Official 2021 Bowl Games Thread

What a game. When Barnes led the Utes to the game-tying touchdown, I started thinking about a CU backup doing the same thing and how awesome that must be, then I got distracted and ate some pizza.

First rounder playing in an exhibition? This disaster is why dudes in that spot opt out.

I still think players have more to lose by not playing in bowl games - one last chance to impress on a big stage, staying committed to your team, a once-in-a-lifetime experience with your teammates. Sure everyone likes to point to Jaylon Smith but he still got a 2nd contract for $35 million guaranteed.

Jaylon Smith lost $10-$30 million on his rookie deal and likely lost an even larger second deal.

There’s zero evidence that first rounders benefit at all from these games. NFL evaluators do not care because opt outs have been getting drafted highly the last 4-5 years.

Corral makes a lot less if he has anything that’ll cause him to miss playing time during OTAs and training camp. Him playing was moronic.

Imagine if a full strength tOSU was now moving on to face Oklahoma State or Michigan State for a trip to the Final Four?

Then high stakes conference championship games like the Big XII and B1G played would've been rendered meaningless as far as getting into the playoff is concerned. And before anyone brings up Georgia they were a rarity.

Not really. Michigan won and would have gotten a bye. The seedlings would have been different depending on what rules were implemented, but Alabama and Michigan would have been 1/2 no matter what and would have had Byes. If the top 4 had to be conference champs, Cincy would have been 3 and Baylor would have been 4. Plenty of incentive to win your conference.

A 12 team playoff this year

1. Bama
2. Michigan
3. Cincy
4. Baylor

5 v 12 - Georgia vs Pitt
6 v 11 - Notre Dame vs Utah
7 v 10 - Ohio State vs Michigan State
8 v 9 - Ole Miss vs Oklahoma State

I've been against expansion but I also know 12 is happening, so with that said this format is good with the incentives for bye's plus incentives for potential home games in the first round if they go that route. I just think 4 is perfect because you get the 2-4 elite teams in there for each given year, although usually it's 2 or 3 teams that meet the truly elite criteria.

We essentially went from a 2-team playoff in the BCS era for about 20 years to doubling that and now 4 suddenly isn't enough, why is that. Is it simply because ESPN is putting so much emphasis on the playoff whereas they didn't do that with the BCS national championship game? That certainly seems to be the case.

Rose Bowl is always a great setting and is must-see viewing regardless of who's in it.

I like what Utah has done with incorporating the rose into the logo on their helmet. I know other schools have done this for their first Rose Bowl trip, WSU and TCU come to mind.
I wouldn’t know what teams do for there first trip to the Rose Bowl.

Great play by Altmyer. I could see Carter stepping in and being prepared to make that play.

Reactions: wip
SIAP. The Utah success is an indictment of the CU administration. You can see what a comparable institution to CU can do with focused leadership, interested in a program that represents their University well. You can also see what incompetent bungling can do.

And yes, Utah was a success despite losing. When was the last time CU went to a major bowl and didn't get the ass handed to them? At least Utah showed and made a game of it.

It’s easy when you have absolutely ZERO restrictions placed on you and absolutely ZERO admin oversight of your program. They basically handed him the keys and said do whatever you have to make us a winner.

that's been the Kentucky basketball formula for decades.

(more of a joke than being a part of the UK/Stoops conversation). hehe.

I'm really surprised nobody has convinced him to leave yet
Bound to happen eventually. Same time, he's a Mid-West guy, even though Kentucky is considered to be part of the South more or less. If Harbaugh bolts for the NFL though, I wouldn't be surprised if he was contacted.
