I also think CSU has a real recruiting footprint issue. Bobo leaned heavily to the southeast with his Georgia roots. Adazzio has recruited almost exclusively in Mass, Rhode Island, NY, Jersey, and Maryland for his tenure at BC. Zero focus on the west in a long time, which seems like it will continue.

Also odd that they went with an offensive coach, when the problems were more on the defensive side of the ball.
Recent problems were more offensive. Their D had really improved and they have young talent there. Frankly, if they had an OL that was even average, they'd be bowling right now. Their O-Line was awful the last 2 years.

I forget the source but saw that (based on recruiting rankings) CSU has the #2 talent behind only Boise State in the MWC. If true, Addazio with a group of solid assistants can win some games the next few years.

In fairness, the only CSU game I catch is against CU. They seemed to do ok against the Buffs offensively, at least this year, and I liked Jackson and Wright as wideouts, but man that defense always got boat raced by CU.

Wednesday Carousel Update:

New stuff noted with an UPDATE tag. Lots to cover, updates are now more of a conglomeration so you don't have to scroll through to catch up.

Filled Jobs:

Rutgers-
Chris Ash out (h/t dwyermj), Nunzio Campanile was interim. Schiano back for Round 2 (h/t Jalapeno).

Washington-
On and off the Carousel in what may be world record time, Peterson out, Lake in. (h/t MKBuffs) Shout out to onealcd for his swami-like predictive powers on this one.

Arkansas- Chad Morris is out. Could not win even one SEC game. (h/t Duff). UPDATE: UGA OL coach Sam Pittman in. Underwhelming hire. Possibly pursuing Jay Johnson as OC.

Mizzou- Barry Odom out. (h/t Duff) UPDATE: Eli Drinkwitz in (h/t DeNiro), a $4MMper year. Probably a good coach, and not a bad choice here, but WAY overpaid. Ted Roof added to staff (h/t bombay).

UNLV- Sanchez does not survive. (h/t Jens). Ced Cormier is WR coach on UNLV's staff, I hope he lands on his feet. UPDATE: Arroyo Oregon DC in (h/t DeNiro)

USF- Charlie Strong is out. (h/t DeNiro) UPDATE: Clemson co-OC Jeff Scott in. (h/t DeNiro)

UTSA- Frank Wilson out. (h/t DeNiro) Jeff Traylor, from Arky, in. (h/t DeNiro) Barry Lunney, also from Arky to be OC. Both were promised gigs on the new Arky staff, but chose to leave...hmmm.

fUCLA- Could Kelly be on thin ice? Maybe. (h/t Duff) $9MM to buy Kelly out, he owes $9MM if he leaves. Sounds like a deal could be made for both parties to save face.

Wazzu- Tracy Claeys "resigns". (h/t Tractor) UPDATE: Leach extended (h/t DeNiro)

USC- hires Mike Bohn as AD (h/t ZKobalt), 11 other P12 programs chuckling uncontrollably.

Minnesota- PJ Fleck extended for 7 years, kNU in mourning.

Indiana- Tom Allen negotiating a raise, and presumably, an extension. kNU mourns more.

kNU- Frost extended by two years, then promptly loses, again, to Wiscy. (h/t blackdynamite), I think he had it first. kNU extends no bowl streak with loss to Iowa.

BYU- Kilani 'the Mushroom" Sitaki extended.

Willie Taggart- As noted in the FSU update, not so slick Willie never signed a formal agreement with FSU and the buyout provisions are up in the air. Willie needs to lawyer up and go after his agent and former attorney. This one cost him a bundle.

No. Colorado- Earnest Hollings gets the axe. (h/t ahoelsken)

Not final yet, but encouraging for former Buffs at Missouri...

Defensive coordinator Ryan Walters and former interim head coach Brick Haley were on hand for Drinkwitz’s introduction, and FootballScoop.comreported Tuesday afternoon that Walters, Haley and cornerbacks coach David Gibbs were expected to remain with the program. Sterk said all staff decisions will be left “100%” to Drinkwitz.

I have never seen UNLV to have the potential that you do. I grew up in Phoenix in the 70s and there were a lot of parallels. And still, ASU has suffered with attendance, despite having gazillions more alumni out there.

Challenges:
1. Other distractions and things to do in Sept-Nov. (A western US thing)
2. nobody is from there, most that live there, never have been on UNLV campus (another Western US thing)
3. The Raiders coming to town, is a giant problem not a help. Salt Lake and Boise don't have that to compete with. Either did UNLV. This is going to be a challenge for them, just as the Donks is the biggest reason for CU apathy. See talk-radio. Compare SLC talk radio to Denver.

They have built facilities, but honestly, not sure playing in the Raiders stadium is a help. It's going to be completely empty from day one. Echos galore.

Things on their side:
1. Lots of SoCal transplants in LV, including a decent amount of homegrown talent that is increasing with population.
2. Popular with Pacific Islanders. They love Las Vegas. Go to the Islands, and that's all they want to do is go on vacation in Vegas. Odd!
3. easy and cheap to get to from other recruiting hubs such as Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, and a short drive from SoCal.
4. Girls. They need to establish UNLV as the G5 Stripper U. Take no backseat to ASU, this needs to be embraced!

If I was the AD, I'd have tried hard to hire a Poly coach and go all-in on targeting that community, both in Vegas, the West Coast and the islands. If that didn't work, the Hawaii coach would have been a bold move as well, with his connections. Make yourself "the destination" for Poly kids at the G5 level, in addition to always recruiting the best kids available in your footprint, and you're moving up.
We all have our opinions. I’d also say that the ASU job you brought up is a top 4 job in the Pac-12.

Let me say this about the search they just ran-I don't think Joe Parker has a clue. He says he wants a head coach who has integrity.......and then he goes out and flirts with Food Cart (who was involved in a title 9 lawsuit at Tennessee) and Kevin Wilson (who got **** canned at Indiana for player abuse). Addazio was mediocre at BC, and his former players are celebrating his dismissal. He's also never coached west of Notre Dame, so you've got just as many recruiting footprint issues with this hire as you had with Bobo. His rammie debut will look like a CU home game.

Mandel's off base as well in the context of this job-they've gone Power 5 coordinator twice in a row, and they couldn't afford to go that way this time. Parker has made a mess of that AD between their stadium they can't fill and the disaster that his first FB hire was and the uninspiring move his second one looks to be. Dave Aranda would have lost a million a year had he gone there. The guys we talked to last year know they don't need to go down to that level to prove themselves before getting a Power 5 look. Ryan Day hasn't lost a game and Jimmy Lake's the HC at Washington.

I'll end this post with this-that game doesn't do a ****ing thing for this AD. I for one am not ever going to another game with CSU, and I think I'm not the only one on here who thinks that way. Go beat the hell out of them next year, and then do it again in 2023-24........and then don't bother with them anymore.

Always wary of guys who jump to another HC job immediately after a failed stint. Charlie Strong is one example and Willie Taggart might be the next one, along with Addazio.

The risk in hiring a guy like that is that he probably doesn’t understand what he did wrong to get fired in the first place, and is therefore likely to make the same mistakes at the new job.
I still think MM would have been a good choice for them. That’s the kind of program he can recruit middle of the road guys to and find a few gems to win 7-9 games a year consistently.
