Other games weekend of 9-21/9-23

Here we go, most of the body bag games are over, no more playing around. The season gets under way in earnest. We should have a great day of football waiting for our Buffs to top off the weekend by beating the soggy dogs. This week is a long one with a lot of what should be good games.

Thursday starts with Temple at (21) South Florida. Temple is 2-1 but it’s just hard for me to take them seriously.

Friday we get a couple interesting games. Virginia flies across the country to Boise in a battle of 2-1 teams. Boise may be the best hope of the MWC for a major bowl berth, they won’t do it without winning this game against a P5 team.
The other Friday game looks better than it probably will be 3-0 (23) Utah visits 2-1 Arizona. Utah should walk over a mediocre Arizona team.

Saturday gives us two match ups of top 25 teams;

(16) TCU goes to (6) Oklahoma State. Okie Lite might just be a playoff contender, they are loaded. TCU is talented but not like the Cowboys. This game may knock TCU down a bunch in the rankings because it has the potential for blowout all over it.

The other game is the battle of the Bulldogs in SEC country. (17) Mississippi State visits (11) Georgia. Will this be a typical SEC battle or will we actually see some offense?

Some other games of interest involving top 25 teams.

(20) Florida at 3-0 Kentucky. This would normally be counted as a win for the Gators but with their suspensions they have struggled. Kentucky thinks they have a chance, and they might.

Syracuse at (25) LSU. LSU isn’t LSU but Syracuse may be the worst 2-1 P5 team in the nation. If LSU loses this one those fans are going to be very restless.

(4) Pedo State heads to the Midwest (midwaste) against 3-0 Iowa. It is never the wrong thing to cheer for a Pedo State loss. Iowa seems to be frequently underestimated and could very well score the upset.

In other PAC12 action the Cal Bears are surprisingly undefeated at 3-0. They won’t be after (5) USC is finished with them. (24) Florescent markers, I mean Oregon Ducks go to the land of the sun to lay a beating on a truly bad Stripper State (ASU) team. Rick Leach and his (18) Washington State Cougars my lay 100 on an 0-3 Nevada team that looks like a bad high school team. Might have something to do with having a high school coach. This is the classic no-hoper.

Teams we love to see lose

0-3 Baylor gets to watch the (3) Oklahoma Sooners light up their scoreboard. Will this be the biggest margin of losing in a record bad season for the criminal Bears.

In a battle of pathetic programs, each 1-2, the fuskers host Rutgers. Nebraska should actually win this one but how glorious would it be to see their fans 1-3 with consecutive home losses.

Notre Dame visits Michigan State. Spartans are 2-0 and well coached, could we see another big loss by the Irish.

In local action the Air Force who gave Michigan a better game than the 29-13 final score indicated welcome (22) San Diego State to Colorado Springs. In a game that could clear a spot for the Buffs in the top 25 I wouldn’t bet against the Falcons.

CSU has a bye after getting beat up by Bama. Wyoming at 1-2 tries to get their season back on track with Hawaii visiting Laramie.

Northern Colorado host Idaho State

In local small schools Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo remain the favorites for the league. Mesa who barely escaped against Mines gets Ft. Lewis while Pueblo goes to NM Highlands.

Looks like we've also got a Sunday game. East Carolina at UConn at 10am, ESPNU. Nice to get some extra CFB.

In another intriguing match up, the 3rd ranked land thieves travel to waco. Yeah, that disgusting university of ****bailer, fresh off their blazing 0-3 non-conference foray against a bunch of nobodies.

I can only remember rooting for the land thieves once, in a game against the bugeaters. Kinda of a lesser of 2 evils thing. But this week, I hope they're beating ****bailer 87-0 and they are playing the end of the bench, walk on water boys, and volunteers from the cheer squad in the 4th quarter in front of the remining 30 drunk ****bailer fans.

Thanks. I left out the teams we love to see lose section. Need to do an edit.

Weird week, I don’t really feel good about any game. I kinda like Georgia at -5.

I’ll be cheering for Iowa to upset Penn St and Purdue to upset Michigan. NC State could give FSU a fight, or at least keep it closer than the two TD spread. I think Oklahoma State rolls TCU.

south florida and temple tonight

utes and bear down tomorrow night, watch out for the upset

This part deserves special notice

Baylor has not only been cheating their way (and much worse) to a lot of wins but they have been rubbing a lot of noses in it in the process putting up a lot of points on people well after other teams would have put on the brakes.

I don't think a lot of their conference opponents are feel badly for them falling on hard times. Wouldn't be a surprise to see some schools like OU and OSU putting 70s on them, and I will enjoy every point of it.

**** bailer's probably lucky that Big Game Bob is gone, because he definitely wouldn't have called off the dogs.

What a stupid play by USF. They blocked the punt and, for some reason, the USF player decided to jump on it and Temple recovers.

USF is the 4th largest school in Florida.

At some point I wonder if they consider building their own stadium.

Raymond James stadium seems terrible for them.

Where do the quality wins come if those two teams lose this weekend? Mississippi State and....?

I can smell what you're cooking, but its not making me hungry.

'Bama plays MSU but not Georgia, so that outcome actually improves the Tide's SoS.

The Tide plays neither Florida or Kentucky in the regular season so I don't see impact from that game.

FSU (neutral), Auburn (road) and LSU (home) would be quality wins, assuming those teams perform as expected.

But mostly, I can't agree because "zero margin for error" implies that even if 'Bama wins the SEC they are left out of the playoffs. Sorry, but I'm struggling to see how that would play out regardless of who they play in the SECCG. Even if there is a positive margin for error (e.g. Tide drops a game @TAMU but wins the conference) they are in the playoffs.

Watching Temple play, it's clear that Matt Rhule did not build a foundation like I thought he had. Fundamentally, they aren't playing smart football. I like what that means for **** bailer.

They potentially play for Florida or Georgia in the SEC Championship, so those teams matter for Bama making the playoffs. If they both lose this weekend, it almost guarantees Bama is playing a two-loss team (at best) in the SEC Championship. Auburn and LSU are looking like 8-4 type squads, hardly resume enhancers.

There is no doubt an undefeated Bama team is a lock, but I do not understand at all why a one-loss Bama team would be a lock.

I was more speaking about the remainder of the schedule, but FSU is a quality win. But main point being, the SEC looks rough because even one loss makes things dicey.
Agreed. The SEC is weak. It won't matter though. I think reputation alone gets a 1 loss Bama team into the CFP.

because I don't believe there is any way that:
1. the Pac, ACC, B1G, and XII champs are all undefeated
2. that a one loss SEC champ loses the playoff spot to a one-loss champ from any any of those other conferences (as much as I would love to see that happen)

we are three weeks into the season with non-conf play almost done. 'Bama has #2 team SoS in the country and the SEC has the #2 conference SoS.
