Official CU vs. Kansas Game Thread 11/23/24

Have you ever watched a really talented kid playing in a vanilla offense with so many mind scratching plays still have such good stats without a running game? So hard to watch
Those kind of players win you a lot of games, but it is hard to win consistently or win a championship on the effort of just one player.

We are so far ahead of where we were 2 years ago that we are ignoring the areas of the team that are still weak.

Our OL finally can generally pass block at a P4 level, many if not most of our sacks are after Shedeur has held the ball on inordiantly long time. We still though have to get signifcantly better at run blocking. Our inability to get 1 or 2 yards when the defense knows we are running it is disturbing, we simply don't establish any push at the LOS.

Neil is a very good back, hard to tackle, but it is much easier when he is yards past the LOS before first contact and when the blocking has tied up most defenders meaning he is dealing with a single DB or LB. We also don't deal well with receiving TEs or RBs who are solid receivers out of the backfield.

Today despite the numbers I think the biggest factor was our defense not being able to force turnovers. KU in their losses this season has been a turnover machine but we never seemed to get on top of them and force them into the situations that generate them.

Had we gotten of to a stronger start we could have forced KU out of dominating the game with their runs and short/intermediate passes. Instead it was us scrambling to keep up and forced into mistakes.

Kansas doubled us up on plays and time of possession. How you put it on anyone else other than the Defense is beyond me.
did the offense have any long drives? did we ever change the narrative with a physical moment? nah, we ran quick screens that told them we were scared. did we get lajohntay or will shepp downfield or run the ball? no

He didn't miss over 21 tackles
I think we can upgrade over half the defense
Safeties, CSC is a great Buff and a great young man, but he and Shilo can be upgraded with bigger and faster players
LB's, again NHG and Bent are great Buffs and great men, but they can be upgraded
Love our Rush ends, and gotta keep building our interior

I am disappointed for sure, but with some perspective, not pissed at all. We definitely outperformed all expectations for the season. KU was the better team today. How many 4-5 year players do they have? That is the way it goes. 9-3 is a ****ing miracle relative to two years ago.

i'm probably overreacting, but the NFL focus in the play calls is missing the oddities of the college game. livingston and the D never dealt with the stacked lineups, and the offense just rarely made them change their focus. SS2 never went down the field except on the drelon TD. we need a TE. we need to push the ball upfield to lajohntay, god that was a painful watch

Oh yeah! My bad. I forgot the stark difference there was from any other game this season

Thing is, we have the personnel to be much better than we were against that team, even with poor tackling. You don’t give up 331 yards rushing strictly because of poor tackling. This was a Livingston scheme issue today. KU found something and he wasn’t able to adjust.
