Polls, rankings and bowl projections

Let's be honest here, we're not a top 5 team. We're a team that's been winning single score games. We're not demolishing good teams.
The conversation is based on a 13-0 CU team with wins over USC, UW, WSU, Utah, and then UW/UO/Stanford in the CCG, not a 5-0 CU team. If a 13-0 P5 team gets left out of the top 4, there will be so much backlash by everyone in the CFB world, they will be forced to expand to at least 6 the following season, and that includes if there are five 13-0 teams.

There should only be three undefeated teams at the end of the year, Bama/Georgia, Notre Dame and Clemson. I just don't see a Big-10 team making it through unscathed there is no way Colorado goes undefeated. So the last spot will come down to a on loss Big-10 team, one loss Big-12 team and maybe a one loss Washington.

Yeah I was going off the dumb hypothetical that we are 13-0, which will never happen.
It's pretty unlikely, but it could happen. A fairly similar Iowa was one championship game away from it a few years back. They were a top 40 team that went something like 7-0 in one possession games.

The QB situation with an ultra-talented frosh QB getting better every week?
He is definitely getting better and I think they have a great shot to go undefeated but would it surprise you if they have a down game with a couple turnovers from Lawrence and dropped a game late? Not out of the realm of possibilities.

F*ck ESPN and their bullsh*t. So even if we win out CU has a 0.0% chance of making the playoff??
They grouped us in with G5 schools (USF, UCF, Cincinnati) when looking at our chances of making it to the CFB Playoff.
Could they suck the SEC off any harder?

College Football continues to sh*t on itself if it continues to listen to ESPN and its SEC Bias. If we were fortunate enough to win out, then yes, it would take 4 other solid undefeated teams ahead of us to keep us out. I am already sick of these Advanced Stats crap and them trying to predict or even dictate the future. Really wish we did not have a drop off last year, I really do think we would have gotten a lot more respect coming off 2016. We do need to be consistent, so that when we have a solid team, they get the respect needed to not have a hack say we have 0.0% chance.

It would. The schedule after NC State is really soft.

the espn predictors think that an undefeated CU team would get left out of the top 4. i personally believe that is nearly impossible. sure it depends on who loses to who, but i do not believe that 2 sec teams with losses advance ahead of the unbeaten p12 champ.

anyhow, fun to speculate. but, it would be a huge surprise if we even make it through the next 2 games undefeated, let alone the rest of the way. i really like this version of the Buffs, however. they seem to have the intangibles to be a very special team.

Here's the link-SIAP. Let me say a couple things with it. FPI is a joke, and goofy computer indexes like it don't make up for watching teams play. There are also millions of these types of things out there nowadays-realtimerpi.com has us winning every remaining game but one.....at Washington. Two, the only way two SEC teams get in again are if the committee feels they don't have any other choice-a one loss SEC runner-up (let's say its Georgia) isn't getting in over Washington, Oklahoma, or Texas (if any of the three wins out) or us at 13-0 or 12-1 if we get there. Georgia's OOC (other than the rivalry game they coo about having to play every year) is a joke-Austin Peay (FCS opponent), UMass (glorified FCS opponent), and Middle Tennessee. Same thing with Alabama's-Arkansas State (Sun Belt team), ULaLa (Sun Belt team), The Citadel (FCS opponent), and Louisville at a neutral site (our win over Nebraska looks better).Three, she says its "highly unlikely" an undefeated Notre Dame misses out on the CFP-If Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and either us or West Virginia wins out, Notre Dame misses the playoff.

The Syracuse game was that game for them this season, if it was going to happen IMO.
If that had been on the road, they would have lost. Looking at their road games, I see FSU and BC. Given the history, I expect them to be up for FSU and wouldn't expect them to lay an egg there. BC on 11/10 facing that running game in the cold is the one I've got circled as the potential clunker.

Yep.

Win and this takes care of itself.
option 1: we lose a game, discussion irrelevant.
option 2: we win all the games, discussion irrelevant because there is no way an undefeated P12 champ isn't in the playoff.

Conclusion: Discussion remains silly. ESPN is stupid. (2d post in this thread already, arggh)

As JR pointed out above, one score wins kill us in advanced metrics (and they should).

As pointed out above, this isn't entirely true.

I think the only way that happens is if Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Ohio State are all undefeated too.
Yes, but then the argument has to fall back to how they treated the Big XII the first year of the playoff. They didn’t have a conference championship game and therefore I believe TCU was left out. So following that logic, if that scenario were to happen, you would expect CU to get in over Notre Dame but as others have mentioned, very small chance of 3 power 5 teams being undefeated much less 5 teams.

I can’t disagree with the SOS argument. But 0%? Lol a 12-0 Buffs team would be considered.

I can. I think the idea that Oregon has played a stronger schedule than us is a little far-fetched right now. Sure, they played Stanford and we haven't, but they had three cupcakes OOC.

You serious?

They played A&M. A&M is light years better than anybody on our schedule, save for maybe Washington.

Light Years? Not sure (no pun intended) I'd go that far. Washington State, Utah, and USC (I don't see a loss on their schedule after this weekend until the visit from Notre Dame) are all right up there with the Aggies.

It is more than just SOS when ranking teams. How you beat teams also matters.

This is not a dominant team. It's a good team that has a lot of talent spread around the roster, some superstars, and seems to be getting better. Seems like a good locker room and that they are pretty clutch.

It's like that year that BYU won the national championship. Just be good enough each week to get the win and be the only team left standing at the end. CU isn't the best team in college football, but it has a chance to be the most successful team this season.
