Pretending New Girl GIF

FWIW, I found this article on Buffs SI, not sure how much in the loop they truly are but, they put out a few daily short articles, so it seems that they have a beat guy of sorts.

Noah King might be turning heads at CB maybe pushing to be a starter at outside CB. Although a Frosh, he has the size and was KSU's 2nd best recruit.

Larry Johnson was mentioned at RT. The other guys are not a surprise.

Noah King? He's doing fine, but a "standout?"
Aw Come On Martin Scorsese GIF

Johnson seems to be the leader for the other outside CB right now with Parks and Davis being in rotation. Vickers coming back healthy would be big for depth and competition as well and Noah King might have the highest upside of all of them but is a True Freshman.

I’d like to hear @cnbuff410 reasoning for being concerned. Not to say it’s unwarranted but to me, the concern is that we just don’t know who will emerge as the primary guy opposite DJ. Also, we’ve been spoiled the past couple years at the position.
Corner is not a concern IMO. There’s a lot of quality there. Least deep group is LB followed by S. If we can stay healthy in those two groups, defense is legit because our DL is tops in the Big 12.

Sure seems like CU is waaay under the radar this year, no? Not a lot of chatter nationally.

Prime being out of action for months meant CU was completely out of mind.

Not to mention, a lot of eyes on CU were there to watch Prime fail. When that didn’t happen, they changed course to saying he’d retire once his kids were gone, or he’d take another job.

All of the narratives from the haters fell apart, so now they’re just like…well I guess CU is going to business as usual.

We need to make a statement against GT to remind everyone we’re not going anywhere.

Surprised to see you drinking so much Kool-Aid 😄

Seriously though, our defense struggled against run-heavy teams last year (especially those with mobile quarterbacks), and now we’ve lost our best interior run defender along with our top run-stopping linebackers. I just can’t share the same level of optimism until I see two things happen:

1. They play significantly less cover 1 man than last year, and
2. Oatis really live up to the hype

As mentioned, anyone’s a downgrade from Hunter. But your words were “slight downgrade” and that somehow equates to not being a CB1? Imo DJ will be one of the first 3 CBs drafted when he goes
FWIW, various nfl draft sites I’ve seen recently have DJ as a top 3-4 CB in next years draft. Obviously that’s highly fluid, but he is clearly viewed as a top (draft eligible) CB in the country.
I don't believe DJ's draft hype is because of his current capability, I believe it's mostly because of his measurement and potential.

I don't want to focus on DJ because I do think he is a good CB. My main point is that I believe we've gotten weaker at each spot. I would say TH + DJ + Preston + Colton as primary backup was top 3 secondary group in the nation. I would very happy if the group this year is top 3 in big12.

ESPN used the term “Rebuild” because we lost 6 guys to the NFL, despite improving in every position except QB and some guy named Travis Hunter. Not the definition of “Rebuild” or even “Reload”. I would say we simply had to “Retool” and it takes about 5-6 guys to make up for those 2 and the other receivers, but we have those guys in place.

The key is Leadership and Par Shurmur’s offense!!!

We improved at every position except for the most important one.

Gotcha.

I really don’t believe that to be true. I think there’s a good chance we get improved play from the QB position this year. With a more balanced offense and a QB who isn’t playing hero ball all the time, we should be more consistent and more difficult to defend. In theory, anyway.

0% chance we get improved play at QB.

Maybe a little more balanced… but that’s it

I wouldn’t put it at zero percent. Shedeur is/was incredible, but he also put the offense in some bad spots by taking unnecessary sacks. I saw a stat somewhere that said close to half the sacks he took were on him and not the result of poor pass blocking. He tried to make plays when none were there. Sometimes it worked, so nobody was going to try to stop him. If Salter and/or Lewis can cut down on the negative plays while keeping the same completion percentage, I’d consider that an improvement. Having a legit running game will help that a lot. If we can actually find a TE, that will help even more.

Kaidon Salter’s career completion percentage is 58.7%. Shedeur’s completion percentage was 69.3% in 2023 and 74% last year. Salter brings a lot to the table, but he is not completing 74% of his passes. Neither is a true freshman. Juju will be in elite company if he completes 65%. Trevor Lawrence was 65.2% as a freshman.

QB play doesn't really matter. The only thing that matters is the offensive production.

Personally, I think we will have better offensive production this year, especially against legit D. Our OL is legit.

That’s one half of salters game, an imo you have to try to quantify how many times Shedeur holding onto the ball (and bad oline play) killed drives. I think you underestimate what salter can do with his feet.

Career stats:
Salter - 298 carries, 1,697 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns

Sanders - 399 carries, 29 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns (-127 yards rushing as a buff)

Everyone I talk to in-house has said since spring camp that this team will be better than last year's. Bigger, faster, stronger, smarter and better across all positions.
Also, hate him all you want but Shurmer is talking that this is the offense he has wanted to run and is actually having fun with it. <Gasp>
We are good enough through the 1s and 2s at every position to win at least 8. The questions are 1) QB, 2) Leadership, 3) Gelling as a team.

Like I've said a few times already, bet the house on the win total OVER. If you're not a gambler, become one.

We're f*cked.
