Official Texas State Game Thread

Offense was better in the second half. Focus offensively has to be using the playmakers we have at WR to open up the run game and not just forcing the ball down the throat of an opponent to establish the run like we did today. Defensively-two games with no touchdowns is a definite positive. Got better play from the secondary, but I think that's more of a product of this opponent being inferior to little brother. Too many rushing yards.

153 passer rating.

I'm not watching the game (at a friend's cabin in Silverthorne) and while I thought we'd score faster, it doesn't seem like those numbers are Montez's fault alone. I'll watch the replay tomorrow though.

Perhaps we're being a little harsh but he missed a few wide open receivers, at least one of which would have been a TD, probably two. Seemed to hold on to the ball longer than necessary in the 1st half. Definitely had a better 2nd half.

we saw a lot of improvement today. we're not there yet, but i think blaming montez is misguided. he's still a work in progress but he's got the tools and he's improving. the defense looks pretty good.

one more practice game and then this **** gets real.

we would have put 50+ on them had the offense come together a bit sooner than it did.

lots to improve upon, across the board, but we took care of them handily. that's what our Buffs are supposed to do. glad we have another tuneup game before the fuskies roll into town. i really would like to see the Buffs knock them around and their rat-faced coach, too. lots of work to do to make that happen.

People are quick to change tune because we started scoring right around the time our depth and talent advantage is supposed to really kick in and generally we'd have our backups in.

Honestly, I did think there was an intensity gap, especially in the 1st quarter, but throughout the 1st half.

The line play was much better in the second half, and that was at least in part to the linemen on both sides of the ball getting their asses chewed at half, imo.

I'm still not impressed with the running game or the play calling, but the second half made me feel a little better.

We played bad in the first half, pretty decently in the second half and won by 34. You'd like to see us stomp a team like TSU by 50, but it wasn't so long ago that we were losing to FCS teams if we played a bad half. I agree with @ahoelsken that we need to spread the ball around the field to open up the running game instead for forcing Lindsay early. Too many playmakers outside for anyone to cover them all if Montez is on target.

The defense is obviously exceeding expectations by giving up just 6 points in two games.

The offensive line has to do better. Getting Irwin back will help a lot. Montez has to be more accurate on the deep balls.

All in all, I'd say we still have the potential to be very good if we fix the obvious issues. We could be looking at a disappointing 5-7 or 6-6 record if we don't. I certainly don't think it's panic time. Decent P5 teams get upset by FCS/low level FBS teams almost every week. We dominated while playing far from our best.

Under 100 yds rushing vs that team is a big concern.

. some good play, but overall not impressive. the many fans who didn't show, made the right choice. we paid $900,000 for that , according to tv guy. somebody should grow a pair and schedule a home and home with wyoming

If intensity is that low for our offense while playing a game, how low is it in practice?

1. We literally had a homer play-by-play guy on a national broadcast in Jeremy Bloom call Montez' mechanics into question by saying he has "High School Feet." Montez is inexperienced and hopefully will get better. He missed easy plays. In the 2nd quarter he missed three consecutive passes to wide open receivers.

2. The offensive line was getting punked by a team from the Sun Belt. We should've ran all over their asses but couldn't get a push.

3. The playcalling from Lindgren left much to be desired since he adjusted much later in the game. 3rd & 10? Draw. He called shallow routes on 3rd downs on more than one occasion. In much of the 1H, we were extremely predictable with a high rate of runs off center and guard on early downs.

4. The defense and special teams were again highlights for our team. I don't mind winning with defense, but our offense has major talent that's severely underused atm.

A couple of things I don't like hearing about Montez. ****ty footwork, slow in his reads, and the indifferent look on his face. He needs to wake the **** up.

Very impressed with the D. Offense was way over-hyped. Think there is lots of motivation issues on offense. Montez needs to take what the D gives him and seems to be pressing way too much. A lot to improve on, especially on O. Still a good team, IMO.

Not sure his reads are that bad. The footwork, decision making under pressure, and missing easy throws are all legitimate criticisms, though.

I'm not going to get on him too hard for his attitude today, everyone not named Lindsay or Oliver seemed to have that problem in the first half.
