Latest from the TB reporter who broke the Prime-to-USF scoop this morning. Looks to me like a guy who is walking it back and giving himself outs while trying to maintain his credibility after a mistake.
Sanders can recruit. Can he do all the other stuff?
Recruiting and vision alone can help correct a lot of CU’s current issues, but I don’t see the rest based on his coaching history. I hope he can develop those chops if he comes to CU. I just expect he can’t measure up against top 20 coaching staffs.
- Motivational and vision for program. Yes
- Hire a good staff? Probably, tbd
- Game plan and game day coaching? Not convinced he’s ready to go up against P5
- Mentor other coaches? Big unknown.
Is this game on the Big 10 Network?**** that. I'm imagining Deion beating USC next year.
Bruce Feldman pretty much takes a on us
Missed it by a year, big ****ing deal. It was quite awhile ago.Two years?
MiM was 94
Mich came to CU in 96.
I'd be shocked if we started at $8M. I could see it growing to that or averaging that over a long-term deal. My guess had been around $6.5M and maybe a bit over that for assistants. Basically double our current overall commitment. I'd also expect a huge increase to recruiting budget since Prime's plan is to aggressively recruit nationally. If what I'm hearing is true...we are offering a competitive salary ($8M has been floated), we are working on being competitive with NIL and transfer/recruiting requirements...I must say I am very impressed with Saliman. It demonstrates to me Benson didn't give 2 ****s about football and I am really impressed with the new prez.
The Fickell and Rhule contracts are probably good barometers in terms of the increasing yearly salaries with decreasing yearly buyouts (if they leave). I could see a 6 or 7 year deal at an AAV of $7m+, but I have to imagine the buyout in the first 2-3 years would be fairly steep.I'd be shocked if we started at $8M. If so, 95% of coaches should want this job.If what I'm hearing is true...we are offering a competitive salary ($8M has been floated), we are working on being competitive with NIL and transfer/recruiting requirements...I must say I am very impressed with Saliman. I read somewhere that money for assistants is a big issue for DS.I'd be shocked if we started at $8M. I could see it growing to that or averaging that over a long-term deal. Prime is the kind of coach that will warrant teams fronting a huge buyout for him if he's successful. I'm hoping RG finally learned his lesson (doubtful) and made his buyout extremely large in the first few years. It won't stop teams from coming for him if they want him but it will set CU up financially for the next guy. But this is RG so it's likely a nominal fee like Tucker's.The Fickell and Rhule contracts are probably good barometers in terms of the increasing yearly salaries with decreasing yearly buyouts (if they leave). I get the vibe that we're trying to give Prime everything he wants, within reason of course. This has got to be 100% Saliman leading this...I can't imagine Tweedles Dee and Dum doing this.I read somewhere that money for assistants is a big issue for DS.
That Damn Benson was a Liberal Academic Elite! If what I'm hearing is true...we are offering a competitive salary ($8M has been floated), we are working on being competitive with NIL and transfer/recruiting requirements...I must say I am very impressed with Saliman. 100% this. People are worried that he will leave if he wins here. He will. But Rick needs to make sure that CU gets PAID if it happens to set us up for the next hire. If Sanders can start the rebuild and CU can take any walkaway money and find someone who can keep it going we will be in good shape.Prime is the kind of coach that will warrant teams fronting a huge buyout for him if he's successful. I also assume they will try to have a steep buyout, which I doubt Prime will care about because I don't see him leaving before year three.Prime is the kind of coach that will warrant teams fronting a huge buyout for him if he's successful. The Rhule contract was written so he could squeeze value from the Panthros. The Fickell and Rhule contracts are probably good barometers in terms of the increasing yearly salaries with decreasing yearly buyouts (if they leave). If you're somewhat certain that someone will try to buy him out in a couple of years, why not make it a MASSIVE contract a la something like Mel Tucker or Jimbo (maybe not that huge) with the intent that the buyout will pour money back into the coffers and set CU up nicely going forward. I guess I don't see a lot of (or any) downside to trying to nickel and dime this situation.I also assume they will try to have a steep buyout, which I doubt Prime will care about because I don't see him leaving before year three.
Yeah, I guess once his Panthers contract runs out, he's making $10m+ from Nebraska and it goes up each year. The Rhule contract was written so he could squeeze value from the Panthros.
He will be getting a massive contract, as will his assistants. If you're somewhat certain that someone will try to buy him out in a couple of years, why not make it a MASSIVE contract a la something like Mel Tucker or Jimbo (maybe not that huge) with the intent that the buyout will pour money back into the coffers and set CU up nicely going forward. I'm sure they would love to do that, but it's a balance and CU doesn't have a ton of leverage. If Deion wants an easier out after 3 seasons, he may not want a massive buyout. Of course there will be something reasonable agreed upon, but that's why they may not be able to have a $10m/year buyout for every year of his contract. If you're somewhat certain that someone will try to buy him out in a couple of years, why not make it a MASSIVE contract a la something like Mel Tucker or Jimbo (maybe not that huge) with the intent that the buyout will pour money back into the coffers and set CU up nicely going forward. And I'm sure he knows that too, which in some ways makes the higher buyout easier to include. On the other hand, if Deion is successful and decides he wants to leave CU, it would obviously be for a program like aTm or FSU that wouldn't think twice about paying a large buyout.
Deion's obviously a really, really intriguing candidate.....but the idea that he can hold out for something better isn't making sense to me right now. Forget a situation like Auburn. Georgia Tech OTOH I'm surprised didn't look at him. I know Brent Key made a more compelling case for himself as the permanent HC there than Sanford did here, but still.Watching “Get Up” on ESPN News. The college “experts” are Paul Finebaum and Heather Dinich. When asked about Deion and CU, Dinich said it’s a great opportunity for him but he may consider waiting for something better. She said Deion would be a home run hire for CU because he can recruit nationally.
Finebaum said, “I think it’s a bad job and Deion Sanders knows that and obviously he has a game so he’s taking his time with this but he can do better from this view, there are a lot of, uh, really amazing opportunities I think he could get, particularly in the areas of the country where he can make the most impact. To win in Colorado you have to go to Arizona, you have to go to California. I’m not saying Deion can’t do that. Deion can recruit anywhere but I think he can do better in Florida, in the south and in Texas.”
I get so effing sick and tired of these national “experts” bashing CU. IT IS NOT A BAD JOB!! Screw that dickhead.
Because Central Florida was already taken. This confusing system stems from the hubris at the University of Florida and to a lessor degree Florida State University. UF, and its friends in the legislature, refused to allow a system where by schools could be called UF Tampa, UF Orlando, UF Jacksonville, etc. Thats why you have names like FIU, FAU, FGC, etc.I think the more important question is Why is University of *SOUTH* Florida in Tampa??
Ive been dead longer then you.Not sure about the rest of you, but I have not been able to sleep for about a week now. seriously
Pretty sure Jimbo has no buyout if he chooses to leave. If you're somewhat certain that someone will try to buy him out in a couple of years, why not make it a MASSIVE contract a la something like Mel Tucker or Jimbo (maybe not that huge) with the intent that the buyout will pour money back into the coffers and set CU up nicely going forward.
