Official Buffs vs. ASU Game Thread --- 2 PM on P12N

I think asu got a good coach in Herm, he's the exact opposite of Leach which is funny. At the point in the game when he went for it on 4th down I can understand his rational, he'd already seen the Buffs could score and figured 3 in a game of tds wasn't going to do a lot for him in the end game. MM on the other hand in the same scenario would've taken the 3 pts IMO.

One of the smartest decisions made so far this season is to not have Montez run so much. It's a long season and everyone knows Montez can run so it's a great ace up the sleeve. For all of the formations Chiv has shown so far I've got a pretty good idea he has some wrinkles he's been holding back, I'm waiting for McM to pass out of the wildcat.
I noticed Bounds ran a pattern (was open) so that's encouraging.
With all of the Shenault success JMac is putting together his best season.
3rd and long doesn't seem to be quite the adventure it was last season.
Is Udoffia hurt?
Tonz has his moments, I'm starting to like that kid.
Lewis was all over the place, hard to believe he didn't record more tackles.
Elliot's adjustments = 3 wins so far.
Brown & Nixon continue to impress
Speaking of wrinkles, at some point, something fun is going to come out of that interesting extra point formation as well.

I wonder if the ASU fans will come to think about Drew Lewis the same way Buff hoops fans think about Jordan Bachynski.

This is how P12 rivalries get started

I watched Herm periodically on the sidelines. He lets his assistants coach. He rarely gets involved in unit discussion during timeouts, etc. I got the impression he coaches his coaches and provides direction through the headset and then watches and evaluates. If he can recruit, he’s going to be very successful there IMO.

I was honestly shocked when they signed him but even more shocked to see the level of hate the move got here. Most of the comments talking about his lack of NFL wins or making fun of his quotes. Dudes fiery, smart and motivational from what I’ve seen on TV and the field. I wasn’t going to critique his coaching, he coached in the NFL, he can coach. The scary part was they grabbed a big, well known name guy who from everything I’ve ever seen can make a room stop and listen when he talks. I’m afraid of how good he might be able to recruit.

Edit: @Buffsrock85 posted the sequence in his post above this one. It gives a great account of the play.

Saw the entire punt play and resulting hit on Harry on the Pac 12 highlight show. I thought it was iffy. Lewis was running full speed up the sideline and was knocked off the field into the Buffs sideline. He went all the way behind the bench without breaking stride and ran a good 15 or 20 yards before coming back on the field and nailing Harry.

The rule is that a player blocked and knocked off the field has to attempt to get back on the field as soon as possible. To do that he’d have had to stop his momentum and work his way back through his teammates standing in the sideline. I’m thinking he very well could have been penalized.

Saw a different angle after posted. Odd play but originally it looked like he just ran off the sidelines last minute lol.

Kickoff (the alleged off the bench tackle) or punt, where he leveled the returner with his forearm in front of the CU bench?

Yup, explosive hit. That bit them in the ass.

It's actually a testament to good coaching Lewis knew the rule, Herm acknowledged that in the press conference.

Absolutely. I changed my post after posted. I was looking for the hit to show my wife and got the first article kind of crucifying him and was like “oh no.” But saw a different one with Herms quotes and the actual play. Props to him to keep going.

Just back from the game. Awesome crowd. Hope it came through the TV that way.

A hard fought win. Except for the deep ball against Fisher, I thought the D in the second half was good to very good. The goal line stand was pivotal. And the half time adjustments are why this team is undefeated.
Looked like **** the first quarter...at least on tv. 2pm kick off, half empty seats. And shocker...ASU took the lead. I still can’t figure out our students.

The late arriving crowd, in general not just the students, is irritating. Not likely to change though. Been that way for as long as I can remember.

Maybe they should only sell beer in the stands for the first quarter?

There were two sections that stuck out as mostly empty - above the band and right next to the band (students). I thought it was reasonably filled early on, otherwise.

Ok - need some help for future reference. Was wandering through the north side of Farrand Field with my son in hunt of Sackygate. Thought I might see an AllBuffs banner or something, to no avail. Are there any distinguishing characteristics of Sackygate itself? Saw two ambulances repainted with Buff colors, a giant 4x4 van with buffalo horns. Any of those belong to Sackygate?

I don't think that @sackman put the Allbuffs flag up yesterday.

That would be like that old, think it was an NFL clip, where a guy did do that :ROFLMAO:. It was a black and white clip, but I know I've seen it.
It was TCU vs. Alabama in the Cotton Bowl in like 1956 or something. Dude's name was Tommy something and he played for TCU. Think it was on a kickoff return when the Bama player had nothing but daylight ahead of him on the TCU sidleine.

I was wondering the same thing. Came to pick up some tickets from a guy around the jacked up van with buffalo horns, but didn’t know where AB was.

Reading the posts in this article make it even funnier!!! Lewis got tangled in coach MM’s headset cords and pulled coach to the ground trying to get untangled!:ROFLMAO:
How long did it take him to return to field? And what oath did he take?

I saw the video that the FBI attained on the Lewis play (they have their best on it now that this Kavanaugh stuff is done). You can clearly see Lewis run onto the bench, and another person coming off a different part of the bench wearing Lewis' jersey. There's some solid evidence that the player in question was in fact Jacob Callier in a Lewis jersey. The season ending injury story on Callier was a ploy to pull the mid return switcharoo and hurt ASU's best player N'Keal Harry.
