Their offense is going to name their score in most games. They just don’t seem to look much different on defenseNo comparison in the talent levels between USC and SJSU but USC looks distinctly underwhelming.
Unless something changes it would be no surprise to see them lose multiple games this year.
Their offense has the talent to name the score. The question is can they maintain focus and play to their ability when they need to,Their offense is going to name their score in most games. They just don’t seem to look much different on defense
Soft is the appropriate descriptionTheir offense is going to name their score in most games. They just don’t seem to look much different on defense
When I said it, I was a troll to some on here. USC defense is questionable. It will always be questionable because Lincoln Riley just doesn't invest much into it. He's all about creating turnovers and making sure his defense is really fast. But good or sound, never. No comparison in the talent levels between USC and SJSU but USC looks distinctly underwhelming.
Unless something changes it would be no surprise to see them lose multiple games this year.
Probably not but that will be the case for everyoneWe will stop him.
Everyone says the first few non/con games don’t matter. But if you don’t dominate, ****’s probably going to sideways. No comparison in the talent levels between USC and SJSU but USC looks distinctly underwhelming.
Unless something changes it would be no surprise to see them lose multiple games this year.
You are what you are until you aren't. If you give up 28 points at home to SJSU your defense probably sucks. And I'm an Oregon fan, so I I know a ****ty defense when I see one.Everyone says the first few non/con games don’t matter. But if you don’t dominate, ****’s probably going to sideways.
Probably not but that will be the case for everyone
He moves like Dante Hall but he can run routes and catch as well. He's different
The other ranked team playing is (6) U$C against Sad Jose State who finished 7-5. This game is getting so much national respect that it is playing on the PAC12Network while such powerhouses as UMass/New Mexico State and San Diego State/Ohio (yup the mighty Bobcats) are on ESPN and FS1 respectively.
I think that last year's Georgia team would have put up 80 on USC if they had played. When I said it, I was a troll to some on here. USC defense is questionable. Bama would have did them even worseI think that last year's Georgia team would have put up 80 on USC if they had played.
I don't believe I was taking away from anyone on any team by praising Branch. That kid is special. He's going to be a problem for anyone, including CU when the time comes.
Ok... "Shirley- you can't be serious"
"Don't call me Shirley"- Airplane Leslie Nielsen
I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here because I don't show up for months at a time.... I am on this board to have a good time and pick up some info for my favorite sports team- I would rather have CU win the National Title than my Eagles win the Super Bowl. You should take what ever I say as an attempt at sarcasm and to make people laugh (and really make fun of Liver- who took the place of dear old Junction in my mind). Maybe I need to do a better job with the emojis to express my sarcastic posts, but I am too lazy.
Laugh with me.
(and Dylan Edwards and Jimmy Horn Jr both have posted 40 times better than Zachariah Branch.... just sayin.....)
Long post warning - Rambling advisory. An passionated but I meant well post.
I had to laugh at Jake. He learned something our Prime supporters learned a while ago.
Jackson State has a massive fanbase.
30% are reasonable, supportive of all HBCUs, and supportive of Prime as he reflects that. They are passionate and loyal supporters. Many Prime fans are still JSU fans, and most relate and get along with these fans. The way you know these guys is they still love Prime and what he did but wish he was still at JSU but it's okay and T.C. is there and they will throw their support with T.C.
50% of JSU fans are f**king idiots. They are only loyal to JSU. They are idiotic in their opinions. Generally are stupid af. Hate Coach Prime. Hell, they hate Neely and they are the main ones crying, "Prime lied to us!" I can't stand them. Honestly, when people in HBCU land say they hate JSU fans, it's these stupid SOBs they are talking about. Ignorance asses, on the level of TCU fans. These guys hate Prime, if you want to find them, ask them about Shilo. They love Shilo. That's the only Sanders they like.
20% are JSU fans who are moderate to sports but loyal to the band and just love the culture in general. These fans are easy going, cool and while they don't represent the fans who are still following the team in Boulder. They do ask about Prime. Some even watch docs on him but they aren't the ones who watch WellOff.
People like me are Prime fans. We joined JSU in DEC of 2020. Like the 30%, we are still supportive of JSU. I love their players and coaches, and I like Ashley Robinson. Still hate many of their fans (50%) crew. Us Prime fans are loyal and we are generally the ones who watch all of his videos, watch DNVR, watch his opponents, and scout them heavily. That's our main squad for the most part.
Many of us are still supporters of the Scottay's of the world, Bluebloods, Cori Orrs, 1400 Klub, etc. but we aren't as passionate about it as we are about where Prime's currently at. Many of us have our reasons. I am an Atlanta guy, Prime was my favorite athlete and to me, the GOAT Falcon. I am also a diehard Braves fan and he was our specialist as a base runner. He played with an edge which was unusual for Baseball players at that time. So when he wanted to get a job coaching, that was going to be my team no matter where he went but when he went to an HBCU. It was a no-brainer. As Black folks, we always talked about our best going back home and bringing back the talent to where it originally started and it was for economic reasons.
Deion wasn't the most pro-Black. Never was. Some within the Black circles would call him out for it. I won't repeat it as house business is house business. Of course, this made him different. He was not the type that HBCUs catered to but he was prominent in white society which meant access to white wealth which isn't common for many Blacks at all. Especially the ones coaching college sports. https://www.federalreserve.gov/econ...019-survey-of-consumer-finances-20200928.html
Deion came in and brought in a lot. He came with great expectations of excellence. Generally, you come in knowing you got a lot less and that's that but Deion was different. He went to FSU. He played there. He was in the MLB and NFL. He was transitioned into media at a high level. Deion since 18 years old was always around programs and networks that are working to be elite. HBCUs are limited. His recruiting budget was 10k in year 1. His practice field was in horrendous condition. Deion had to make a lot of corporate calls just to try to level the playing field.
At CU, even though you sucked before Prime, it wasn't because you weren't working on being excellent. You just had major barriers. You hired exceptionally well. You had workers committed to excellence. What JSU and all other HBCUs with a couple exceptions have is governments that give them NEGATIVE support. They don't have white wealth. Black wealth is limited. Most of their boosters wouldn't even pitch a bucket at CU. This country is still very biased and while it's made strides to help few, many fall behind and you can't help everyone when it's systematic.
The reason why I am bringing this to you is, it's hard to understand why many of those 50% were so mad at Prime. They didn't understand the business and they didn't understand what Prime's goals were. Truthfully, many never will. Because of the cards they were dealt. They weren't extremely gifted rare athletes. Even if they worked hard, there weren't white powerful men bending over backward to help them in life. They couldn't make a call and get a corporation to give them 500k out of the kindness of their heart. They don't have that network no matter what they do. Many of us don't, regardless of race but you got six degrees of separation. Their six degrees are mainly tied to slavery which they never got compensated for mentally, emotionally, or physically.
My idea of Prime's goals
1. Getting Shedeur into the best route to be an NFL QB.
2. Building a legacy of the tree of Bobby Bowden. Someone Prime holds dear.
3. I honestly think he's motivated by this profession and has a passion for it. I don't know when he came to JSU it was like that but he just fell in love with it and I give him the same rush he felt on Sundays.
4. He likes helping and giving a chance for young men to become their best selves. I think he's been like this since he was younger but this gives him the platform.
5. I honestly think he would be a preacher if he wasn't so competitive. He's not competitive about God, he's joyous about God. Probably his biggest strength is his collectivity and his passion to see others be their best self. This is where I think he's special as a person.
As a coach, he's special at connecting with people. His coaches, friends, family, co-workers, players who are like his kids, staffers, and supporters. That's his biggest strength as a coach. Kind of reminds me of Bill Synder from a personal stance.
He's a very good recruiter. I do believe the map being nationwide is more due to Deion Sanders, the celebrity HOFer more than the coach but it is what it is. Your accomplishments are your resume and NFL Network, Madden, and ESPN/Fox show Prime's resume often. When Deion brought in RG to see how he was recruiting, Rick saw quite a few growing areas for Prime which tells me he's still learning college recruiting and really how to do it well. Rick saw a recruiting wizard in Mel Tucker so he knows what an elite recruiter looks like as he was a recruiter at point.
Deion's defensive imprint is stronger than his offensive imprint. He just has such high expectations of all of his defensive players. Whereas the offensive coaches have more freedom. He does expect more from them which is the downside.
Deion's player development is top notch but he can only develop players that want to be developed. We all see that super freakish talented player who's great but he's the same as a Soph and as a Jr. Deion can't fix that. But I've noticed his player development at JSU was special. Guys were having breakthrough years. Some who barely improved in year 1 massively improved in year 2. Because he's such a hard ass as a coach, you really gotta have the mindset.
His biggest goal is getting all of his guys to the pros. If not pro sports, then pros as a businessman. This is another area he is elite at even right now. Many coaches are pure **** at this. Many don't care how your life ends up once the game is done. Prime cares and his work at JSU was special and he didn't have the pieces in place that he does at CU. To me, this is probably #1 on my recruiting bucket if I could be a college player all over again. I would value a coach who wants to put me in a position to better my family. With or without Football. I don't want to do the SEC hustle.
That is, if I don't make it, they give me some money to go back to my hometown and coach these youth football leagues and find future stars to direct them to their former school making 30-40k a year and a bonus when you find someone and guide them to that school. That's some bull**** to me. I want to come out making high five to low six figures. I want to make 200-250k in my 30s and maybe some side businesses with former CU athletes. I want to have a family I can provide for no matter if I live in LA, Denver, Boulder, or where that said player is from. To me, that means the world. You saw the wealth gap list I posted. Not everyone will be Prime. Not everyone will be Shane Cokes who could be a multi-millionaire without football. But for everyone who sacrificed for the greatness of this program, I want to give them the best shot at life to have a great future.
The thing I like about Prime as a coach is he's extremely disciplined. It's really like playing for Bobby Bowden and Bill Synder. While he has modeled his coaching after Bobby. I think he has more in common with Bill.
They love older players. Bill would recruit JUCOs. Redshirt them. He loved JUCOs because they had an edge and a hunger. Prime uses the portal. I do believe Prime would use JUCO even more if the Football IQ was a lot higher. Football IQ is probably the 2nd area he looks at in recruiting. He loves grad transfers. I honestly believe Bill would live in the portal if he was still coaching.
From what I've seen and even the adjustments at CU:
1. NFL Potential - Prime generally wants guys with NFL potential. He will okay guys who fit a system and are flexible but they must be grad transfers and can help ASAP but he's looking for NFL guys.
2. Football IQ - While I would say this was not a priority at JSU In year 1, it was in year 2. His players were much smarter in his 2nd class even if the freak God-given talent wasn't always there.
3. Work Ethic - I do feel like this one moved up as soon as he came to CU. I don't believe this one was in the top 5 at JSU. He demanded it but he brought many guys who didn't always have it and it's hard to recruit at JSU. You only have so many guys willing to commit.
4. Roles - Some coaches want players who can do a lot. Coach Prime just wants you to do a role and be capable of it. This is where I have seen Coach Prime get steals like James Houston. He gets guys who fit roles or believes can fit a role and always talks to his coaches to see if we have someone who may be better here than there. They are always looking for roles. This is similar to how UGA recruits too. Bama prefers versatility. Gives him a higher range. Coach got in trouble for saying he wanted DT/DE from tough areas as they have an edge they want to make it out. But he wants QBs/OLs from two-parent households with a 3.2 GPA or higher.
5. Winning/Culture - This is one I've seen a big difference in at CU. He's constantly looking for guys who won at their previous stops. At JSU, I noticed that this one wasn't high on this list but it's critical at CU.
At JSU
1. NFL Potential
2. HS Ranking
3. Roles
4. Players who are seeking visibility
5. The player's Former Coaches' Opinions
I believe he doesn't value HS rankings as much as doing his homework on the player's character, and if they have 1-5 of the CU part. I believe Coach Prime hired a scout to watch HS and college portal tapes to find gems. 4 and 5 at JSU are locked into his process now.
Prime's strengths in my eyes: Connecting, player development, his previous resume as a player/personality which unlocks the nation as his recruiting map, his media team, and his coaching style which is like Synder even if he models himself after Bowden, ability to build chemistry fast like an NFL team, will to win, coaching hires and eye for coaching talent, and potential. He's still a young coach at this level at speeches and motivating.
Prime's weaknesses in my eyes: Too tough on players (if you lack thick skin, he's not the coach for you), short fuse (especially if you aren't favored by him), communication can lack empathy, oversells **** like an MLM pitchman. You do have to put a great spin as a recruiter but some of his stuff is over the top and at JSU, he was the biggest offender of this. He does have a lot to sell at CU., I think the cafe is your biggest selling point with Coach Mo and that S&C staff. They transformed those boys' bodies. Coach Mo did some amazing things at JSU with no nutrition at all but with CU, the nutrition is elite. That's where I see CU standing out. Most of the boys look forward to this. That's not the case even at most P5s.). Maybe he was too aggressive on offense without discipline at JSU if the team wasn't doing what he expected. Don't believe this will be the case at CU but you never know.
While this is more of a JSU weakness, he was far too favoring for his sons. While he might be still this, his sons are earning it at CU. Shedeur always earned it but Shilo... I think Prime told him, that if you don't earn it, you won't get it at CU. You see now Shilo has the best work ethic with Cokes. At JSU, that was NOT the case. I honestly felt he was disappointed with the scouts' feedback at JSU of him and he's working to prove everyone wrong and he's doing a good job of it. The thing is, if Prime didn't have these kids playing, he wouldn't be coaching. I truly believe that but this has now taken him to another level and one that's bigger than just him now.
Like Bill, I expect Prime to have a strong list one day:
He wants great coaches around him, not just his friends like Lincoln.
My rambling is finished.
