I don't think he is thinking that. People in his position at the top of a profession for many years, revered and adulated, just get into a mental box from their own celebrity. They really believe in their press as reality and just don't want to consider other possibilities. This has happened so often, in religion, in politics, in entertainment, that we constantly have to consider different perspectives. A guy like Paterno to still be coaching at age 84 knows only one thing. And he probably won't live long after he is pushed out the door. Bear Bryant did it the right way in my opinion, at age 69, and didn't live long after. These coaches don't have a clue about the world outside of football. Someone wrote back when Libya was in the news during the Reagan administration that Joe Gibbs when asked a question about Libya didn't have a clue where or what it was.
