I never understand that kind of kickoff. the receiving team is bunched up for a possible onside kick. They have only 1 man deep. Why not pooch it half way. All sorts of things can happen as that 1 kick returner runs up and tries to pick it up, with the kick coverage team bearing down on him and the ball bouncing around.

Agree with you, or drop it down the hash marks inside the 20, see what happens. Make the returner chase the thing down.
Clemson maybe should have tried the onsides kick. Never should have put the ball back in the hands of Alabama's offense.
