Official Michigan State/Mel Tucker Hate Thread

The our coach was innocent but your coach is guilty mentality is a fundamental problem t

The “circle the wagons for our guy” mentality is imbedded into the culture of most/all institutions. It is why at the worst of it like PSU/MSU/Catholic Church/Baptist Church/BU/Boy Scouts/NFL/etc because protecting the institution becomes paramount.

The Barney era was full of problems. I agree CU didn’t need to nuke it’s football program for two decades but the blindness in the most strident is a bedrock problem.

From the devil's advocate side:

She is a reknowned champion of women, a fighter against male abuses. But, when she realizes he has a romantic/sexual interest, she doesn't break things off. She knows MT is married, but no concern for his wife and family? And she continues to have half-hour conversations with him every week. She had to think that might be leading him on.

She listens to his 'masturbation' call intently enough, that she can hear each stroke and the application of lubricant. .I don't know what PTSD factors might be involved, but I'd think someone who's a victim of male sexual aggression, would hang up as soon as possible (if a shell-shocked vet is watching TV and loud bombs are falling on Ukraine, he shuts it off)

MT admitted the masturbation and is toast.
The civil suit for damages?
**** you

A mod on the MSU 247 site said Tucker and his wife have been separated since he was coaching in Boulder but they cohabitate for the benefit of their children.

And this is exactly why countless women do not report sexual harassment and assault.

But a note of caution here, before we all wallow in what would be a justified fit of schadenfreude. Remember that CU was the target of some seriously questionable (okay, total bs) allegations twenty years ago against the football program, which ultimately led to the departure of our last good coach until the present one. That didn't involve the coach directly, but his players. The alleged victim, a female place kicker who shall remain nameless here (but I'm pretty sure most of you know who it was) whose allegations were breathlessly promoted by by the local DA and even the governor, who had no love for CU, was apparently frustrated that Coach GB didn't hold her kicking prowess in as much esteem as Skippy did, and used the charges to get a payday, which she eventually did by way of settlement. That of course was the beginning of the downfall of the Buff football program, which continued until today.
Thiw whole paragraph is a hot load of bull****. Katie Hnida was not the lone "alleged victim", nor was she the first to come out when all of this was going down. The ongoing attacks on her serve no purpose but to make CU and "fans" like you look bad.

The Barnett scandal, whether right or wrong, was a black mark in CU football history. But it is the continued rehashing of it in posts like yours (or Philly deciding to make a joke about it in a completely unrelated thread) that continue to let it fester.

In other words, just shut the **** up.

Michigan State has some seriously dark and deep issues that need to get cleaned out from top to bottom.

Regarding Mel, there were already warning signs amongst some of us in the AD (and donors) that 2019 season. Even Adam intimated as much when Mel left. The optics were bad at the time with him bailing, but I thought we were dodging a bullet and it seemed Adam agreed. Lots of people took that to be “big boy recruiting” being the problem but those weren’t the ones some of us were concerned about. Looks like it wasn’t unfounded. What a despicable sack of ****

CU football wouldn’t have survived a scandal with Tucker imo.

You can now see MSU fans clamoring for Prime, but that POS organization needs to focus on cleaning its house first because they clearly have massive problems that go beyond just a coach or doctor. Also those fans can **** right off if they think they can “big time” us again, they’re ****ing trash and a cut below us now

Below is from ESPN. The complaint was filed 12/2022. MSU claims that they are investigating the complaint and taking it seriously, but seem to be stretching it out to fit with the football timeline or hoping that it goes away and/or no one finds out. How does this take 9 months to draw any conclusion? MSU seems to have learned nothing. Their FOIA exceptions appear to be unusually broad.

ESPN filed a public records request with Michigan State on July 30, seeking documents related to any complaints alleging that Tucker violated the university's relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy.

The school's interim president refused the request, citing a passage in state law that exempts information that "would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of an individual's privacy."

"Under FOIA's privacy exemption, information is exempt if (1) it is personal in nature, and (2) disclosure would reveal little to nothing about the inner workings of the government. Information is personal in nature when it is intimate, embarrassing, private, or confidential," Michigan State wrote in its denial.

ESPN believes the denial is a violation of state open records law and has engaged a Michigan-based law firm to pursue potential litigation.

"As a matter of protocol, the university does not comment on potential investigations. Let me assure you that if any complaint came forward regarding a violation of the university's Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct policy, it would be thoroughly reviewed and followed up on by MSU's Office for Civil Rights," a spokeswoman for Michigan State said in a statement to ESPN on Saturday night. "Confidentiality is important to the culture around reporting incidents -- it's crucial in creating a safe environment for individuals to come forward. Our commitment to our campus community and the public is to ensure that every complaint or concern brought forward is taken seriously and, when warranted, that a thorough investigation takes place. When investigations do happen, they need the ability to be conducted in a thorough and confidential manner."

There is no question that there have been some incidents involving football players in Boulder, you can also say that about virtually any other football program in the country. When you have 100+ young men who are away from home for the first time in their lives, living in a masculine environment surrounded by co-eds eventually you are going to have issues.

The statistics show that sexual assault/sexual abuse/sexual harassment is disturbingly common on all college campuses. I'm certain that if you were to look at university marching bands, drama departments, etc. you would find a frequency of the same thing.

The questions that matter in this issue are related to what the school does to try to protect students (and others) from these behaviors, How tolerated are the behaviors andare the behaviors part of the institutions culture.

At the time of the "scandal" in Boulder there was zero evidence that Gary Barnett or anyone else in authority knew about the behaviors much less encouraged them. You can argue that he should have made more of an effort to know what was going on but he wasn't willfully ignoring much less encouraging it.

In contrast to this we know that for one example Baylor University knew that players were involved in the behavior and recruited players including some who had prior records of this conduct on other campuses including one who was kicked out of Boise for it.

The evidence presented in court showed that Penn State, with the heavy influence of Joe Paterno knew about what Jerry Sandusky was doing on their campus, an adult who was formerly an employee and who still had an office and access to campus, and chose to ignore it and deliberately cover it up to protect the "image" of the program.

Michigan State, was even worse (if that is possible.) Their coaches knew about scholarship basketball players and football players who were credibly accused engaging in these kinds of activities. Worse they had a Medical Doctor who was part of their faculty, who had medical access to student athletes including the young women he abused, and despite repeated warnings and evidence they covered up what he was doing to avoid negative publicity and to be able to have the status of a national team doctor on their staff.

If MSU fails to take appropriate action here they will be setting themselves up for some well deserved national criticism as well as some serious litigation. If it turns out as the SI statements would indicate that they have already delayed the investigation or taking action based on information developed under that investigation for the benefit of the football program this could and should get very ugly for them.
