Official 2017 Coaching Carousel Thread - Zona hires Sumlin

LSU is bankrupt. The state is in bad shape as well. They won't get a lot of support on the buyout unless they have boosters pay for it all, which very well could happen.

Because of the political situation they may not be able to do it even if boosters are willing to come up with 100%. LSU football is big down there but spending that many millions on two different fired coaches plus paying another new one would be a hard sell as they are cutting big chunks out of the university budget.

any hot seat list that doesnt start with a guy who just got blanked by uga at home is incomplete

bama's next four opponents: a&m, arkansas, tennessee, lsu

they could be getting four coaches fired
I thought we all came to the conclusion he was already gone.

Jimbo is getting exposed, a hot seat list isn't a list of guys getting fired, it's a list of guys who need to coach their asses off to get off the hot seat.

Back to Jimbo, he and FSU will be in decline, not reaching potential with their talent, etc. I'm not saying he is getting fired, but his seat is starting to warm. Just watch as they slip to Texas level mediocre.

You are probably right.

Another factor in the FSU situation. Their boosters have a pretty inflated opinion of their place in the college football world. To have another team from their conference winning an NC and looking to be a serious contender for another one will likely add to the expected results.

Still he would need a couple of disaster level seasons for the pressure to be real.

What is the basis of the assertions in this post?

The fans at FSU fancy themselves to be on the same level as Alabama. Under Bowden, they were. Under Fisher, they are a step below. Being a step below Alabama is still a really good place, but it might not be enough, long term, for the boosters at Tallahassee. I could see some people losing their patience their pretty soon if they don't end up in the playoffs in the next year or two.

I am a Florida fan and I think FSU fans have a very good grasp on their program and their potential. No matter if you are a top tier program or not, when you have a top flight coach and recruit well the expectations are going to be high, that doesn't mean they see their program at alabamas level.

yeah, what sacky describes sounds like the sec west disease. symptoms are commonly found around auburn, al and baton rouge, la around fall time.

Jimbo should have made changes to the coaching staff but he's been loyal to guys that aren't good, mainly Rick Trickett.

Him being on a hot seat is hilarious though.

This,

And Clemson winning an NC makes at least some of them think "It should be us from our league."

Realistic isn't always a characteristic of fans, especially fans of programs that have have success.

I have never got the sense the FSU fan base is wholly delusional about their place either. The expectations are high... but why shouldn't they be? We are talking about a program who single-handedly propped up the ACC in football for two decades.

Fisher has like eight years left on his contract. It would take FSU tanking for 4-5 seasons for his job to be in any jeopardy. As it is, they have dominated Florida and Miami under Fisher. That goes a long way.

you guys realise fisher and fsu broke the sec title streak and have one of the longest win streaks in modern college football history, right?

The FSU fans that want Fisher fired are also Dolphins fans that are wanting Gase fired. They're idiots.

No way the FSU admin is even considering firing Fisher.

When Jimbo came out of the gate and won a Natty, he was the hottest thing going. But I pointed out awhile ago that I don't think they are holding up and have not been as good as their recruiting would suggest. Strangely, he's been a QB away in most cases. Not on the hot seat by any means, but not a top couple head coaches either (at least thus far).

I don't really think LSU was wrong in taking a risk on Orgeron, but what were they doing guaranteeing him all that money. He had no HC track record to go on and he would have taken less of a buyout. Just saying...

We've got our first job opening. Not a surprise to me. UTEP is easily the worst football team I've watched this year.

I can't remember which game it was that I saw UTEP, but he seemed clueless and along the lines of a Pelini. Seemed like a loose cannon, so not surprised it came this early.

Article in the Omaha Weird Herald today about the potential cat and mouse game that could be played between Nerbaska and others like Tennessee for Scott Frost. Say what you want, but Frost is a very good coach and if he goes 11-1 this year, he is one of the hottest commodities out there. The issue is that Nebraska has to decide on Riley, and then go all in on Frost or else someone like Tennessee would jump on him and pay him $3 million to coach the very team he beat for the National Title. I hate Frost and every other Husker QB, but he was destined to be a coach. His parents were coaches. He always had a good relationship with Bill Walsh. He spent time with Chip Kelly, which is helpful, and he can flat out recruit. Funny thing is that most people believe that coaching at UCF is better than Nebraska because he can recruit 80 kids within 2 hours of campus to run his offense. He had been quoted as saying it was "Hard to recruit to Eugene", imagine the scale of how hard it is to recruit to Stinkin Lincoln. Not likely to get 40 Florida kids chilling in the cornhusker state in the winter! Interesting to see what happens. Like to have chaos either way the next two years we play them!

I think Nebraska should go defense with this hire and then bring in a pro style OC with experience developing big, physical offensive lines. Seems like a spread guy like frost will always struggle against Ohio state, Michigan and Wisconsin.
