Week 13, getting close to the end of the regular season and the final determinations of who is in the playoffs, who gets the major and minor bowls, who ends up with a long off-season and then you have the fuskers fans still trying to convince themselves that they matter. They will have plenty of time to think about it as they brush their tooth and put cardboard in the trailer windows to keep the drafts out.
The week again begins on Tuesday with two MAC games featuring a bunch of teams hoping for mediocrity and some kind of bowl in an exciting city like Boca Raton or Boise, Wednesday is Miami (Oh, hi) (6-4) against the one FBS team that may be worse than both UMass and Rutgers in the Akron lost their Zips. (0-10) Thursday offers a bad ACC game.
Saturday has some great story lines along with games that match up top 25 teams.
In a game that could turn the playoff projections upside down Pedo State (9) visits Ohio State (2). An upset here would throw the whole thing into question. A Buckeye win and they could make a make a strong argument to return to the top spot.
Texas A&M (7-4) hasn’t lived up to their pre-season hype this year. Beating Georgia (4) in Georgia would knock the Bulldogs out of the playoff picture and give Aggies some satisfaction.
Baylor (13) was exposed last week by Oklahoma. This week they host Texas (19) who is ranked despite a 6-4 record. Will the Horns hand the Bears another loss.
Harbaugh at Michigan (15) bought himself some relief from the pressure by laying one on cross-state rival Michigan State last week. That pressure could be right back on if they lose at surprising Indiana (7-3) leading into next weeks battle with their main rival, Ohio State who Harbaugh has not yet been able to figure out.
Not all are great contest. This is the weekend that a bunch of SEC schools schedule a free win against such powers as Samford (no not Stanford, that might involve leaving the region,) Western Carolina, Tennessee Martin, Eastern Tennessee State, and possibly the worst, Arkansas.
Speaking of bad, things just keep getting worse for Frosting and his red cupcakes. They go on the road where they have won exactly one time since hiring Frosty as the savior to the Maryland Clownsuits. Maryland is one of the worst P5 teams in the country. If the fuskers manage to lose to them it will not only be embarrassing because of who they lost to but with Iowa waiting for them next week they will be looking at losing their final 6 and 7 of their last 8 games this season. Not exactly trending the in right direction although with enough meth and methane in their systems they might see it that way.
In the PAC 12 a number of schools are still trying to get bowl eligible. The two teams with hopes to win the league and slip into the playoffs both head to the desert. Utah (7) is at Arizona (4-6) and Oregon (6) goes to Arizona State (5-5.)
Locally the big game is on Friday night as the Border War takes CSU (4-6) to Wyoming (6-4.) Wyoming has been struggling some lately. The sheep still hold out hopes for a bowl but those are thin hopes since even if they win this one they will get waxed by Boise the final week of the season.
AFA (8-2) travels to New Mexico (2-8) to make up the game postponed a few weeks ago.
Northern Colorado’s (2-9) season has been over for a few weeks as they have played out the string but this week they get one last chance to add a win to the total as Cal Poly (2-8) comes in.
Earning the respect of the committee the RMAC got two playoff berths this year. Undefeated Mines host Sioux Falls on Saturday and Pueblo host Augustana.
