Official 2025 Opening Week - Georgia Tech Thread

Late to the party here and don't need to rehash anything that's already been said.

However, a thought that came to me in the off-season and still resonates. What kind of program is Prime trying to build? Is CU a spread-type offense that highlights pass or run first? Just pure smash mouth and run first? A type of WCO with RPO? An Air Raid program, which was basically what they had been for the past two years. Or, does he simply want his defenses to be elite and have an offense that can play clock management?

I know he has said he wants to be more physical and run the ball more this offseason, and that's what he wants going forward. However, I don't see that with this program, and honestly don't believe that suits Prime the best.

We are probably overreacting to everything as it is game one. We need to play it out. However, you can't go one way for two years, then just switch that up. This is going to take time and honestly makes no sense to me.

The same problems that plagued this team last year (physical teams up front who run the ball at a great to elite status) are still a very big problem. This coaching staff needs to get better quickly, as they do not have the best player in college and an elite QB (at least not yet for QB).

That entire "he's new" or "he's a transfer" or "it's his first game at this level" doesn't fly with me. Every team has transfers that start, especially at QB. Do all of those players take until game 6 before they are comfy without their blanky? Either you perform or you dont. It's simple , are you skilled enough to make plays and make the right decisions where you are playing now. Other players around the country are taking advantage of their new situation, all I'm hearing are excuses. Players and coaches need to do better, period.
FWIW, my "trust" point is not so much trust in the player but trust that he can get separation quickly.

Texting with some coaching buddies this week, and the consensus has been it looks like Shurmur is running what he THINKS a college offense should look like. But it's just sprinkles of various concepts with no real "spine" and nothing utilized to impose will or get the defense on its heels.

This would be the recipe for our high variance output

Well, I am far from an expert, but when you look at a team you can usually figure out what they want to do. They may not do it well, or the other team might be countering their plan, but a plan is discernable. I never could figure what it was CU was trying to do. It looked like a grab bag of plays. Granted, there was a lot of success, but not a lot of cohesion.

Buffs are in a tough situation. Juju is the future of the program and they have to be focused on the future because the target for this program with Prime is being a regular contender for the playoff, that future is Juju.

Salter can play better and has to and no he doesn't have a long time to do it. I would expect that this past weekend was the last one this year that we don't see Juju. How much we see Juju will depend on how soon Salter gets to being the QB he can be and how fast a 17 year old who should be a HS senior adjust to playing football with grown men.
I have a lot more faith in Prime’s player management than his clock management

Gotta keep em guessing?

Case in point: Orbit motion just for the hell of it.

This was my main critique of the offensive scheme, such as it was. In watching the All-22 film (on mute), there were open receivers, who schematically came open at the right moments to get them the ball, and there were definitely holes to run through that we--sometimes--didn't properly block (usually by just a step or two, or not keeping/having the right leverage, by an OL).

But even with some improvement in the offensive scheme and line play from last year, I didn't see any creativity or substantive misdirection. The pre-snap motion looked a bit like going through the motions more than actually seeking to create real mismatches or confusion.

Nothing new or creative. No inspiration. It feels like the communication about a given play is, "Ok, let's see if this works," as opposed to, "They'll never see this coming," "This is a score."

I do think that better execution will allow us to beat teams that we can out-talent, and that may be enough to have a pretty good season. In my head, I realize this just has to be a transition year, but in my heart, I hope to be in the BigXII hunt.

My thought during the game was our ends kept crashing down and not setting the edge, thus the fullback/TE and pulling G had easy entry into the second level thus big gains. To me that’s a discipline issue.
They did an awful job setting the edge, and pretty much anytime GT had some type of jet sweep, it went for big yards.

re-watch of the game I noticed the D missed shots on the QB when he would carryout ball fakes. Tackle that ****er, you don't know if its a ball fake or dude is keeping it. Hit him
Another one of those don’t hit the quarterback mental games that has been created by the rules and practices.

lol every team in the country institutes the “don’t touch our QB” rule in practice. It has never, and will never, affected a teams ability or desire to hit the opposing teams QB.
