Official CU vs Delaware Game Thread

When the defense faced a system that was established and properly manned (for the system) last week, and got run over, I was less concerned than I was today. Tackling seems to be an issue. LBs don't really cover gaps. I can't believe that Delaware was routinely ripping 5 yard plus first downs, and passing downfield with ease.

Like last week, Salter is not the guy. I don't think he sees the field well, and he doesn't appear to be a great decision-maker.

Juju throws a beautiful ball. He will be a great Buff.

Staub is the QB I trust most in the moment. I remember thinking there wasn't a big drop-off from Shedeur to Staub two years ago in the Utah game. I always assumed that Staub would transfer - I love that he's stayed.

You can’t afford to sink an additional mil to go into year 2 without knowing if Lewis is a hit or miss, can you?

These are professionals and you can’t afford to sit your most expensive player.

Playing the players who give you the best chance to win is usually a good way to do things. If that guy is Malcolm-Jamal Staub, so be it.

Let's not forget that CP makes the call to put Staub in. He sees how awful the offense and defense have been, although he is protecting 2 coordinators who are not cutting it. A good manager protects their guys - I'm sure they are hearing how bad this has been. It seemed crazy at the time but it was a good plan to pivot once we saw 2 Juju punts.
Yep, Great call! I think that takes guts.

Problem is that multiple true freshman QB's are killing it, especially Underwood and that kid at Cal, so Juju may be 17 years old blah blah blah, but with a competent playbook, he could have started the season

Coach Prime not being in the building all summer (for obvious and serious reasons) had a lot to do with how close this team was or how prepared they were. Shurmur did not do his job every moment

Underwood is 6/14 for 77 yards. His team is losing 21-10.

When exactly did Prime decide to play Staub? Earlier this week? Or after he saw Juju’s two series? His on-field interview made me think it was earlier this week.
Martin Luther Staub had a dream. It's not sexy but it was a find. Don't forget that we have Farrakhan as a target.

Destined!

There was a post in here that said he found out he would be playing this weekend during the week and even presented plays he felt comfortable with to Shurmer on Friday.

The way the announcers mentioned the rotation after the half of each qb getting two series, AND the fact that prime put in Staub when he did indicates to me that the rotation was also decided earlier in the week.

I feel staub going in when he did was prime sticking with his plan and what he had promised his players in advance. But I could be wrong on that.

Thanks.

My (completely baseless) guess: Prime planned earlier this week to have Juju play a couple series today. Salter wasn’t good.

Juju came in for his somewhat pre-planned drives and showed some raw talent but not enough to continue playing in a (at the time) close game. He threw Staub in at the end of the first half to light a fire under Salter’s ass. Staub engineered a TD drive in 40 seconds, forcing Prime’s hand to have him start the second half.

Staub had another great drive to start the second half and he’s now the starter. Juju is the backup and will get some looks when possible to develop.

An attempt to get Salters head out of his ass, but he ended up outplaying him
I was there too and I am struggling to figure out why they rotated like they did and why they called many of the plays they called at the time they called them

That is my most wtf is happening here game in a very long time.

Because they recruited him in the transfer portal and had to give him a chance. Otherwise they won’t get other transfers.
Dude can’t run the offense. We gave him a contract and all the first team snaps leading up to this. I’m not trying to drag the player. If this is the offense they want then why recruit pay and start the guy?

So towlard the end of salters appearance he had a hugely wide open running land and threw a high incomplete pass when he would have run for the first down. 2 would have made those plays. What is up then? Either the offense isn’t built to suit the qb or they missed on the qb they picked.

If that's the case then he needs to play. Every play. He needs to play. I don't care if they lose every game. You don't create a winning football program by sitting your best players.
Dumb And Dumber GIF

At this point it’s our best plan of attack.

Well now I'm curious.

Definitely going to need GMs for college football programs. I thought they were necessary ten years ago. Now, they absolutely will be. This is all new. There definitely will be a Moneyball element to this over the next several years.
