being invited to the combine considering his production. If the XFL actually comes together, PL could be a legend in a league like that, and also go and become a police officer in that town. Unfortunately 30 other RB were invited to the Combine, many of whom were even backups that had very little production. This means that the combined opinion of all the NFL Scouting Departments does not have PL as a drafted RB???
